What a combination
sameerlodaya21 July 2023
Sameer lodaya.

The movie is one of the best combination of content ever found in Hindi movies

Nitesh once again came back with a unique concept with excellent direction after chhichhore here he offers you all the elements of a movie in nice crafted Combination..the movie has classic humour ,high emotions ,soft love story ,top notch performances, good songs and a great lesson on world war 2 with deep morals..some scenes were very touchy and gave goosebumps..the pace of the movie is slow which should be a matter to raise rest it is outstanding

The character of Varun which started as a fake guy with wrong attitudes and how he changes gradually till the end is played by him with all varieties of expression in a brilliant way.. janvis character from the start was very tender hearted with soft looks was marvellously played by her

The movie is meant to watch with all family members of all ages where everyone will get their share of entertainment by all means

The makers have perfectly targeted the ott audience which is classy and not masses but still a good addition to Bollywood dictionary.

Bad female lead selection
partham2 August 2023
Everything about this movie is good (above average). The director is great, the lead male actor has done justice to his role (he is tailor made for this type of character actually, no surprise he will do excellent job).

Story is not typical, although the ways the story beings is too much unrealistic. After that it has followed a very good route - it has some ideas to share with you and audience should really be able to relate to the storylines.

The reason I gave 6 instead of 7 or 8, is the heroine. As the female character is also having significant role in this movie, it would be wiser to choose someone who can actually do some acting.

"Bawaal" truly deserves a theatrical release
Hussain-AL-Naseer23 July 2023
Bawaal exceeded my expectations, proving to be a delightful surprise that left a lasting impression. Nitesh Tiwari adds another feather to his directorial cap with this captivating film.

The movie's strongest aspect was undoubtedly its compelling story, which held my attention from start to finish. Nitesh Tiwari's skillful storytelling techniques kept me engaged, and the well-crafted narrative unfolded beautifully on screen.

One of the highlights of Bawaal was Varun Dhawan's genuine and heartfelt acting. He effortlessly portrayed the character, infusing it with depth and emotion, making it easy for the audience to connect with him. Jahnvi Kapoor also left a mark with her noteworthy performance, ensuring her presence was felt throughout the entire movie.

The supporting cast, including the talented Manoj Pahwa, delivered stellar performances, adding layers of authenticity and charm.

The movie's impact was such that it deserves a theatrical release.

Find happiness in what you have...!!!
PANDIAN12062121 July 2023
With a usual story onboard Nitesh tiwari carefully masters the art of film making with some intelligent screenplay well supported by core team of Ashwini Iyer and piyush Sharma which adds some value added human emotions that strikes straight to the heart & thanks to 2nd world war without which this project is just another "BAWAAL" Mithesh mirchandani handles the visual grandeur for what it requires for a romedy flick while charu shree editing does a crispy work that keeps the soul of the movie flowing at a study pace... After a great work of "DANGAL" & underdog "CHICCHHORE" this flick does take a scenic route which is a Zara atke type for Nitesh movie but doesn't disappoint ... Overall it gets u a Midas touch to find happiness of what u have which concludes a strong recommendation for a typical ott movie based on expenses we spend on a single movie these days.

Nitesh Tiwari's interesting take on romantic features
SoumikBanerjee199621 July 2023
When we think about Bollywood romance, flashes of classic SRK movies with vivid visuals and over-the-top caricatures immediately spring to our minds. However, the stylisation and the overall approach have evolved drastically and gradually moulded into a more relevant shape keeping our modern-day lifestyle and civilisation in mind. Albeit, the gist has remained identical. And thus, making every other romantic feature somewhat alike to some extent.

"Bawaal" attempts to break out of that norm!

While it uses some well-established tropes & cliches to lay the foundation of the lead couple, the kind of parallels it draws afterwards to build that relationship further is quite unmatched. Tracing way back to the horrific events of the Second World War, the story puts lots of effort to symbolise the difficulties and dilemmas of our minds to that of a time of absolute horror when all participating nations of the War and their innocent people went through inconceivable hardship and misfortune.

