If this year’s Creative Arts Emmys took place in Westeros, HBO would’ve easily ascended to the Iron Throne.
Fueled by its original series Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, with a little love thrown at the Clive Owen-Nicole Kidman movie Hemingway & Gellhorn to boot, the pay cabler walked away from the evening with 17 total wins, including six for Thrones alone. (Last year, the fantasy saga grabbed gold just twice, even including at the Big Show.)
CBS placed a solid second with 13 wins, including five total for its coverage of the Grammys and Tonys, plus a pair for,...

Not sure how many Broadway fans will get the hockey reference, but Neil Patrick Harris has made it a hat trick and agreed to host the upcoming Tony Awards for the third time in four years. Nph is good at it, and it is nice that Broadway has stability on the hosting front. I’m already wondering what will happen late this year when AMPAS starts looking around again for an Oscar host. Billy Crystal certainly stopped the bleeding by stepping in after Eddie Murphy dropped out along with producer Brett Ratner, but Crystal’s usual schtick felt dated to me. Emmy Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris, star of the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, returns to host The 66Th Annual Tony® Awards, to be broadcast live from The Beacon Theater in New York, Sunday, June 10 (8:00-11:00 Pm, live Et; delayed Pt) on the CBS Television Network.

This will be the third time that Harris has hosted the Tony Awards, previously serving as host for both The 63Rd Annual Tony Awards in 2009 and The 65Th Annual Tony Awards in 2011. As he did in 2011, Harris will also act as a producer, along with executive producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Tony Awards,” said Neil Patrick Harris. “Not only will I be shining a spotlight on the best that Broadway has to offer, but hopefully I’ll score some free house seats to a show – or five!

Brevity was the name of the game at last night’s Directors Guild of America Awards, held at the Grand Ballroom above the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Last year’s event celebrated the DGA’s 75th anniversary, and as a consequence, the evening ran so voluminously long, DGA president Taylor Hackford felt obliged to promise “to keep things moving quickly” for this year’s affair, to much thankful applause from the crowd.
As it turned out, Hackford needn’t have worried. While it is customary for all the feature film nominees to speak at the DGAs, both Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris...

The Directors Guild of America has announced the winners of the DGA Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in film, television, and commercials for 2011. The DGA's are often considered the best predictor of who will win the Academy Award for Best Director. The nominations were a bit of a shocker because Steven Spielberg was left off the list for his work on "War Horse."
No director not at least nominated for a DGA Award has gone on to win the Best Director Oscar, and only a handful of past DGA winners have failed to win one. Master of Ceremonies Kelsey Grammer, joked about tedious awards shows saying, "Last year's awards were so long, the directors cut is two hours shorter."
We've got the list of winners for you right here. Who do you think will take the Best Director Oscar this year? Are you surprised by the winners? Do you think...

Los Angeles -- The Directors Guild of America Awards are the latest Hollywood film honors to go silent.
Hollywood's top filmmakers group presented its feature-film honor Saturday to Michel Hazanavicius for his silent film "The Artist," giving him the inside track for the best-director prize at the Academy Awards.
"I really love directors. I really have respect for directors. So this is really very moving and touching for me," said Hazanavicius, whose black-and-white silent charmer has cleaned up at earlier Hollywood honors and could emerge as the best-picture favorite at the Feb. 26 Oscars.
The Directors Guild honors are one of the most-accurate forecasts for who might go on to take home an Oscar. Only six times in the 63-year history of the guild awards has the winner failed to win the Oscar for best director. And more often than not, whichever film earns the directing Oscar also wins best picture.
