The ghost could have been more subtle
yoginauty8 July 2023
The ghosts actions were too much in public... it was very lame... towards the end ghost was doing things right in front of so many people.. that kinda killed the whole fun of it.. they cud have made ghosts actions a bit subtle. He was too obvious. Overall it was okay.. very predictable.. also that Supriya backstory was not required. It was useless.

Better than most of Indian horror movies but miles away from Tumbbad
pal-gandharv11 July 2023
With the young crew members, school background, and good actors like Ishwaq and Rashika, you ought to believe that this is gonna be one hell of a story and you're gonna be thrilled even more when you get to know that it involves some supernatural powers with horrifying small stories. The entire web-series circles around a peculiar friendship involving a homosexual boy and a meritorious student. With the predictable yet attractive twists and turns, this series somehow keeps you spellbound with good acting from Shrenik, Ishwaq and Rashika. Rest all young actors from the 2007 batch acted overly. Anyway, at the end you'll feel betrayed when the ghost was worse than Ramsay's and the story wasn't upto the standard Tumbbad has set but it still magnets you for a bold attempt in this unexplored genre for Bollywood.

Predictable story but has some terrific moments
Biswas_8 July 2023
The story of Adhura and even some mysteries can be predicted by just seeing the disclaimer itself. And even if the disclaimer doesn't give you a hint, the first two episodes will easily.

It all then boils down to how and who because you know what happened and why happening. So this is a horror suspense thriller where an angry spirit takes over a little boy Vedant and all we need to know is his intentions, which , for me atleast was pretty clear from just reading the disclaimer of the 1st episode. Everything dates back to 15 years ago (set presently in 2022) when something horrifying happened on the last day of the batch of 2007 students, which include Ishwak Singh and Zoa morani . This batch comes for a reunion during Vedant's time and start experiencing terror as Ishwak looks for clues to search for his missing best friend since the last day of their school.

Did I give away a bit too much despite not revealing much? Yes and no. Yes, because the last lines of my last paragraph might give you a hint about the spirit and his intentions and even what happened to him. And No, because the whodunit part was done pretty well imo.

So the main topics covered in this series is bullying and friendship. I think the friendship part is decently fleshed out and further heightened in the last episode. The bullying part is also decently fleshed out.

Since by the 2nd or 3rd episode the story and even what happened on the last day of 2007 batch becomes pretty clear, it becomes a bit of a stretch to actually reach the final episode which i felt was the best of the lot where we get to know what really happened and also what i liked was it presented some startling surprises which the series managed to hide till the end very well. Kudos there.

The last day of 2007 shown in the final episode is pretty flawed and cringy, especially the part 2 of the last day shown which was kept a secret. Let's me try explaining without giving away much. In part 2 of the Last Day, the injured bleeding victim suddenly gets up and starts walking like a fit horse like nothing happened and even starts arguing with one person (will not reveal this as this is the surprise part). I cringed at this point like how dude?? You are injured!!

Many past events are just shown through random sequences and this broke the flow often.

The horror absolutely does not work despite it being everywhere in the series. India needs to work more in this area.

One character that springs a huge surprise and is a big mystery is Rasika Duggal aka Supriya. As the series progresses, you realise she is a mysterious women and even the 7th episode makes her character further mysterious and wanting to know more about her.

The batchmates of 2007 under the scanner have pretty much caricaturish characters with not much fleshed out of them. Zoa morani is the worst of them, carrying an expressionless stern face throughout. The little boy Vedant does a good job though and so does the spirit's real character.

Overall, a okayish one time watch . Some mysteries are well kept but overall story should have been more well narrated .

One time watch
ft-1223225 July 2023
Kind of boring. Story is just okay okay. Seriously such a boring concept. Ghost can be made more horrifying. It is a haunted web series but I did not feel horror at all. You can easily guess what the story is after one to two episodes. It's a very predictable concept. Everyone's acting has also been good, but I could not understand many things in it. There is a lot of stupidity i feel in this webseries too. If you're bored or something and you've nothing to watch then may be you can watch it for once. Otherwise just forget it. And I have no words for the last episode. Don't know what nonsense is going on in it.