They endured Pain which is beyond comprehension.

Now such comparisons may come across as naive & pretentious to some people, and that is completely understandable cause it looks like Nitesh Tiwari (the director) wanted to tone down the actual severity of the circumstances so that his work could be widely accessible, thus resulting in a byproduct that lacks mandated sincerity and fervour.

Nevertheless, the tender chemistry between Varun and Janhvi made my two hours worthwhile. And I like that they both were committed to their roles and played their respective parts with utmost honesty and conviction and thereby making it one of the most interesting pieces of work coming from Bollywood.

Must Watch!!!
abhik-5637621 July 2023
After a long time, a simple, feel good movie. It reminds us not to run after things you want, but to love and nurture what you have. It definitely brings good feeling of love and warmth between husband-wife relationship and once again make you fall in love with your spouse. The screenplay which is experimented, actually worked out and will get loved by the masses. It reminds you to live life in a simple way by loving people. All the characters were so beautifully portrayed, especially Varun and Janhvi in their leading roles. Direction, writing, screenplay, background scores - all were so good. Should have released out in theaters; a well deserving successful film!!!

Love story but with different angle
deepankarbiswas-8473923 July 2023
Earlier I thought it's just an ordinary love story but when I started to watch I was hooked with the creativity shown in this movie. I will not say that it is outstanding but this movie you can watch for different taste and will change your perspective towards things and life that is enough for today's audience. Varun Dhawan done his good job but I think most of recent movies are same if you will look back like jug jug jeeyo is the recent. Jhanvi done decent job, other characters also have a good impact in this family drama but I will only give credit to director who have tried different and out come is good.

**Love story but with different angle**

A must watch family Movie
nishanteventorganizer21 July 2023
Its a family movie whichbcan be watched with kids, Varun and Jaanvi did a great job. Awesome story writing not at all boaring. Loved watching it.

Don't go for negative reviews watch the movie and decide nowadays people are full of negativity and movies like this really need your support.

Varun Dhawan gave his best performance and Jaanvi look so gorgeous in Indian attires. Both of them has a great chemistry on sceen.

Rest all the actors did their job perfectly, locations, screen play, music and story very synchronized very well.

Story gives a strong message and some hood history lesson as well.

Good Clean movie
rajnnair6 August 2023
The story of a couple having issues after the bride gets epilepsy attack on her wedding day. Since the groom is various of his social status he distances away from her. When he is on the verge of losing his job as a teacher he plans an educational trip to the countries at the center of world war 2. How they both bond with each other and resolve their differences is the crux of the movie.

The movie has feel good factor and is clean, however not sure why there was a need to link it to world war 2 which did not make sense.

How they develop a bond during tour of europe is the crux of the movie.

The songs are ok.

Janhvi is excellent as Nisha and brings lot of sincereity and innocence to her role and is the heart of the movie.

Varun is ok.

They are well supported by Manoj and Anjuman.

Dumbest plot ever omfg
anayapatel-0140923 July 2023
The screenplay or story is one of most dumbest iv ever seen i cant belive it. Guy feel ashamed that his wife gets fits and has grounded her and when he slaps a student who happens to be MLA son he goes to europe with his wife to places that had historic impo in WW2😒🙄 and this journey fix thier relationship. Typing this made me cringe so dnt waste your time watch something good there are tons of new stuff. A 10 yr old can write a more sensible plot.

The name of movie, core plot and screenplay and acting nothing make sense at all.

So guys if you have medical condition go to europe to contemplate🤣🤣🤣🤣 omg chutad bollywood.

Varun tu lux cozi bech bhai movies rehnede.

BAWAAL:-not nitesh's best, but another great addition to his filmography
puranjanbasak29 July 2023
Bawaal is an action romantic drama film directed by nitesh tiwari.

This film does not trivialize the WW2, thats for certain. What it does is draw a parallel between the tragedy and the tragic relationship, sometimes successfully and sometimes not.

