Weird but pretty funny!!!
tatendatagara11 November 2022
When me and my class first started the first episode of this anime i was kinda not feeling it. Cause of the title i just thought i was going to be this weird anime that i didn't like cause its no fighting or action in it. So at first i wasn't really paying attention cause its not really my type of anime. But i just looked up at the screen and really got to watching it and it was pretty good. It was just the first episode. So not to much happened but it was very interesting. It made me wanna watch more anime like this with less fighting and just getting more in tune. This is anime more for teens i think they could relate more to this anime i recommend you watch it.

My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex
Tweekums24 September 2022
While they were in middle school Mizuto and Yume were boyfriend and girlfriend but shortly before they started at high school they decided to break up. A mere fortnight later they are thrown back together when his father and her mother get married to each other! They decide that they will try to act like siblings and avoid any romance despite now living under the same roof. As they are the same age they argue over who should be considered the elder so they make a bet; the first to show signs of being attracted to the other is to be considered the younger.

This could easily have been another fan service led ecchi series but it manages to stay fairly innocent. The story progresses nicely; thanks to their wager we get plenty of amusing situations. The character designs are solid as is the animation. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to those wanting a fairly chaste story of possible romance.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

A little bit fan-service
ripperu-5586815 July 2022
There are some ecchi scenes which are not appropriate for kids and tend to service fans, also the plot is easy to guess and same with many other films which can be really boring. However, the special thing of this anime is that it shows the developing of the relationships between two main characters , also the art is not too bad. Overall, it is ok to watch , but it should be rated as PG-13 in my opinion.

Above all
Mysterygeneration14 January 2024
I watched what you could call a lovely anime in the summer of 2022; it had a poignant story, realistic characters and interactions, a straightforward but captivating plot, and, looking back, I can only describe it as a teenage indiscretion. I can state with certainty that "My Stepmom's Daughter is My Ex," also known as Tsurekano, was an anime that I thoroughly loved, never felt like a chore to watch, and-above all-connected with me.

First of all, the story. Let's be honest: this isn't a particularly interesting story. Stepsiblings and romance have already been the subject of numerous animes. You might already know what the anime is about from the title alone. What, therefore, is so fantastic about it? The basic plot, in my opinion, makes it really interesting. These days, complicated plots with frequent misunderstandings, errors, and drama are becoming stale. Taking a break from all that and curling up with an anime feels so good. It's a wonderful, compelling, and grounded piece of writing.

Tsurekano's storyline offers a compelling and realistic depiction of the characters' growth and humanization throughout time. Isana's development and the backstories and relationships between Yume and Mizuto are depicted as sincere and realistic. The narrative emphasizes the brittleness of relationships and the complexity of their hardships, which makes it a compelling and realistic program.

The anime's characters are grating and bothersome, but they're not always horrible. Mizuto is an endearing protagonist despite his shyness and fears; his attempts to aid Yume are heartwarming. Yume is a damaged heroine that experiences insecurities and realistic challenges with becoming popular. Minami is obnoxious and cunning; she is always attempting to alter other people's behavior. Kawanami sets the tone for humorous moments by acting as Akatsuki's possible love interest. As an introvert who can transform into an extrovert when she meets the right person, Isana is the greatest character. Her relationship with Mizuto is one of the best, and it's refreshing that she may be subtly influenced. For the most part, anime enthusiasts will find the work entertaining and relatable.

I have no issues; the sound was excellent. There were humorous sounds during comedic moments and emotional sounds during emotional moments. But the introduction and conclusion are pure gold. Along with ReoNa's Shall We Dance and Kana Hanazawa's Pokerface, the opening is my favorite song of the season. The opening sequence had good images, and I enjoyed the little tidbits about the people their lives were connected to. The song was fantastic; Dialogue+ is always a hit. Although it wasn't as good as the beginning, the finale was still quite useful. The visuals were charming, and the tune included some amazing harmony.

