PC? Xbox? PS3? Who cares...BUY IT!
phillo74-130 October 2011
I've been waiting for this game to come out for the last year, specifically for the multiplayer. Single player? I can take it or leave it...and after hearing all the negatives about this campaign, I didn't hold my breath. Nevertheless, I was quite surprised when I eventually tackled it. Fair enough, it may not be very original, story-wise. Then again, what do you expect out of a Modern Combat shooter? Aliens? Giant gorillas? No? You expect what you see on the news! In light of this, then the story IS, in fact, entirely up to scratch. It's realistic. It's raw.

As for the multiplayer - well - it's absolutely heart pounding. I'm playing on PS3 and I was a little disappointed to discover that the graphics weren't a thousand leagues beyond bad company 2 (That's why I haven't rated it 10)...but still...there are times when you can't help but stop and admire some of the gorgeous textures, lighting, and movement. For a console, yes, I have to say that the graphics are very VERY beautiful! Next, the gameplay. Let's just say, during my first few rounds, I played with bated breath! It's chaos! The sound is fantastic, and nothing gets your heart pounding harder than the blur effect of oncoming suppressing fire! This IS war! By the way, I would like to say that i am an avid FPS player. I tell you this because I love the Call of Duty Franchise also. However, seen as MW3 looks like it'll be the version MW2.5, I really hope that battlefield 3 gives it a run for its money! My score: 9.2

Battlefield 3 Experience (BF3)
SpartacusBadBoy9 November 2011
Epic, is truly the right word to describe this game. You feel like you are in a war zone. The smoke effects are one of the best I've ever seen in a game and how the sunlight causes you to squint your eyes due to the brightness feels so realistic. Another great detail that I thought was cool was the glare given off from a sniper scope in the bush, allowing me to counter snipe him just in time (this was in MP (Multiplayer) mode). I thought the Facebook style main page (battle log) was great way to manage contacting your friends and checking your stats against your mates (i think in mw3 (Modern Warfare 3) you have to pay for this added feature).

I don't know if this game will dominate MW3 but I have made up my mind just to buy this game alone. Perhaps maybe when Steam has a big ole sale and slashes the price down by half, then I'll purchase MW3 just to finish SP mode (Single player) and have a crack at the MP mode because one thing that I'll miss is the SND mode (Search and Destroy).

But driving a tank with your buddy and crushing your enemies with it, so much fun! I also like the squad base mechanics of the game. You work as a team and you will be ranking up and unlocking all those fantastic goodies in no time (game play tips: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-3/1210757p1.html ).

The SP (single player) mode has some great action pace sequences and some great memorable moments where you are left saying WOW! In the MP mode the load times take a bit longer to get into the game but all good things come to those who wait (maybe i need to upgrade my pc). I have noticed at times there are sound effects that are missing from both the SP and MP mode but its nothing major that a patch wouldn't fix. Now I played about 815 hours on MW2 since its release back in Nov '09 (most time ever spent on a FPS game) and if i beat that benchmark in less time, then I sure made a good decision going with BF3. Plus developers of the game listen to the community and have made improvements already to the battle log page. I'm sure there will be more patches to come as the game irons out the problems.

No doubt MW3 will be a great game as well but if you have limited time (or budget) to play 1 game, then let it be Battlefield 3.

Brilliant, Realistic, and Beautiful
TheMovieGuy21212 February 2012
Battlefield 3 is an outstanding game. The new engine Frostbite 2 is really amazing. It makes the graphics of the game detailed and impressive. I got this game all because of its multi-player because I heard many reviews and comments from friends all saying that the multi-player is great. The single-player or campaign of the game is okay. It's your old find terrorist and kill him plot but its still fun to play.

I have not really tried the co-op part of the game but i presume it is fun. The gameplay is very realistic and there are many heart pounding sequences especially when enemies are shooting at you with bullets nearby missing your head creating a whizzing sound and a blur on your screen. A comment I have to make is that the guns looks aren't very realistic :(. At some points of the game they sort of look like toys.