A mediocre horror series
kainatrc20 July 2023
What the trailer shows is a complete horror series that can chill your spine but when you watch the series, you will find it a more suspence series than a horror one. A suspence series with a revenge story. Something that happened in the past has direct relations with the present day situation. One thing what I liked best is"justice in present time for something bad that ha in the past ."No matter whatever wrong happens in the past or present there must be justice and the people behind the wrong deeds must be punished. This series shows how each and everyone who did mistakes were punished for their wrong deeds. This series also makes you believe that it may take time but one who does wrong is eventually punished. A horror story which starts in a school, ends in the school with too much mystery and suspence. Its worth watching and is a good time pass.

Less HORROR more SUSPENSE
vvms-087087 July 2023
The story is decent and new. Characterisation is good Cinematography is excellent.

May be based on societal issues Suspense and tension will continue till the end Great screenplay.

Fresh and innovative approaches to horror storytelling.

Unique and unexpected twists, inventive scares(no jump scares) , and creative use of cinematography and sound design Telugu dub at some point is annoying.

Sound design is Great cast Unable to maintain the horror till end Feels Kind of zombieish Expecting season 2 will do more.

Visual effects are good.

Characters are believable.

We feel fear only for some scenes.

Prime Video's latest horror mystery is a bland & tedious addition despite commendable Ishwak Singh and Rasika Duggal.
ritesh6577 July 2023
Prime Video's latest horror mystery is a bland & tedious addition despite commendable Ishwak Singh and Rasika Duggal.

My Rating : 60/100

Adhura had the potential to become an engrossing horror mystery. The spooky atmospheric tension of a boarding school in the woods, a looming mystery and school reunion after 15 years, all had the making of a brilliant indian show but the generic and tedious writing and forced addition of jumpscares makes it an underwhelming experience. The show is stretched to an excruciating level where you don't even care about the mystery anymore. It has a lot of spooky moments and sometimes its just exhausting through the 7 long episodes. The cinematography and color grading is excellent and the score is fantastic and intriguing as well. Ishwak Singh is such a brilliant actor, the most believable actor in the entire show. But its the unconvincing performances and forced horror which tests your patience. You can definitely try this one for some good spooky moments.

The story had a decent amount of mystery which was well built initially but certainly fails to keep my attention for long. The casting seemed off and the performanaces left me baffling. Baring Rasika Duggal and Ishwak Singh's fantastic layered perfomance and Shrenik Arora's promising and innocent effort, the entire cast has a done a poor job. The subplots aren't explored vividly in the entire show which leaves many questions unanswered. The show is stretched, predictable for the most of its runtime and thankfully finishes its storyline in single season.

Overall, a passable horror mystery for those who are horror fanatics and watch shows ocassionaly, but is a painfully boring show for those to consume a lot of content of this genre.

Amazing suspense!
carolinegauribosco7 July 2023
I'm a huge fan of suspense but unfortunately nothing much succeeds at surprising me...that was until I watched Adhura today and it kept me guessing mostly wrong theories.

I especially loved the boarding school setting, and the Ooty factor was the best touch to add to the mystery. Rasika Dugal and Rahul Dev with their classic amazing performances weren't a surprise.

Shrenik Arora (as Vedant) and Rijul Ray (as Dev) are new to my personal list of favourite actors. Shremnik is easily one of the best child actors I have come across in India and did a phenomenal job being both cute and terrifying! Rijul Ray comes in with his incredible theatre experience, absolutely believable as the elite have-it-all, with a touch of "I'm actually sweet, like me" and love him we did! Waiting to see more of Rijul, he certainly has our hearts!

I admire the attempt!
SoumikBanerjee19966 August 2023
When it comes to creating convincing horror pieces, Bollywood has always been considerably behind compared to other regional industries of our nation.

Therefore, I typically hold little to no expectations whenever I mean to consume a Bollywood horror exhibition. But to my surprise, this was something different, something that had caught my attention.

