Surprised and amazed

I've never wrote a review before, but this film made me wanna make one. I didn't even knew this film was Russian, but after watching this film, I clapped my hands and I felt they've done a great job with it.

The characters is developed well, making you wanna root for them, and the storyline is good but I wished they would put more effort in the showing the 'emotions/feelings' of the characters. (The part where it supposed to make me sad/mad. .but it's not enough) There's also some magic moments where you wouldn't have thought would happen..And that's what made this film interesting to watch till the end.

Just like a Korean war movie with a Russian twist.

a decent russian production

Its a 2 nd world war film,or the great war as some says. its just not what i expected though. title in english where bomber, well then i imagined more a arial warfare battle kinda movie , but its more a pow camp movie, mixed in with decieft,cowardness and crimes of war. its a well used reciept when making war movies, but some of the story were really revealing lots of war history to me as white vs reds ,and ukrains vs russians and medieval hate set on fire with the help of and due to the german invasion of soviet territory in 1941. its clear that its near the end of the war, the fatigue are visible among germans and soviets. the crucial goal of the plot is to damage german v2 rocket test sites in the baltic white russian state areas.

its also a love story here,though irrelevant i get chivers of casablancan feeling when viewing the desperation in the relationship.

i dont recognize any of the cast, not used to watch russian film,other than that its over the average, the efforts made in icy water, cold air and muddy pitches are quite impressing. the technical production are good,though the editor seems a bit abrupt on the theme switches and stops the romantic sessions and its music very brutal and without emotions. for god sake ,give the audience a glimpse of hope, it lasts for 3 hours. there are some resemblance to pearl harbour in the sense of hopelessness,but thats quite irrelevant and only my opinion.

i recommend a watch as it shows a piece of russian war history.

some may dislike Russian subtitles and the fact its 3 hours long.. I didn't!

I'm also extremely surprised to see such a low rating on this film; I thought it was fantastic. I may not have watched it if I had seen its IMDb rating before hand, especially since I'm not usually a fan of long-winded films. Whilst maybe It was merely a 9/10 in my eyes, I've given it a deserving 10/10 to boost its ranking.

Set during world war 2, this action packed, 3 hour long, Russian war-time love story was originally meant to be a high budget Russian TV series. For those of you like me who struggle watching long films, I suggest splitting the film in two or three parts of thoroughly enjoyable viewing.

p.s If you're unsure, I suggest you ignore rating!

love and war

It's such a big surprise to me to see the number of people vote, and their marks about this film. Then, i realize that maybe it's a Russian film - which is not so popular in the Western. And it's about the WW2 and the Soviet, so people expect to see cruel stuffs of the Soviet gor, not something else. I can smell it 'cause im from a socialist country. To be frank, this film is not a propaganda one. An it should be received more attention from the West. It's based on a novel, so there's nothing to complain about the story line. The film contains many beautiful image, and the music is perfect. The only thing that i don't like is that the scenes change so quickly. If you don't mind watching a 3-hour long film, you should spend your time on this one. I can guarantee that you wont regret it.

SPOILER ALERT: You've been warned.

Like others who've posted before me, I loved this series. I watched this as a TV series on Hulu. I was hooked from the first episode forward. The acting and writing are first rate. The subtitles follow the action - sometimes you find the subtitles are either wrong or not timed properly. This was not the case with the Hulu TV version. I do have to say when the dialog was in German, there was a Russian language translator speaking over the German language (you can hear both German and Russian) with English subtitles on the bottom. Nevertheless, it was not too distracting and did not take anything away from the film.

This is a story about a WW2 (aka The Great Patriotic War in Russia) pilot who becomes engaged and separated from his fiancé only to find he is ordered to drop a "package" to the Russian underground in the occupied parts of the Soviet Union. There is plenty of suspense and drama mixed in with a love story that moves at a nice pace. I was never bored or thinking this series is dragging.

Like others, I was completely surprised at the low rating when I looked it up on IMDb. It is far better than the surprising lower ratings. If there is something negative I'd say the special effects are not quite (but close) to some of the better special effects in either an English or American film. But it does not take anything away from the story.

This was one of the greatest movies I have ever watched. Absolutely amazing. It is definitely longer than your average eat-popcorn-drink- soda-sleep-on-the-couch movie. But it has everything you might expect from a movie so long: you have the story of a Soviet pilot during WW2 which finds himself in enemy's territory. Then, you have the guerrilla wars between the Nazis and the Soviets. Also, the friendships formed during war, the life of civilians during these times and of course, the best of them all, the main love story which is absolutely brilliant. Recommended for anyone who has some spare hours and wishes to see a masterpiece!

Very Interesting and Exciting Too

I just have three things to say:

It's available on Hulu for free in the USA! It was a pleasure (to have more Russian language material) to watch and listen and try not to look at the subtitles too often. (Of course I failed - I needed to look at the subtitles most of the time.

The story is very interesting and exciting too. If you are only vaguely aware of Hitler's betrayal of the USSR and not aware of the ensuing conflict within the auspices of WWII that it caused, it will be even more interesting as you see some of the aspects of the conflict, as well as life in the Soviet Army.

I loved for the reasons above. Oh by the way... I repeat: It's on Hulu in the USA for free!

If you can get your hands on this series with English subtitles and you love WWII romance stories you have to watch this! I love this mini series so much!!!