Overall Battlefield 3 is a great and impressive game and I strongly suggest buying it for it will be worth your money. I give it a 9.2

A Game for the Next 10 years
TheseusKhan12 January 2012
Thing is about this title. DICE did not hold back any bars on its engine. The engine is full out awesomeness, this has resulted in a lot of users who Think they can play the game fine getting problems. IMF a massive cult has brewed from the ones that think the game is broke, It is not broke its one of the most epic PC and console titles ever released.

Its been designed with the next 10 years of gaming in mind, New launch system, New Engine , New way of fighting. Dynamically.

Single player wise, its probably the best storyline since HL1. A lot of people don't bother to touch it, as they dislike SP all together in MP games. This however takes a story ARC much like Dr Who or The Venture Brothers. Once you get on the final level it feels so very epic. It gets abit confusing along the way but its designed to be.

Multi-player the game shines, Dynamic Warfare, this is the way things should be online. Its not static that's for sure, its not boxed warfare. EA + DICE are out doing themselves on removing hackers and unfair stats cheaters as well. This is the way of Battlefield complete fair play from day one. No one has the right to cheat the score boards. Problem is a lot of lessor skilled players are jumping right into a world of pro's and shouting hacker left right and centre.

Thing is this has brought PC gaming home. Not since CSS has every PC gamer been in one place at one time. Since then we all branched of to our other games. This game is one for the books and give it another 5 years it will be, Don't think DICE made their money and ran. They have never done that once, instead expect patch's DLC everything.

Frostbite 2 will run the next generation of games, MoH 2 and Command and Conquer we know about. Have you tried the new need for speed ? its epic completely back to real game standards.

Get this game legit already. Don't naysay till you have played it without problems. If you have problems they can be fixed, its the entire point of owning a PC. If you have problems on the consoles They will be fixed. You won't be ignored etc, everyday DICE is working on the title to make it even better then ever before.

Bring on the next 10 years because this decade will be that of BF3

Warning: Spoilers
The best game of the Battlefield franchise by no means, the netcode isn't realy good but the gameplay is really fun, the campaign isn't the best but you can play it. The multiplayer is where the game shines, you have a really wide array of weapons and gadgets you can use to kill enemies or destory buildings, I totally recommend, I wish it could be backwards compatible with the ps4 which it isn't.

Best Online Game Ever Made Rounded Up With An Epic Story
michael-892-526829 November 2011
Battlefield 3 is by far and away the best online experience commercially available and with the best story of the series it is the complete package. The story follows an army officer by the name of Blackburn and is being interrogated by two army superiors about some goings on. I won't give too much away but believe me when I say it is intriguing and you will want to see it through towards the end which is also epic. In an interesting twist for one level you play as a Russian by the name of Dima but it can't talk about that without delving heavily into spoilers the end of that section is also very shocking. Now the online my god the online is so epic I can assure you it will keep you hooked for months to come. It is even deeper than before and you are now able to customize your kits to your choosing and is the best around and will take some beating even by the so called 'Mighty MW3' and it also blows their online out of the water. If you care about you're FPS's hell even if you play games, even if you arn't that much of a gamer you need to get this and it WILL make you one. It does have some bugs but nothing to serious and certainly noting to keep you away from this amazing package.

Is it worth it?
steinthorstefansson1236 November 2011
Has most of us, i have been waiting for this game since it was announced. but when it's finally here, is it worth it? lets start with MP. It's amazing, the realistic battlefield combat action is totally worth it, and i often find myself looking at the scenery for minutes. the vehicles, the guns and the graphics are just beautiful. but it isn't flawless, for example, the air vehicles are not even, one jet got heat seekers and IR flares while the other one got nothing. but if you find yourself running through the battlefield towards the objective, just find yourself a vehicle. there is a co-op mod which i find pretty entertaining. Now the Sp (Singleplayer). the story mode is OK. i find it pretty similar to the CoD campaigns (MW), but we aren't here to talk about CoD. what battlefield does is that it gives you new experience every time you play it, even if it's awesome battles with your friend or co-op it always gives you something fresh, something new and lets not forget epic battles. this is definitely one of my favorite games of the year. i give 9.5, the single-player took it down a bit, but hey it's still awesome.