Varun dhawan and jahnvi kapoor share a good chemistry. I was surprised to see janhvi improve so much. She expresses the emotions of a sad wife yearning for her husband's acceptance beautifully. Varun dhawan, has always been a good actor. He again does a great job in this film. Manij pahwa and prateek pachori lend good support. The gujarati running gag, becomes forced after a time.

The writing brings sensitivity towards the problem of epilepsy through the transformation of ajay's character arc. He first see her epileptic on his wedding day, gets embarrased and becimes hostile. He comes full circle in auschwitz, when he accepts her with her problems. But, it also casualizes the realization, in the sense that you dont feel the sincerity or emotions when he accepts her. It just happens. The screenplay, too looses the audiences' attention for short spans of time.

The music in this film is breathtaking to be honest. 'Tumhe kitna pyaar karte' is such a 90's track for the romantics. Its soulful and very meaningful. 'Dil se dil tak' is also another wonderful number. 'Dilon ki yeh doriyan' is a wonderful peppy track. The music is incorporated tactfully into the screenplay. The dialogues are good. The cinwematography is very good. During the action scenes, the slow mo sequences accentuate the impact of the horror.

Its a great film, and does not trivialize the horror of WW2.

Varun & Janhvi shine in this love & war drama!
nadkarnisumeet23 July 2023
Bawaal review :

A direct to OTT release; Nitesh Tiwari's Bawaal gets an A for its intent and the underlying message. Even with its share of flaws and a few slack moments in between the two hours fifteen minutes runtime.

A highly image conscious Lucknowi school teacher (Varun Dhawan) despises his wife (Janhvi Kapoor) due to her epileptic condition. This ever hyper history teacher creates a 'bawaal' when he slaps the legislator's son and gets instantly suspended. As an image saving ploy, he travels to Europe with wifey in tow, and streams the World War II (WW II) striken cities of Paris, Berlin, Normandy, etc as a live history lesson to his students...

Admittedly, Bawaal's basic concept of finding happiness in oneself, is quite pertinent for today's times. To quote a yesteryear song "Duniya mein itna ghum hai, mera ghum kitna kum hai", is the lesson here. Varun's inherent frustration finds a vent while exploring the war sites of Europe. His strained equation with Janhvi also changes during the course of their Europe tour, which make for some genuinely funny moments. The Gujju gang encounter is one such hilarious sequence.

On the flipside, correlating WW II events to the human psyche of finding true happiness may not be relatable to the average Indian. Perhaps a history lesson from India might have served the purpose better.

Tiwari extracts awesome performances from his lead pair. Varun Dhawan is just perfect as the utter selfish dude, who just cannot think beyond himself. His subsequent self realization also looks completely convincing. Janhvi Kapoor is a revelation. She springs a pleasant surprise with a highly controlled and effective act besides looking extremely pretty throughout the movie. Bawaal would certainly boost her career in a big way. Kudos!

To sum up, Bawaal is worth a dekho. Don't know how its theatrical performance would have been, but it will definitely do very well on Amazon Prime. Hit hai boss!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

A Confused Love Story
pathbreakingwriter24 July 2023
Considering that a lot of people are appreciating this movie, I decided to watch it and sure I did REGRET.

I have no clue in the world what these people found in this movie so brilliant that they are rating it so highly.

The plot is an absolute mess. Sure, the director has tried to amp up the emotional chord but I found the comparison of marriage issues with WWII a bit ridiculous.

Both the characters Varun and Janhvi don't have much depth.

The supporting cast does a good job. The music is passable and the only good thing is that audience get to know more about WW stories and information.

Overall a SNORE FEST.

Khan Review- one of the best of jhanvi
zkzuber25 July 2023
Bawaal name doesn't go with the movie script the selection of title is totally wrong but i can say this is the first movie jhanvi got a food role and she did a good job. Surprisingly this is first time she sounds like sree devi you feel as if sri is speaking. The movie is good and the way the story was connected with World war was also effective the beauty of marriage togetherness was conveyed beautifully a good message. I found jhanvi's performance steals the show compare to varun. Sich movies should be watched by couples. Hope they had decided on some other title because it seems totally mismatched with the story.

