Why are these shorts so awful?
actaction25 April 2022
Did Billie just say that the Danny Elfman original score of the Simpsons was garbage? Maybe I misinterpreted it. Look, all of these direct to Disney Plus shorts have been absolutely awful. They are single joke oddities with no Simpson flare and a feeling of corporate creepiness like co-branding anything that sticks. Please stop it and get back to quality like the Maggie's shorts in the daycare (but not the same thing rehashed... something new). These shorts have me worried about the Simpsons Sequel coming up. I hope they show more restraint than spiders coming out of someone's mouth as a joke.

Well this was a waste of time!

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah Sorry... this ain't it, chief.

Pros: Billie Eilish is surprisingly a really good actor! As we've seen her when she hosted Saturday night live. She can deliver a good comedic timing and tone. As she can have a lot of fun doing this roles as well as singing. (Which is obviously her specialty.)

I liked the little visual gag with the Billie Eilish recording studio and the little sign that said what was Billie's hair today that changes over it.

"Sorry guys, I'm replacing all of you with this little girl I found under a bridge" was funny.

Bart Simpson, while not being there for quite awhile and only had one line was cute in here. He had cute little visual gags and his one line very much sounded like him. So he was fine.

"Free us!" Was funny.

Cons There's little to no value. Mainly because there's no message to truly make this a worth while watch.

There's no character development or real emotion between Billie and Lisa mostly because it's literately 3 minutes long and half of the whole short is just this the musical notes from the Simpsons theme song sheet springing to life and performing silly hijinks with the citizens of Springfield.

I Barley remembered the whole thing literately two seconds after writing this review so i had to re-watch it again to Romberg what i hated about it.

Doesn't Billie live in LA, why does she have a giant freaking recording studio in Springfield, let alone IN Springfield to begin with?

Finneas is barley in here and does practically nothing but sit there and have a couple of lines.

The John Coltrane joke felt weirdly cramped in there

The Disney plus gag also felt weirdly cramped in there.

Maybe time to stop and re-assess

Longtime fan of Lisa Simpson here. Should have liked this short, and didn't. The Simpsons shorts in the post-Tracey Ullmann era started out good (The Longest Daycare, Willie's Views on Scottish Independence, Playdate with Destiny), and gave a breath of fresh air to these characters having them respond to current events, or explore new directions such as Maggie having a silent little adventure. Since moving to Disney+, it's been generally downhill.

The shorts all seem intended to advertise both the show or other Disney products. Plusaversary was particularly bad with the way it shilled for Disney+, and there's a bit of that with this one too, particularly in the end credits. Three minutes long and not a single laugh, and a few cringey moments too (spiders out of Billie's mouth, eww). I think it's time for The Simpsons writers to stop and rethink, "What are we doing here?"

Well, this was a piece of crap
AmazingAspie23 April 2022
5 writers and 16 producers worked on this short. This was nearly as bad as the Lisa Goes Gaga episode. Not funny and pretty uninteresting. I would've preferred to watch paint dry over this.

This I just awful not about the celebrities part just that they made homer sound like a bad dad even tho he tries his best and even showed proof he cares about her daughter in older episodes.

It Didn't Work the First Time

They already did this with Lisa Goes Gaga, and look how that turned out. Like seriously, why does Disney keep airing these shorts that only exist as advertisements. First the MCU, then they literally did a commercial for Disney+, and now Billie Eilish. It's boring, with extremely weak jokes, but luckily it's only 3 minutes. Don't waste your time on this.

Somehow manages to destroy characters even more
dysfunctionalrequest28 April 2022
I can't believe this short actually makes Lisa say that Homer had never been a fan of her passion nor cared about her music. If you can't remember (seeing as the writers haven't) Homer actually brought Lisa her instrument and in quite a few episodes he goes out of his way to try and help her with her musical talent. Sure, he may not understand it but does he support her? Absolutely. Does he care about her music? Yes, very much so. Lisa is one of the few people he will ignore his selfish desires for, especially when it comes to her passion of music (at least, until the new seasons decided that Homer did not need a character apart from "jerk").

Billie also sucks. Her music sucks, she sucks, and her voice acting sucks. Why is she even in the episode? Because these idiot writers can't help but drool over the prospect of ANOTHER celebrity bumping up their ratings.

It is not as bad as Lisa Goes Gaga, but close to.

Who bought you the sax Lisa?
JacklandStudios834 May 2022
This, like Maggie eloquently put, sucks. But not in the good way.

I'm just glad these are being done as shorts instead of forced half an hour nonsensical episodes like the Lady Gaga one.

Also, aren't these shorts supposed to be funny like the Maggie ones?

This is just a "look how great this artist everyone already knows is" with no wit, no parody and (most importantly) no comedy.

The Simpsons needed to change producers 20 years ago...

Why so short?
gabrielromanos_22 April 2022
I wanted at least one hour of that, but still a rating of 10 from me 🤷‍♂️. I hope they will eventually make a full episode. Just the idea of exploring a Billie-Lisa relationship is sooo cool!

Doesn't fit the Bill
mattiasflgrtll63 July 2022
Lisa can't play her saxophone peacefully at home, so she relocates to a bridge. Billie Eilish randomly finds her there looking for new talent.

Probably the stupidest plot in all of the shorts. By now there is no logical explanation required whatsoever for a celebrity to appear. Billie just happens to be in Springfield and we don't know why. She's also a weirdo who has her agent hold her upside down talking to the girl playing sax under the bridge.

There's not a friendship "developed" between Lisa and Billie, we are just supposed to get excited about Billie Eilish guest starring in a short. It pales an incredible amount to Lisa seeing lonely jazz player Bleeding Gums Murphy sounding away his sorrows in the middle of the night. Coincidentally both involve a bridge. But while here it's a cheap joke, there it serves as a meeting place for a profound and emotionally revealing connection of souls. It's not just beautiful and atmospheric, it does a great job at making you care about Lisa's feelings of alienation and desire to find like she belongs somewhere.

This is Simpsons in 2022 though, so any sublety or finesse you might expect will not be present. Instead we get Lisa monotonously saying that her father couldn't care less about her music, and if he seems to it's only because he's drunk. They prefer presenting it like the whole family is miserable and never in sync with each other rather than attempting something more nuanced. Lisa is a victim of everyone's stupidity or ignorance and she's a perfect angel who can do no wrong.

And of course, there is nothing funny whatsoever. Not even a mild chuckle, every single joke lands with a thud. The worst one has to be spiders crawling out of Billie's mouth, which is so bafflingly dumb that I'm at a loss for words. Was I supposed to laugh at how gross it was? How random it was? I honestly cannot tell what the punchline is supposed to be.

Dear Al Jean and Disney, please get it through your heads nobody wants these lazy advertisements that only get produced as money-making filler for the platform! They are embarrassing and tarnishing The Simpsons' name more than the show itself already does.

Worst Simpsons Disney plus film ever
wedfan-528033 January 2024
I watched when billie met Lisa short film on Disney plus and the short was very crap with typical American Disney dialogue in the film I found very predictably and the scene were Lisa Trys to the Simpsons theme with her saxophone in the recording studio was rubbish and I did not like the scene were they made the Simpsons version of steam boat Willy with Micky mouse is on the boat in the musical montage scene because that scene was a flop and I liked the scene were Homer is sat on the hammock in his underpants were the musical notes come on to his head were he dances that scene was very hilarious.