Multiplayer
newinhuman21 July 2013
Surely those who don't play this game will be missing out on one of the best titles in gaming ever. This is the perfect game to pick up and play even if you have no clue how to play an FPS (first person shooter). With a campaign that is certainly interesting it is mostly an instruction manual as to how to play with your equipment on different game modes as different classes on the multiplayer. If you can't enjoy the campaign try playing in CO-OP (cooperative mode) with another player. This game is a team based game and no one will complain if you're behind them watching what they do and providing equipment their class may not have access to.

The audience is mature and responsive so get a mic! You can also look for clans using the Battlelog website and matches and keep track of your progress. The competitive scene on other websites such as fraggednation still support this game if you're looking to getting serious. GL HF

I wanted to like it, but hey.
DustinRahksi11 November 2012
I've been playing Battlefield since 2004. BF 1942 was incredible, same with Bf Vietnam. But I lost interest with it and started playing others games. Battlefield bad company 2 comes out, and hole crap is it fun. I was now back into Battlefield. Then Battlefield 3 comes out, I was so excited. I should have known better to get that excited. The game was just average, sure the graphics were nice, but who cares about that. The single was pretty much a call of duty clone, gone were the likable and funny characters. The co-op was worthless. At fist I liked the multi-player, I had now become better than ever, but they had to rent servers. That means people are abusing their power. You do better than them they ban you from that server. Camping wasn't that big of a problem in Bc2, but now people hide in every corner with their motion sensor. The game feels like it caters to Call of duty players rather then old school BF players. I'll spare going into the details of why this game falls flat, in short, it's too damn easy.

With the decline of quality, I don't have high high hopes for the next game.

Incredible.

How on Earth is this rated lower than CoD?

It is far superior in every single way. If you don't yet own this game- buy it (I recommend it on BF3 or PC). The campaign, co-op and multi player is fantastic, I really recommend it to any shooter fan, it really puts the fun back into games- CoD sucks it out of you- it's over-intense, boring game play is pitiful compared to that of Battlefield.

Buy this game. It really impresses the way it runs, the animation, the vehicles, the social aspect of it. You can chose to play seriously with a group of 4, running around and just having a really intense, timeless game- or play for the fun of it, doing so-called 'Kamikaze' or getting jokey kills- it's up to you. Plus, it's great even just to go as a 'lone wolf'- sniping alone for example is still pretty great, although it's still more easy ans fun with others.

In summary, I strongly urge you to buy this game. Now!

Meh...
robbinsm213830 October 2011
I got this game because it was wildly anticipated. I recommend maybe getting it just to have it, but it really isn't that great. Campaign is extremely annoying. Checkpoints are 15 minutes of gameplay from each other so when you die, have fun doing it all over again. Another thing? If you get the game, make your brightness in the middle. It says to do it until you can barely see the image, but screw that. You cant see. The multiplayer? Crap. Honestly, it's really bad. Have fun going into a game, respawning in the dumbest places and having to run out into the battlefield every time just to get shot by a camping sniper on a building to start the process over again. Not fun. I'd say stick with Call of Duty. The graphics are amazing though, I must say. But other than that, you have typical guns like in every FPS but the enemies are not clearly pointed out to you. In call of duty you at least have a sense of where you're going. AND the Battlefield maps are TOO BIG. I takes you 10 minutes just to get back to where you wanted to be. It's realistic, I get it, but realistic doesn't always mean more fun. Hell, i'd say the more realistic a game is, the LESS fun it is. I had high hopes for this game, so I was quite disappointed. I'm sorry to all you Battlefield lovers out there, this is a joke.

Very impressive and enjoyable shooter.
johnnymacbest4 December 2011
I've never played the Battlefield series. Sure I downloaded a demo and got a few kicks out of it, but nothing really engaged me; save for the WW2 setting of one of the games. That's just about it as far as I'm concerned.

