Good Enough
PennyReviews14 June 2022
Korean Drama "Monstrous" has the right vibes and an interesting concept, however, it was too rushed.

The drama has nice cinematography, dark and close to a gothic horror mood. The main story is also compelling, being well entangled with the characters' own backgrounds.

However, the drama was too short for the story. So, more often than not, it was rushed, with a rushed ending and fast paced presentation of the characters' stories.

The performances, on the other hand, were all enjoyable.

So, overall, five out of ten.

A luckily short 6 episode bad drama
mailtaskservice19 May 2022
The start is nonsense story. Nobody find an ancient stautue and simply done by any doggy or cat workers, especially ordered by governor. This is a real joke, badly made by writer, director and producer.

The whole 5 episodes were so os, nothing really nice, with lots of nonsense illogical stories. The write and director likes to create many coincidences to the stories which are too much and not radical.

The last sixth episode is a disaster with unacceptable major unrealistic stories.

The idea is so so and they made it a disaster drama. Luckily its short and did not waste my time too much.

Overall, I can give max 5.5/10 because there are too many better dramas and in 2022, this is considered a lousily made drama. I watched this because someone reviewed as zombie drama but this is a spirit possess drama with no horror content (NOT ZOMBIE related!)

Lost of creativity?

Do korean movie these days lost of creativity in making this genre of movie?

This movie has exactly the same plot and concept as "dark hole"

All aspects in these 2 movie are exactly the same..

These movie are apocalyptic kind of movie, both apocalypse are due to strange things, both plot happens in rural area, both has the same disease as people become wild and seeing things which not exist, both has woman detective character as the main protagonist, there are dumb police officer character, there are bullies character...

All are the same..

Why not think another concept??

Bad Buddha
Pairic6 March 2024
Monstrous: South Korean series, a cursed Buddha statue is dug up to be put on display. Even as it is being moved to it's new site it affects other drivers who look into the statues eyes. Mayhem ensues with the curse driving people to crazed even zombiesque violence. A black rain falls increasing the numbers of those infected. A few soap like stories are involved in the narrative, the most interesting being a troubled couple who are archaeologists and paranormal event investigators, A siege is involved with crowds turning against anyone they suspect of being infected. The subject of bullying also crops up, something which is endemic to SK Horror/Serial Killer/Revenge films ans series'. In this case it shows how a sociopathic bully takes advantage of the break down in public order to mrtder people. Pretty violent and gory, hatchets, knives. Vehicle and chainsaws are put to deadly use. Directed by Jang Kun-jae, Written by Yeon Sang-ho & Ryoo Yong-jae. Six episodes on Sky sci fi. 7/10.

Time waste movie
barnwal-usa17 March 2024
Movie tried to depict lord Buddha negatively.. Probably inspired by some rice bag convert to Christianity who wanted to show lord Buddha in negative light. That's how Christianity operates.. The story itself is ridiculous, acting is dull and doesn't make any sense. Randomly making stories without notification or logic isn't a good watch.

However, the show's decision to depict a Buddhist statue as a vessel for malevolence raises significant concerns regarding cultural respect and sensitivity. This choice not only oversimplifies but potentially misrepresents the profound and respectful place Buddhist symbols hold in many people's lives. The premise, while intriguing, leans heavily into clichés and sensationalism at the expense of depth and nuance. The portrayal of religious artifacts as containers of evil is a trope that has been explored in various forms of media, but it requires a delicate balance to avoid cultural insensitivity. Unfortunately, this misses the mark, offering a narrative that can be perceived as disrespectful to those who hold these symbols dear.
