Let's See if the Series Improves
claudio_carvalho12 December 2013
Alaric is submitted to a tomography and exams by Dr. Fells and he gives his ring back to Elena. Damon comes to the hospital to bring Alaric back home and he has an argument with Elena about Stephan. Caroline helps Bonnie to adapt Abby to her new life as a vampire. Mystic Falls is restoring the Wickery Bridge and Damon goes to the ceremony with Alaric and Meredith. They see Rebekah snooping around and Damon meets the vampire Sage that has come to the town seeking out her lover Finn. Abby attacks Jamie and decides to leave her home. Damon and Sage plot a scheme to read the mind of Rebekah and Sage finds that a white oak wood may kill the originals. Damon discovers that the original Wickery Bridge was made of this wood and he tells Sage. Meanwhile Alaric's alter ego stabs Meredith trying to kill her.

"Break on Through" is a good episode of "The Vampire Diaries" after many tedious shows. Let's see if the series improves since this time the unbearable Elena has had a minor participation. My vote is eight.

Claire Holt, rising power, force to be reckoned with
Can't help but notice that our Brazilian friend still harpers on about "the unbearable Elena" who has only "minor participation" in this episode. Which is kinda misleading, as I don't see Elena having "minor participation" in this episode, maybe our friend went for a drink of water, I don't know. Good performances by Nina, Candice and Claire, let's not forget newcomer Cassidy - Ian is, of course, Ian, in the plum part with the best dialogue. And then there's Torrey. As memorable here as in PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. You will notice that I refrain from mentioning that... well, that actor I saw in CLOUD 9 where he gave a performance as a kinda thick bloke... Maybe that's why I just can't take him seriously. Anyway, somebody else might well be complaining about "the unbearable Elena" but it doesn't make sense, if you're that picky and choosy, you should have picked up on P.W. first. However, in all fairness, have to point out here, no complaints about him in this episode.

Claire Holt deserves special mention, yeah, the mermaid from H2O JUST ADD WATER has slightly matured and become "a most dangerous lady" carrying attitude in spades.

Something's been confusing me. Look, I watch loads of shows, however much THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is a favorite, all these plot lines, gee, people, I can't keep up with them all, BUT... last I remember, Elena was adopted, yet in previous episode, tells Alaric with a sigh "great genes, huh" referring to dangerously disturbed Samantha Gilbert, who is NOT related to her by blood or genes... okay, that was last time, but this time, Elena continues to act like she is related by blood to Samantha...?

All in all, plenty to see. I do admit that every time I check in here to glance at reviews, I try to figure out "that other guy". Anyway, I'm pretty sure our Brazilian friend swam over to THE ORIGINALS, which I understand is far from the high school romance thing.

Kinda creepy and sorta meh

Not much to say about a rather unmemorable episode. And to correct another reviewer - Elena IS descended from Sarah Gilbert. People keep forgetting that her birth father is John GILBERT.

Doesn't make much sense
dmslbraune21 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Alaric is actually insane? Seems kind of random cause he killed noone before. Like Elena for example since she's a Gilbert.

They take of his ring and for some reason seem to think this solves the problem and don't worry about their lifes. At the same time they do think he still needs help and ask Bonnie. When Elena and Stefan find out that he's definitely still dangerous they do not call and warn so that the episode is more thrilling.

They also find out that Alaric and Jeremy work together but instead of curing his brother Elena just calls him and asks whether he talked with Alaric recently. But she should know that he couldn't remember it when they talked or anything he does under the control of the ring.

Caroline tries to help Abby but since she somehow managed to be a vampire for days without any problems, maybe she doesn't need any. I mean compare that to Carolines first days as a vampire. Than she suddenly looses control but doesn't want help and runs away like she is used to. I really hoped she learned from the past.

Sage Sets Damon Up
vivianla25 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rebekah looks beautiful at the construction of Wickery Bridge. Damon and Sage make a plan of getting into Rebekah's mind. Damon has sex with Rebekah and then Sage entered into her mind when she is asleep. Damon and Sage get into the shower together where Damon learns what Sage saw as they kiss. Wickery Bridge is made of the same white oak tree that can kill Originals. Sage is still in love with Finn who was the one who didn't mind dying. They burn the bridge but Damon has the original sign of the bridge.

Alaric has gone crazy because of the consequences from the ring. He tries to kill Meredith.