Now, technically speaking, it does not offer anything 'new'. It sticks to the same principles, the same set of cliches and tropes that we have witnessed many a time before, but the way in which the show handled its intricacies and initiated pertinent discussions on some critical issues; commends appreciation.

Despite its shortcomings, it never detracts from its intended course; it does not tend to shy away from its commitments and obligations and has its heart in the right place, which I admired the most!

In summation, it's a good show, definitely worth your time if you love the conventional, textbook style of horror!

Unnecessary unnatural spookiness
khare021013 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Average story, weak direction, loose script. Wooden acting stands out. Unnecessary angles like bullying, closeness of the teacher and the main actor. The total number of students in "India's best school" is less than a 100!

The lead actor struggled for a single emotion on his face. Reminded me of the "Pallu" actor in Lamhe.

A 3 star General introduces himself as a Brigadier! Later referred as a Colonel in the same timeline.

A one hour drive taken by the lead actor to the dead boy's hometown requires an overnight bus!

All characters retained their characteristics from school time. Like the chhichhore remain chhichhore. The bad boy's loyalists remain the same after 15 years.

Overall, better to give it a miss.

Bollywood needs to take some inspiration...
babalnegi9 July 2023
A well-crafted, well-paced series worth watching. The death scenes are done really well except for the first one where the CGI lacks and its probably due to budget constraints.

Adhura is how you actually make a horror series, a good backstory, great suspense and a kill em all ghost.

And for the haters, not every horror show/series needs to frighten the bejesus out of you. Just watch it with an open mind and appreciate the hardwork.

I dont know about Indian Cinema AKA Bollywood but OTT really is raising the bar/expectations. Bollywood comes with crap like the never ending, everything happening in 1920 and people still watch it. It feels as if the creative juices have stopped producing any fresh material however Adhura might be predictable for some but its fresh.

Cant wait for Season 2, if it ever comes.

Cinematography 10 out of 10 but story is average
samridh-3911311 July 2023
Good cinematography really fits with the theme, kind of dark vibes

Acting is pretty good.good job done by all the cast.

Story is kind of average as it was very much predictable but still gives a good turn at the end.

You can watch it with your family and they will really like it as one time watch.

Length- i felt sometimes that story is being stretched and i was feeling kinda bored waiting for the conclusion of the episode but still much better than other series of similar kind

So yea i recommend you all to watch this as must one time watch series you will love the characters and the cinematography of the series m.

Watch only if have nothing else to do
pinkymadhubala8 July 2023
It doesn't surprise rather bores. I turned it in for Ishwak and was disappointed. Well to start with the story was loosely knit, non of the characters seemed to have a connection with other. Adu was trying too hard but it created a burden on screen as none of the others where able to justify the scenic situations that the writer and director were trying too hard to create. The presence of the dean was out and out boring and dev completely a mis-cast. After having a binge watch all I can come upto is my Saturday went in vain. It failed to create any horror elements to give a freight. Seemed back to the days of Ramsay. Wish it had more to offer.

Must watch
mnsh-394178 July 2023
Excellent cinematography, Excellent music score as per the situation, Excellent acting by all characters specially by ishwak singh and shrenik arora.

Nice shooting location and good direction makes adhura a must watch.

And the web series also meaninful and gives a message about boarding schools that there must be strong supervision that bullying is a offence and it should be minimized at any cost.

Bullying a child by it's roommates makes the child very terrified and helpless if child is so shy or if he don't share his/her feelings with anyone there should be a committee and counselor and strong administration for such children.

Yikes!
dahakedisha8 July 2023
I mean i dont understand how come they dont see what they make. Its so stupid and lameeee. Everything was predictable. Do not waste time. Everything was invested only on promotion but not on the show and quality of the story I was confused if I should laugh or get angry on the stupid script. If you want to watch just watch the 1st episode and the last one, you won't miss anything 🤣 . Skip to the last episode and save you energy and time.

