Birthday, Funeral, Farewell and Murder
claudio_carvalho19 November 2013
Bonnie tries to open the coffin and overhears something, but Damon and Stephan arrive in the house and Damon kills the hybrid. Elena and Bonnie are preparing a birthday party for Caroline at school and Jeremy says goodbye for them. Tyler meets Caroline to tell that he would never hurt her since he loves her, but Klaus controls him. Stephan threatens Klaus and asks him to send his hybrids out of Mystic Falls and beheads one hybrid in front of Klaus to prove that he is not kidding. Klaus summons Tyler and compels him to bite Caroline, but Tyler reacts telling that he will not hurt Caroline. When Caroline arrives home, Elena, Bonnie and Matt are waiting for her; however they go to a tomb to celebrate her funeral instead. Out of the blue, Tyler appears and bites Caroline on the neck. Damon and Alaric go to a counsel meeting to raise fund to rebuild a bridge and Damon meets Klaus that tells that Stephan must stop beheading his hybrids. Meanwhile Alaric flirts with Dr. Meredith Fell and protects her against her ex-boyfriend and coroner Dr. Brian Walters. Damon unsuccessfully tries to stop Stephan from killing hybrids. Stephan abducts Elena, calls Klaus, gives her blood to her and promises to kill her, driving his car in high-speed. Klaus agrees to send the hybrids away. Klaus goes to Caroline's home and gives his blood to Caroline and saves her. Damon brings Elena home and on the next morning Jeremy travels to Denver. Alaric meets Dr. Fell while Sheriff Forbes finds Brian murdered.

"Our Town" is a reasonable episode of "The Vampire Diaries" where nothing special happens. Stephan now is the bad vampire switching behavior with Damon. Nina Dobrev the keeps the same wooden face, as usual. Alaric apparently finds another troublemaker to date. How is Klaus feeding? Is he killing locals? How Elena called Damon to take her from the bridge since she did not have her cell phone? My vote is seven.

Its okay overall but still not the best I assure you, it had some good moments but other than that not much to be missed really, not the worst hour of TV but not TV gold either

and if I have to see one more heart being ripped out again...
RavenGlamDVDCollector6 April 2019
Back in Season One, this was the smartest show about. Oh, I could overlook the flaw with the casting of Paul didn't they take a hint from seeing him in CLOUD 9 Wesley, but everything else (more or less) was just exceptional. I ranked it as one of my all-time favorite shows, movirs included. The euphoria of that was already gone by the start of the Second Season. But let me just say, of course I'm not knocking it I never will. It's just, when something's been oh-so-close to perfection and then it comes tumbling down... Even if it's still better than most others, there is still that feeling...

The violence were at first incidental, it was definitely for the sake of the story. With the decapitation here, I thought about that episode "Rose" where her partner got brutally slain, it was of course hideous but it was suitably well filmed. Here I got the impression, "all right then, we created ourselves a rep, our gore fans want more, let's give 'em a gratuitous bloody scene..."

And if I have to see one more heart being ripped out... One more bloody hand holding a curiously dripping but not spurting heart... Aw, come on, that was corny from the start, and is being ridden hackneyed, feels like it happens in every episode, well, doesn't it... and does that stuff raise the ratings?

The winners: Nina Dobrev (yeah, take that haters, take it and sputter) and Candice Accola. Ian Somerhalder is still, well, I could never dis him, he's just not as striking as he used to be. But the one who plays the plum part, I'm sorry, it really bugs me while watching, Paul is not the one for the part. He comes across as just like his character in CLOUD 9, thicker than two very short planks, and Stefan is not supposed to be that.

But with everything transpiring in this episode, a thrilling car racing to bridge scene and, well, so much else, no spoilers from me, I cannot do anything else but award a high score because even if the flaws are more prevalent than ever, it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Caroline's Birthday/Funeral
vivianla1 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Elena does boxing to blow off the feelings from Damon's kiss last night. Damon is chipper as he showers and then wraps a towel.

Bonnie comes walking in looking gorgeous to Elena decorating Caroline's locker for her birthday. Tyler gifts Caroline a charm bracelet.

Matt, Bonnie and Elena go to the cemetery to celebrate Caroline's birthday/funeral. Tyler shows up and while they make out he accidentally bites Caroline due to his siring. Caroline freaks out and tells him to leave.

Stefan kidnaps Elena and drives her to Wickery Bridge. He feeds her his blood while on the phone with Klaus to convince him to get his hybrids out of here. Stefan leaves Elena at the bridge and drives away.

Klaus shows up at Caroline's door to give her his blood.

Damon walks Elena up to her doorstep. She thanks him for picking her up from the bridge. She tells him he cannot kiss her again as it is not right. Damon replies it is but just not right now.

Another boring one :(
AMButterfly27 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I really loved TVD from the third of the first season all through the second but this third one so far is a great disappointment. Nina used to be really good in the crying scenes but the part where she was with Stefan in the car and right after was straight annoying. I kinda like how Paul portrays a bad guy but I hate how Stefan is now the old Damon and vice versa. It doesn't make the story any more interesting, on the contrary.

It was good to see Bonnie telling Elena how bad it was for her to take away Jeremy's free will in the last episode - unfortunately she took it all back at the end of this episode, I was disappointed.

I wish Damon would stop obsessing about Elena and got himself a proper girlfriend but it's probably not gonna happen. It's just sad to see him this pathetic, truth to be told.

I liked the gentle side of Klaus, he really seems genuinely lonely - although I doubt his intentions are honourable.

I worry about Alaric, he seems to choose bad women to hang out with (with good old Jenna being the exception) Dr. Fell seems to be really bad news.

The show has slowed down significantly after the last season's admirable tempo, I hope it'll pick up soon!