Although the art style is typical of modern anime, I found myself focusing mostly on the character designs. I seem I recall reading remarks about how uninteresting the characters appear when the first image for the show was shown. In all honesty, I think the tale worked really well with the simple character designs. It demonstrates how bizarre coincidences can occur in such a typical setting with typical people. Imagine this: up until their breakup, a cute, fluffy girl with pink hair dated the school prince. They unexpectedly reunite as stepsiblings. Now that doesn't seem so grounded, does it? The side characters' designs were fantastic and really brought out the difference.

I really liked this anime. The characters were real, the tale and plot resonated with me, the comedy was perfect for me, and there was an incredible beginning and conclusion. Together with LycoReco and Shadows House, this was my favorite anime of the season. Don't try it if it's not something you're interested in. However, if it seems like something you'll enjoy, then congrats-you now have a new show to watch!

Tolerable to say the least

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly to start off an extremely insane title card not to mention how it all falls together. You wouldn't expect a anime with such a surprising title to be so psychological when it's based around comedy, slight fan service and past whatnot but this particular anime is just way more deep then I thought it would be.

Give or take I assumed it was going to be like the usual "Oh, we have to act like siblings now so theres gonna be a lot of awkward moments, tension etc" from the first couple episodes it's pretty light hearted with how they both go about it even with their past being so present. If you ever don't have anything to watch give it a shot cause it isn't anywhere near bad it is just a shock when you look at it.

My dumb ex is my stepsister now.

Warning: Spoilers
Ok lets be real, this anime is mid. Off bat i hate the girl, i forgot her name but she's done so many things that i just hate her, and let me tell you why. First off, she came in the mc's room while he was just chilling coming to start problems with him, arguing about something so stupid like seeing who's gonna be the "big sibling". Then she wants to snoop around his room and just annoy him just for the title of "big sibling". Secondly, she starts making people at school think that she's the older sibling when she obviously knows that he won the little bet. The following day she goes in front of the guys that like her and says that she has a "brother complex". Like bro you could've said anything else but you chose that. She was trying soooo hard to annoy this guy when she should've kept to herself and just act as if they never dated. You know i don't usually get mad at stubborn girls such as tsundere's, but this girl is just plain annoying and that pisses me off. The last part when she came out of the restroom had made me so mad. What kind of sibling goes infront of their other sibling half-naked and just sits their looking at them. Unless you're from Alabama or Kentucky then thats just not sibling-like. Honestly she's such an L character that she makes the show bad. Not to mention so much fan service going on in the first episode. They might as well just make it an ecchi at that point.

Surprisingly psychological
kwesib-321798 October 2022
So we have a young couple in deep love but as a result of the "usual relationship issues," they break up. Months later, they are reunited only this time as step siblings much to their chagrin. This anime basically revolves around how this unique ex-couple have to coexist peacefully as step siblings despite the past.

With such a synopsis, I didn't expect the series to be psychological at all. When I say psychological, I don't mean something as dark or deep as death note. This anime is similar to Kaguya-sama Love Is War minus the comedy. This is because the two main protagonists throughout the show try to get at each other for the past through absurd mind games. Overall, the anime isn't that deep at all for it is more on light hearted side instead. Fan service is surprisingly minimal.

Great idea well executed - I love this show!
ichiban-4830329 January 2024
This anime begins with Yume and Mizuto in the hallway of their new joint home. Their respective parents married each other, making Yume and Mizuto step-siblings. Yume and Mizuto keep a secret from their parents: They used to date way before them. That makes the situation complicated, plus they hate each other a bit and fight about the privilege of being the older sibling. It turns out they're still hung up on each other, so things are getting pretty interesting.

The development of the characters during the show is intriguing, and with the help of a couple of flashbacks the depths of their emotions and minds come to light.

I really loved the show, it's romantic and it has some comedy elements in it too. There are 12 episodes, I binged 5, 5 more the next day and then watched the last two. The concept of the show is simple, yet brilliant. The artwork is beautiful, there is a little bit of fan service (but not too much) and the music is very nice also. G.