Anyways indians horrors are always lame and boring this was nothing special. Do not expect any jump scare or a good story. Try harder or do not waste money lame storyline.

Horror yet beautiful
A-J2006_7778 July 2023
Yes, you heard it right, the movie is horror and beautiful at the same time. It's a very rare combination to see in movies or web series especially in Bollywood. But this series is an exception. The series is horror too as there's a ghost possessing the kid and other haunted stuff is there in the series. But it's very beautiful too. There is the beautiful bond between the friends.

A very beautiful bond which is very rare to see.

The series is very good and I suggest everyone to watch it. The twist, makers tried to give in the end of the series was somehow I didn't liked as it was not needed to stretch it more.

But overall, the series is good.

Lacks Horror.
mahajanhacker7 July 2023
I have seen many horror series and movies, but none as disappointing as Adhura. The series fails to deliver on its promise of Horror per se, and instead offers a dull and predictable plot that leaves the viewer feeling "incomplete". It is a shame that Indian Cinema has not yet mastered the art of creating effective horror stories, as they resort to cheap tricks like loud horror music and cheesy jump scares that do not evoke any genuine fear or suspense. The characters were also poorly developed and uninteresting, especially the kid who was supposed to be the main focus of the story. I could not connect with his emotions or motivations, and I did not care about his fate. The series lacked any sense of atmosphere or tension, and I found myself yawning and checking my phone more than once. I would not recommend this series to anyone who enjoys horror, or anyone who values their time.

The plot kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't keep myself away from the screen till I finished the season! With all the guesses I could make about "why", nothing came close and I was absolutely surprised with the end. Kudos to Rijul Ray as Dev for the justice done to the role. Very boring
husaincycle13 July 2023
The storyline was very boring. Acting was pathetic by all except Zoa Morani. What were they thinking while making this? There are too many loose points which is left to you to wonder. It could have been a movie rather than 8 episodes long. You will be able to predict whole story just from 1st episode so don't waste your time.

Passable watch on a wet weekend
sutithi9 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was raining cats and dogs. And I had nothing better to do. So I watched Adhura. The only solace is there was nothing better I could have done with my time.

The story had premise. But it couldnt be presented well enough. Horror content makers should know that all the fear is gone the moment we can see the source of that fear. The crippled ghost plodding around added nothing to the screenplay, in fact it took away from the suspense. It doesnt work that way. Horror doesnt work that way.

Almost everyone's acting was bad. The story was based on the age old cliche of supernatural revenge - really, nothing new there. The young boy's angle was refreshing. It was understandable why he was the chosen one. But overall, so much could have been done with what was available.

Gripping horror suspense series!! Brilliantly executed!!
sanjubhat16 July 2023
Web Series Review: Adhura streaming on Prime Video

Adhura is a suspense, horror web series that speaks of strange incidents that happen in a prestigious boarding school ( Nilgiri Valley School) after the arrival of a new student, Vendant. At the same time, when the Batch of 2007 arrive at the school for their reunion, a few students face retribution for a terrible incident that happened 15 years ago!!

Even though the story isn't new, the eerie ambience, great acting by a relatively new star-cast , lots of jump scare moments, great editing and direction will definitely keep u engrossed all throughout.

The suspense element coupled with a heady dose of horror is something we rarely get to see. Last time I had seen a good Hindi horror series was Dahan- Rakhan Ka Rahasya ( on Disney Hotstar). Adhura rises much above Rakhan and makes u feel real chills without making things turn into a really outlandish comedy!!

The story moves back & forth between 2007 and present day to set the context for the eerie events that start happening !!

The emotional angle too is very well dealt with !

Ishwak Singh , Rasika Duggal and Shrenik Arora - the young kid who has played Vedant shine in their roles. Rahul Dev unfortunately is wasted in miniscule role!

Why to watch: Adhura is a brilliantly executed series that takes u on an exhilarating journey filled with a perfect mix of mystery & horror, holding u in rapt attention till the very end !!

Go for it !! Highly recommended!!

I'm going with 4 Stars out of 5 for this one .. adios 🙂!!
