Sweet, dreamy and, most of all, really informative

Warning: Spoilers
"Sexuele voorlichting" or "Puberty: Sexual Education for Boys and Girls" is a Belgian Dutch-language short film from 1991, so this one is almost 30 years old now and it was directed by Ronald Deronge and written by André Singelijn. Both have never worked on another film before or after this one here. Same is true for the two young voice actors we here for this one. I am not entirely sure if they are also the ones we see in front of the camera, but it isn't too important anyway. Also this is the only film by production company Studio Landstar films. In my opinion this lack of further activity has nothing to do with this one here potentially being a bad film. Not at all. It is really a perfect summary of key sex education in under an hour. It starts very basically as we see two babies and how their genitals look different because of which gender they are. Then the film moves on to how genitals change during puberty and how attraction to the other sex comes into affect. There are no taboos either, which is a welcome statement about a film from the early 90s. Masturbation is seen as something positive and they say that myths related to it are nonsense. And finally, the film elaborates on what happens exactly during sex and how this can result in pregnancy. Or cannot result in pregnancy if you use one of the several ways of birth control elaborated on here. It's really all you need to know in a nutshell. Oh yeah, menstruation is also part of this. I thought overall it is a pretty good work. Sometimes it actually felt really sweet like when we see that (wet) dream sequence with the mention of stars and foam/steam coming up from the ground. It's somewhat romantic even. Also when we get to the part where one (older) character is pregnant and they say when explaining how it happened biologically that the most imprtant foundation for pregnancy (and sex in general) is that the two are deeply in love. Come on guys, you cannot feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I mean okay those who have ONS on a regular basis may agree and that is perfectly fine, but I personally thought it was somewhat sweet. There are 2 or 3 other moments like these that feel just right. Annd I also liked the narration choises they made with picking young people from each of the two sexes to elaborate on what you see and not one sterile grown-up narrator for all of it. So yeah, this si certainly a success. Did not expect such a high-quality outcome, but this is one of the best short films from 1991. It is exactly the kind of movie you want your kids to see during biology (sex education) at school and I disagree with the other reviewer that there was too much awkward nudity in here. It was just completely accurate in terms of quantity given the subject I would say. If I found anything a bit awkward or baffling, then maybe the reference that girls when masturbating think of how they played doctor years ago with their friends. I am not sure how accurate this is, but then again I am a guy, so I'll just believe them that. No flaws here really. Highly recommended.

Very much OK amateur ducumentary video

movie Seksuele Voorlichting

The Belgian 1991 video Seksuele Voorlichting is a pretty good production for an amateur crew and an all-amateur cast. The setting is a "normal" family. The minors show what needs to be shown, and do not engage in sexual intercourse of any kind. Another reviewer blames the makers of this film for not presenting the children as immaculate lilies, a silly rebuke since children are sexual beings from the very start, masturbating in the womb before they are born. The topics are presented one after the other: anatomy, function, wet dream, masturbation, menstruation, hygiene, playing doctor, falling in love, kissing. The demonstration of reproductive sex with full penetration is done by an adult couple, with no minors present. There is no plot, so this review cannot have any spoilers. There is hardly any acting. The video is a simple straightforward documentary. The music I find dull. There is no brilliant camera work. There are no special effects. These elements are not lacking; they are not needed. Any filmish showing off would just distract. There is no hip hyperactive presenter who says and does crazy things. I find the video fully OK in its genre, and give it eight stars out of ten: one off for imperfect editing here and there, and one off for the choice of music. I close with a warning: when the grownup daughter who has left the house comes in with her partner announcing they are going to have a baby, the happy news is celebrated with alcoholic drinks of which the pregnant daughter has one. This is a no-no! Pregnant women should not take any alcohol: it's bad for the unborn child. That should be part of the sexual education of the teenage audience that the film aims at. It's the only thing I find seriously wrong with the video.

A documentary purporting to be of instructive value about sexual development from infancy to puberty
prasanthsaregama23 January 2013
It purports to be a sex education film and to a certain extent, it is so.But the nudity and sex shown in the film is somewhat bizarre and not at all appealing what it is trying to claim. It subtly exploits under age nudity and sex to earn the lot. Perhaps to a connoisseur of existential realism, the film may be depicting what might have been going through the rungs of infancy to puberty of boys and girls. But in my opinion, one should not invest on such taboos to woo finance, but okay if the real intention is pedagogy. It seems the under age actors donned for the film are of the actual age as portrayed in the documentary. Behold it at your leisure , invest your wisdom on it, and infer whether it is a documentary or an under age sex farce. Being the paternal parent to my two daughters, I could not digest this on screen element. Whatever be the freedom extended to art forms, child nudity and child sex should not be allowed as a lucrative art.Let the children be children as immaculate lily. I have a strong apprehension that the under age actors in the documentary (?) are victims of art or run into it upon penury. May not it be so.