Every relationship goes through it's own Auschwitz.
chand-suhas6 August 2023
Ajay Deekshit (Varun Dhawan) is a history teacher at a school in Lucknow. He has built a fake image with lies and is proud of living his life that way. He is married to Nisha (Janhvi Kapoor), who is too good for him, infact better than him. She suffers from Epilepsy, which Ajay is worried would dent his image. He is ashamed to take her out or even leading a life together. He is least interested in his job as a teacher as well. What happens when his marital life and job, both are tested? How his agenda to use an Europe trip to save his image eventually change him to save what truly matters, forms rest of the story.

Honestly, my mom instantly thanked me for making her watch this movie, such was the impact. I wouldn't say they trivialized the Nazi atrocity or even made the comparisons lightly. I do agree, for the person Ajju Bhai was, this felt a bit too extreme to be used to make him realize his mistakes. Other than that, the film was truly well made and it totally worked for me. Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor performed really well and they deserve the praise. The screenplay as it moved from Paris to Normandy to Berlin and Auschwitz, the atrocious history of World War 2 was cleverly incorporated.

The Amsterdam episode was good too and delivered the humor as well with the stereotypical portrayal of the Gujjus. There aren't too many songs to distract as the main focus is on using the rough historical moments to mend the relationship. So kudos to Nitesh Tiwari to sticking to what he believed as the end result was indeed that good. Aakhir mein Mahaul bhi achcha bana aur result bhi nikla.

Definitely recommended.

Movie with Artistic and Sensitive Touch
AnotherAngle36621 July 2023
The movie uses artistic touch and makes us sensitive to understand NAZI oppression and connects it to dark within everyone. The movie uses historical incident not to trivialize or politicse it but to make common people sensitive to any lurking NAZI within us. The movie is right to connect ROMANCE and historical tragedy as the participants in each of the acts are common individuals, albeit with opposite psychologies.

The movie is able to bring truth out that every couple can have a love story if they become sensitive in their behaviour to each other. The intertwining of Romance and Historical tragedy is perfect as one act is done by anyone sensitive and the other by anyone insensitive.

A hit and miss
alankarchauhan26 July 2023
First and foremost its Nitesh Tiwari we are talking about but sadly, it ain't him. There were several instances where the emotions merely scratched the surface; the film attempted to establish a connection with the audience, but it couldn't delve deep enough. I believe the screenplay deserved more time, as it all appears half-baked. I am glad the makers opted for an OTT release, but nonetheless, it remains an average film, which is ironic, given that Ajju bhaiya is also an average person in life. So, beat that, fellas. In totality, it speaks of simplicity and finding joy in what you've got!!!!

A sensitively handled love story !! Truely Bawaal!!
sanjubhat21 July 2023
Film Review: Bawaal Streaming on Prime Video #sanjuzzreviews #Bawaal #primevideoindia #varundhawan #janhvikapoor

Bawaal , directed by Nitish Tiwari is the story of Ajay ( Varun Dhawan) & Nisha(Janhvi Kapoor) set in Lucknow. Ajay is a self obsessed, narcissistic teacher who is only concerned about his image in society. He treats his newly wedded wife Nisha very badly as she suffers from epilepsy and he considers her a "defective piece". In a last ditch effort to save her marriage, Nisha takes a trip with Ajay to Europe and sparks off events that change their lives forever!!

The direction by Nitish Tiwari is awesome and he brings the love story to life with great cinematography, a decent music score & a fantastic chemistry between Dhawan and Kapoor. Their love story is handled with great sensitivity & will surely touch your heart !!

Both lead actors have given inspired performances. A fine balance between comedy and emotional scenes is maintained very well all throughout. A fun filled cameo by the boisterous Gujju Gang who provide some well needed comic relief deserves a mention too!!

Even though the narrative seems to slow down at times, the film is very relatable and will appeal to lovers of the ROMCOM genre.

Going with 3/5 for the film + 0.5 star for the superb acting by the lead pair !! .. Adios 🙂!!

Bawaal - life's true image
cromaine-119705 August 2023
Not going to put in any spoilers because this move is piece is clear.

