Masters of the Air is the newest tribute to World War II veterans from Spielberg and Hanks. All of their projects on the subject, including Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and The Pacific, concentrate on different aspects of the Great War and make for good viewing companion pieces. As the new series follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany, the review from our own Alex Maidy spoke highly of the show. He stated, “It is unlikely that any series will equal the acclaim that Band of Brothers achieved. Still, the blend of feature film directors and a cast of actors more than up to the task, Masters of the Air is a powerful companion to that HBO series and ranks slightly higher than The Pacific.

Initial slate includes The Scrawl and The Mean Tide.
Film and television executives and producers Erin Eggers, Chase Hudson (pictured top) and Matthew Porter announced their full-service feature and television development and production company on Tuesday.
La-based Penchant Entertainment has a mandate to produce two to three features per year for multiple platforms and two to four scripted TV projects for network and non-traditional outlets.
Penchant’s first scripted project is The Scrawl, written by Oscar-nominated writer of The Arrival Eric Heisserer and WGA award-winner Zach Craley (Heroes Reborn).
The Scrawl is a one-hour drama that explores what happens when collective negativity gives birth to an actual monster. Penchant developed the supernatural thriller and serve as executive producers along with Cj Entertainment, whose South Korean film Killer Toon inspired the series.
The feature slate will kick off with The Mean Tide, a dramatic thriller written by Liska Ostojic and Justin Partridge from a screenplay by Mark DeGaetani...

Stars: Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones, Randy Couture, Gianni Capaldi, Carly Pope, William McNamara | Written by Agustin | Directed by Giorgio Serafini
At the rate Dolph Lundgren is pumping out direct to market action movies, you get the feeling that a quality script is not his highest priority – after all many of his recent solo efforts have been severely lacking in both story and action, with only Stash House coming anywhere close to being a top-notch action flick. Thankfully Lundgren’s ratio of good to bad movies seems to be in his favour this time out and Hard Rush hits plenty of action-movie targets, even if it does succumb to a lot of genre cliches and stereotypes.
Lundgren stars as DEA Agent Maxwell who is closing in on an international cocaine smuggling operation run out of L.A. by criminal mastermind Vincent Camastra (Jones). When Maxwell sends his lover and fellow DEA agent,...

The blokes who flex their muscles in Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts events are mostly a larger-than-life blend of showmanship and brawn – which explains why they’re increasingly being snapped up by Hollywood. With more and more Mma fighters moving into the movies, I thought I’d take a look at some of the biggest names to have made the crossover.
Tony Schiena
Winner of numerous Mma trophies around the globe, Schiena flexed his acting chops in Locked Down as a framed cop who winds up in jail and is forced into cage fighting by none other than Brit hardman turned thesp Vinnie Jones. Schiena retired from sport after breaking both his ankles (ouch!) but has since found his feet on the big screen working with everyone from Pacino to Van Damme.

The transition from athlete to actor is a tricky one. Former Mma champion Gina Carano has handled it fairly well. While she’s certainly not going to blow your mind with her acting aplomb, so far she’s picked roles that fit her particular skill set, or at least worked with people who know the best way to use her. She has a definite screen presence, and handles her business in action scenes. Her fights in “Haywire” were great, and she has a realness that makes you actually believe that she could take down. And unlike some of her predecessors (think fellow Mma fighter Randy Couture—if you don’t believe me, watch “Hijacked”), her acting isn’t all that bad. Carano is getting some experienced company in her next film, the action thriller “In the Blood”. Danny Trejo (“Machete”) and Stephen Lang (“Avatar”) are in talks to join production.

Secret agent Paul Ross (Randy Couture) and his team are tracking a terrorist group “The Tribe.” When Ross' team is wiped out in a raid gone wrong, he inadvertently discovers a lead back to a luxury jet flight and talks his way on-board. Coincidentally, his former fiance Olivia (Tiffany Dupont) is also on-board, and when the plane is hijacked, Ross has to protect Olivia and the rest of the passengers and take the plane back from the terrorists. Strangely enough, I was excited about Hijacked. My expectations were very low, and the back cover description was pure cheesy goodness packed full of terrible airplane puns. “The 'fasten seatbelt signs are off...and one very pissed-off agent is now free to move about the cabin.” Who doesn't want to watch that? Imagine my surprise that Hijacked is really, really boring.

Randy Couture, Dominic Purcell and Vinnie Jones star in the plane thriller Hijacked, directed by Brandon Nutt. Hijacked is your basic straight-to-dvd B action movie with a cast full of stars that never really had their moment to shine. The film also comes with a plot that was probably scribbled down on a napkin some time ago in the 90s and CGI blood that was most likely rendered in Microsoft Paint. Still, underneath all of the cheap production values there lies a movie that is almost watchable, because of its cheesy dialogue, action and story.
Special Agent Paul Ross (Randy Couture) is tracking down a crime lord that leads him to the same plane in which his fiancé is boarding. He boards the plane and shortly after realizes the plane is equipped with a bomb and terrorists, which makes the night a little more frustrating than he had hoped for.

