The Good Wife- An Auspicious Season Opener ****
edwagreen26 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Excellent season opener.

Our Matt Czuchry, as Cary Agos, really seems to have matured over the summer. Still, he has that smiling sneer on his face. The guy is vicious and will do anything to undermine Alicia, especially so convenient now for him is that he works for her separated husband. He is cunning. How many people could state in court that Alicia's pursuit was to make sure that a new judge would have to be chosen on the day that Jewish judges wouldn't be in court due to the Rosh Hashanah observance?

Tonight's episode was timely and terrific. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict comes into view and both sides will stop at nothing to get their way. Eli Gold is asked to lead a Muslim drive against bigotry. Jewish leaders yell afoul as Gold himself is Jewish.

Plenty of tensions in Chicago when a Jewish student is murdered on a college campus and in a separate incident, 20 students fight and only 1 Arab student is arrested. Agos soon uses his skills to admit that the student was wrongly arrested, only to show that he was involved in the killing of the Jewish student-Simon Greenberg.

The ending will certainly not satisfy both groups but is quite interesting to say the least.

Something had better be done with Sunday Night football. It ran into the show and those who taped it, lost out. Thank goodness for hulu.com

The jury's still out
Frodo281215 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After waiting so long for season 3, this opener was disappointing.

In fact, the show seems to have shifted gear- less cerebral & subtle, more sexy & clichéd. What had been previously an intriguing relationship between Alicia & Will seems to have been simplified to lust. Where is the romance? Where are the subtleties & development of the relationships?

Next there is the Kalinda / Cary / Blonde investigator sexual tension and innuendos. It was all a bit clichéd, particularly where the 2 "hot chicks" joined forces and arrested the suspect.

Finally, there is the Alicia / Kalinda relationship, which had been so interesting & layered in its tentative friendship in Seasons 1 & 2. Now it is reduced to a moody teenage strop.

Hopefully the rest of the season will shift back to the subtleties & character exploration of the previous seasons.

Its New York Roots Are Showing
stevemaxey3 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes having a show set in Chicago film in New York leads to unintentionally funny dialogue:

The two bisexual female investigators approach a young male suspect in a bar: 1. If you want a more discreet gay bar, perhaps you should try Scarlet on Halsted. 2. Or Sidetrack 1. Nah. Too leathery.

That has to be the first time Sidetrack has been described as either discreet or "leathery" (whether you mean it in the SM/leatherman sort of way or simply age of the customers). Someone either didn't do their research or did it badly.

Weak start to a new season

Warning: Spoilers
Season 3 opener " A New Day"... an appropriate title. This is no longer "The Good Wife". I can't stress enough... there is way...to much so-called reality on TV as it is...can't we have a few "Good Guys" or in this case "A Good Wife" they too do really exist in this world. Also, remember the old adage...it's better to leave some things to the imagination. In this episode, the sex scene between Will and Alicia, was tooooooo much. It was so blatant, there was nothing to be left to our imagination. It was just plain tacky and offensive. This show was, when it began, a well written, well acted show, with good story lines. Did all the writers quit? It certainly appears so. For a season opener of an Emmy Award winning show, it was extremely weak in several areas. Aside from removing the obvious sexual tension from Will and Alicia, which was interesting, and then throwing their sexual escapades in our face, the Jewish-Muslim angle also fell short. Great build-up...big let-down. The Good wife has been my can't miss favorite since its inception, however, if this keeps up, I will find something better to watch on Sunday evenings.