Let's start with the story. The story is slightly slow in bits. I feel a little too much time was spent building up Varun's character and as a result just in the midst when the story takes a turn to see him improve his relationship with his wife. It kind of falls flat.

I was left wondering after his failed France outing, where did he suddenly change? Did I miss a few minutes and actually rewound to find that Nopes the movie changed gears midway.

But the story makes sense. The relationship and the strains between husband and wife are well captured and kept realistic.

Varuns acting is as usual awesome. Janvi was her awesome self. While she does look gorgeous the beauty of this movie is there was no extra make up to make her look out of the way beautiful. Her good looks were used well and they let her acting shine.

Truly a good movie to sit down on a lovely cool evening to pass the time and watch and go on a world war 2 tour of Europe.

Insensitive take on a extremely horrifying historic event
nomad_lost721 July 2023
How did this movie get passed thru editing, approvals? I'm really hopeful that this movie gets buried deep 50 million feet, all the way to the core of the planet where the movie (along with the actors, director, story writers, producer) can simply melt from existence.

The dialogues are appalling on so many levels. To think if Hollywood had made a movie about bengal famine, or the jallianwala bagh massacre and compared those incident to a phase in "every" relationship. This movie is a ginormous stain on Bollywood and hope that our irrelevance is the reason this movie isn't watched by the citizen any other country. To trivialise Auschwitz.. Truly astounded & ashamed ...

In The Film 'Bawaal', The Audience Found a Different Story.
rajmakoley22 July 2023
'Bawaal' is a romantic drama film which is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Speaking about the movie, it is a good film. Story by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. The audience found a different story in the film. And also get some historical information about World War ll. Except for some glitches, the movie will be good to watch.

The Director decorated the story very nicely. He maintained balance between comedy and emotional scenes. Including historical incidents and to feel oneself in historical events, the scenes are what sets the movie apart from others.

Mitesh Mirchandani's cinematography and Film Location is very beautiful. Even if don't remember the songs much but the background score is very good.

Talking about performances, Varun Dhawan (Ajay Dikshit, Ajju), Janhvi Kapoor (Nisha Dikshit) are the lead actors in this film. They acted very well. They shared screen first time. The supporting actors, Manoj Pahwa (Ajay's Father), Anjuman Saxena (Ajay's Mother), Mukesh Tiwari (MLA) and others portray their character well.

  • Rajma Koley.

A good movie with different storyline
aditisng-5946915 December 2023
Usually I never watch varun's movie because of his overacting and low acting skills but I saw one scene from this movie in a random reel and got curious to watch this movie. Just finished watching it and it turned out to be good! What I liked, this movie wasn't like the same random stories which we have watched already. It was something unique, a different storyline was there. Movie didn't bore me and thankfully it didn't have lame jokes as other varun's movies have. Story was connecting and interesting till the end. Now coming to the acting part, jahnvi was good according to her role specially the fits part she did well. Varun was acting like Varun, nothing different but he didn't overact here and was in the character a bit, that's what I like. Overall the message from this movie was a good one. It's much needed specially in this fake people era. And the last thing for jahnvi is that she has that potential, she just has to push more and she'll end up being one of the good actresses. She was decent and good even in this movie. Every actor kinda played well. Giving 7 stars overall because it was not outstanding but a good movie surely. My message to Varun is : Badlapur's Varun was the best. Laut aao. After badlapur he has been overacting and didn't hold any character till date. Thankfully in this movie he was decent but not that good.

No need to spend this much amount of money on European history
rajeevchattri13 August 2023
Overall it was a nice movie. It would have been better if they had show Indian histories rather than someone else's history (in this case European history). We have very rich variety of histories and stories which need more digging and then presenting it to world. It would be helpful to our people. I think you guys have a nice platform and if you show our root and it's culture then you could make a great content. This will also draw the people from other parts of the world to come and explore our histories. May be this could be the script for Baval 2 😄. And just for fun Dont spend so much money by going to Europe we have same level of places here as well 😆.