Ufc legend Randy Couture and actor Dominic Purcell star in this latest straight-to-home video airplane actioner Hijacked, directed by Brandon Nutt. The film comes to Blu-Ray and DVD on July 31st, 2012.
We previously posted a trailer and a clip from the film and now we have two more clips featuring our action stars flexing their acting chops, while taking out a few baddies in the process.
I’m not usually one for this grade of film, but occasionally something like Hijacked can provide you with 2 hours of mindless entertainment and nonstop laughter. The acting looks cheesy and over-the-top, while the violence looks painfully rendered in CGI and not all that creative. I’m willing to give this one a shot, but only because Hijacked could become something of an underground classic.
Clip one is titled Cargo Hold and it briefly shows Couture and Purcell as they tussle with a possible rogue agent.

Stars: Randy Couture, Vinnie Jones, Craig Fairbrass, Dominic Purcell, Gina Philips, Tiffany Dupont | Written by Brandon Nutt, Declan O’Brien, Scoop Wasserstein | Directed by Brandon Nutt
The second aeroplane-set film I’ve watched in as many days, Hijacked is, for wont of a better explanation, a quasi-remake of Executive Decision with Vinnie Jones in the Steven Seagal role and Mma star and member of The Expendables, Randy Couture, in the Kurt Russell role. See where this is going?
Tough Us government agent Paul Ross is at the forefront of an international operation to smash a global terrorist organisation and crime syndicate known only as The Tribe, a group notorious for obtaining its funds from the drug trade and illegal arms dealing. When a tip-off as to the whereabouts of the Tribe’s leader turns out to be a set-up that lands Ross in the middle of a bloody firefight...

Anchor Bay’s upcoming Blu-Ray release of Hijacked is just around the corner (July 31st to be exact) and today we have for you the official trailer, plus a brand new clip!
The trailer kicks things off in spectacular fashion, with the daring plot introduced to our comatose characters, played so gracefully by Randy Couture, Vinnie Jones and Dominic Purcell.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie with such an absorbent amount of talent muster out such a smelly trailer. I’m not sure if it was the sets that look cutout from a giant piece of cardboard or the mentioning of Holt McCallany from Fight Club, but something just doesn’t sit right.

Oh look, Vinnie Jones is like totally not playing a bad guy in “Hijacked”! Then again, this is Vinnie Jones, so he might end up being a bad guy posing as a good guy. You never know with him. Ol Vinnie has a habit of tricking you like that onscreen. Anyways, check out a clip from “Hijacked”, which stars Randy Couture of Ufc Fighting Championships fame, who can also next be seen in “The Expendables 2″. Special Agent Ross’ (Couture) plans to reconcile with his ex-fiancée are ruined when she boards a private jet that is targeted by hijackers working for the same crime lord that he is chasing. With no time to inform his team, Ross wriggles his way aboard the aircraft and risks it all to save the love of his life. If you needed someone to save you from a hijacked airplane, I guess former Ufc camp Randy Couture and “Prison Break’s” Dominic Purcell ain’t such a bad option. The duo take on “Lights Out’s” Holt McCallany in the new “Die Hard on a Plane” flick “Hijacked”. (Curious that Holt McCallany is introduced as a castmember of “Fight Club”, a film from 13 years ago where his character didn’t even have a name, and not from “Lights Out”, a TV series from less than a year ago where he was the star.) Anyways, it’s “Die Hard in an Airplane on Speed”. Or some such. Looks mildly diverting, I suppose. Randy Couture is taking time off being expendable to become a little not expendable in a new actioner called “Hijacked” for director Brandon Nutt (“The Last Resort”). The film promises to be along the lines of past plane-themed actioners like “Delta Force” and “Executive Decision”, minus Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal dying in Act One and pissing off all the Seagal fans who had no idea that was going to happen heading into the movie. But back to “Hijacked”. No trailer yet, but you can check out the DVD/Blu-ray box art and some stills from the movie below. British actor Craig Fairbrass' elderly mother has been found "safe and well" after she went missing earlier this week (beg10Oct11).
The Cliffhanger star abandoned filming his new movie Hijacked with Vinnie Jones in Singapore to jet back to his native England following the news his mum Maureen, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, had disappeared.
Fairbrass made an appeal to fans to help find his beloved mother, saying, "I am frightened to death. She has no clue who she is, where she is or even what her name is. It is so sad."
The 72 year old was discovered on Saturday sheltering in a shed near her home in Kent, south-east England.
She was found cold and dehydrated "but essentially safe and well", reports Britain's Sunday Mirror.

The Dark One has found his right-hand man.
Dominic Purcell has been recruited for the war in Heaven (and below, and beyond) as he joins the cast of director Alex Proyas' "Paradise Lost," according to Heat Vision.
The hulking actor, probably best known for his role as Lincoln Burrows on "Prison Break," will be playing the role of Jerahmeel, an angel who falls in with Lucifer (Bradley Cooper) and ultimately becomes the Fallen One's trusted lieutenant and confidante as the renamed Moloch.
Can we just say "perfect casting?"
Purcell joins an ever-growing cast that includes Casey Affleck (Gabriel), Djimon Hounsou (Abdiel), Benjamin Walker (Michael) and Callan McAuliffe (Uriel). Diego Boneta and Camilla Belle are currently the front-runners to play first-ever humans and Garden of Eden outcasts, Adam and Eve, and word hath it that Proyas' "Dark City" star, Rufus Sewell, will be playing a role as well.
