"Chuck Versus the Zoom"
ManLikeAsis29 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
"Chuck Versus the Zoom" represents a new start to the show and the features both the old and the new. Chuck and company are still spies so main plot is a mission. The specifics for missions have never been strong and it seems like the writers have gotten lazier over the years. What's great about the missions is all the fun that can be packed in it and the season premiere has a fair amount of it.

The most obvious change is Chuck not having the Intersect anymore and Morgan having it. Compared to the season one Chuck, the season five Chuck is much different, more mature and sure of himself, able to do spy tasks without special powers. In fact, Chuck without the Intersect is about on equal footing with Morgan, who doesn't have a good grasp of his powers yet. But the writers make sure that Chuck does feel something about losing the Intersect. After all, he had it for years and without it, it makes him feel inadequate.

On the character side of things, lots of good stuff with Chuck trying to buy a house for Sarah. She eventually tells him what she wants--a cozy home with a white picket fence--and unfortunately, the CIA freezes their money. The show that sets off in a new direction: Chuck still has the spy company and the Buy More and he endeavors to earn enough money through both. With this, the show now has a goal and the Buy More will be relevant once more.

Chuck's mythology has never been its strong suit and it's a glaring problem in the episode. Decker and the CIA in the background are basic plot devices. Decker takes away the Intersect from Chuck and then takes his money, both game changing twists. But why? It's all shrouded in mystery, so we have no clue why Chuck is in the position he's in now.

Score: 10/10

Good Start !!!

Warning: Spoilers
Well, that's a good start. Let's see what they have in upcoming episodes! Though did not like the ending of that episode, expecting something different in next episodes. I want to see more actions what Chuck used to do in previous seasons. Though Chuck is not a usual spy, he used to do stuffs in a funny and effective way. Also Sarah and Chuck should have more passionate moments between them. I love this show because it's a good combination of action, comedy and romance. Would love to see more of that in upcoming episodes. Besides, this is the final season. They should do something out of the box which is gonna blow viewers' mind!

glad there was more (an wishin for more)

Warning: Spoilers
I did enjoy chuck and wished there had been more seasons, the "they" that cancelled are well idiots. "They" cancel the great/good shows because they don't really listen and "grade" shows on the majority who want to keep good TV going,(then they shove more "low" quality that cost them "pennies" while pocketing major money for themselves, eg more "reality" that dumb us down) well my thinking.

Anyone else think that having Morgan as the intersect was not real?? OK ya it turned him into a not so good one (liked that but should have done it sooner) I liked him as chucks best friend and loved it when he finally found out chucks secret, then becoming a part of the team, but just didn't like him as well as chuck when he became the intersect. Why, just didn't seem to fit. Ya I know who else could have had it and ya have the Morgan loose what was good about him and become a ass.

Would have been real diff show but say Alex had found them instead, just thinking outside and a mote point...

Great premiere
LoveIsAStateOfMind28 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Remember when I said at the end of last season that I'm not keen on this whole "Morgan has the Intersect" thing? Well, that still stands but it was a lot more bearable than I thought it would be. For a start, it was nice how he was more concerned about how Chuck felt about not having the Intersect than about gloating about his super power. Plus it provided some hilarious moments. Great opening sequence! Very funny! The whole Operation "Toes In The Sand" makes for a better acronym? Totally made me laugh more than it should. In fact I'm still laughing about it right now.

Hee Morgan is calling it "zoom" rather than "flash".

That Chuck/Ellie moment was sweet. No Captain Awesome in this episode though? :( Or Alex for that matter! I can't wait to see how she reacts to Morgan having the Intersect.

Jeffster's insurance scam! Hee the TITS mission and Sarah finding out! Awwwwh! Chuck/Sarah <3.

The whole "Master Spy" joke.

Chuck's "Leave me behind" "dying" speech and then the video recording "guys, please don't leave me behind." LMAO! With all the Nikita-type spies in my life, I've forgotten how funny Chuck can be! CHUCK/SARAH!!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3.

Okay, I seriously hate Clyde Decker (even if I can barely remember who he is). Go away.

This'll be a great final season
dewlover4209 March 2021
With how strong this season premiere was, Chuck has course corrected. (Within the new standards set with Season 3.)

I watched this show while it was airing but had forgotten a decent majority of it. I'll need to make a clip video (video essay, essentially) on this because it's groundbreaking.

Anyways, this episode is great. Quality improvement over Season 4, back to the earlier seasons production value.

Can't spoil anything, so I'm sort of stuck. I guess I could say that there's some new stuff that's going to happen this season, and it seems good.

Maybe even good enough to lead to a satisfying series finale?

Fantastic New Season!
jkjsaunders20 January 2024
Great start to season five!! I love the changes that were made and this episode was just wonderful!

It was funny, serious, and exciting! It had everything!

Love the team, love the intersect change, and the acting is spot on as usual. The characters work SO well together, and it's totally believable. Love it.

I've been wondering if they would ever be able to have their own organization. Although, I cannot stand the new evil guy, especially since he's with the agency.

It's such a great show Altogether. It's been amazing to see how the characters have grown and evolved! It makes watching so enjoyable. We never know what's going to happen next!!

Sophomoric
skay_baltimore14 January 2021
This show has always had a tendency towards sophomoric humor, but now that's ALL that this show is about. The writing, directing, and producing all seem as if they're being done by 12 year old prepubescent boys. Clearly, things have not improved since last season's disastrous results.