But now I'm into Battlefield 3 and by the looks of it, needless to say, I'm REALLY impressed of how realistic and hectic it really is. With exceptional sound, I felt like I was really in a war zone, fighting through terrorists with an arsenal of weapons and vehicles such as tanks and jets; though their use is sadly limited as I've always wanted more variety and things to do in a game. But in one action set piece, you get to drive a tank through a Middle Eastern city blowing up not only tanks, but the whole freakin' scenery along with the terrorist forces. I've always wanted to drive a tank in a video game(and maybe, possibly in real life) and blow the sh*t out of things. Thankfully, Battlefield 3 gave me that opportunity.

Speaking of scenery, the graphics are really great with lots of detail in the levels and billboard signs, all in various languages, giving the game a cultural feel amidst the backdrop of war, in the field and covertly. But I was a little disappointed that the single-player mode should've been a lot longer with more missions and variety of tasks to do in said missions. Hopefully, in the next game the developers can focus on making a more lengthy single-player mode with a better story and more choices on how to approach a mission with different tactics. Since this is my first time to the series and that I have enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of the game, I'm willing to get more games in the series but for now, I'll be itching to see what EA and co can do with the inevitable Battlefield 4.

Masterpiece abd definitely the best Battlefield forever !
lekkelmendi-1610227 March 2020
I'm very suprised with this game and thanks I'm spending my time to get enjoyed. Graphics are good. The guns were controllable and realistic. They can do a serious damage to an eneny with one or two bullets. The tank mission was entertaining where Miller goes with his tank and crew to go to Iran. I liked the part when he shoot all the tanks, taking down the PLR with machinegun and sometimes crushing them. I played the multiplayer mode and more special guns comparing the campaign and more missions to finish. This videogame is FPS(First person shooter), strategic how Solomon, Al-Bashir and Kaffarov they tried to set the world to a fire but they didn't because there was a soldier a symbol of peace, a soldiers who brought freedom to the world (Blackburn) and he took down Solomon than no one could take him down besides Blackburn. This is how an elite war goes on and ends up with victory. Best game to play it in Pc and PS3. I have played it 15 times.

My conclusion for this game : Realistic, entertaining, masterpiece, great, superb, cool, amazing. 10/10

Great stuff
85122218 July 2016
Greetings from Lithuania.

Love it or hate it, but "Battlefield 3" (2011) is a super FPS all around. Good story, although nothing original or brilliant, competitive multiplayer makes this a great fun overall.

Now i wasn't that much addicted to multiplayer, i "only" played for ~100 hours, but it was a fun experience, but better then recent "Call Of Duty" offerings. Graphics are gorgeous overall and overall production values were top notch, you have to own a good PC (still) to run it on full - i remember when i played single player back upon it's release, my jaw dropped at the beginning simply because of amazing presentation.

Overall, "Battlefield 3" is a must play shooter for all who loved great FPS. Just don't get addicted to multiplayer, there is a real life waiting outside :).

This was my introduction to not only the series, but also to a more epic, larger-scale competitive first person shooter. During the beta, I felt overwhelmed and thought I'd never get the hang of it. With the encouragement of my buddies, I came to love this game. It is so epic and engaging!

Battlefield is best when it doesn't ape the competition
Pepe-arbiter11 January 2021
Battlefield 3 is a solid military shooter. Gorgeous visuals, an amazing sound design, solid voice acting, and high levels of polish. The multiplayer is some of the best in the modern military shooter genre, and the modes and variety of maps are awesome.

The campaign makes one wonder what the point even was for DICE to try however. It's embarrassing whenever it tries to copy Call of Duty, it's like that wannabe kid who tries to ape the popular kid but looks like a dork. It's too on rails, lacks interactivity, and the story is uninteresting and lacks stakes and likable or interesting characters.

We have a war tomorrow...
evan_dow29 July 2021
I played through the single player campaign on hard I got the achievements and a job well done all round.

You fight a Russian warlord in this game and also an Arab villain.

The game is orientated a bit around the city of Tehran of Iran. You fight fierce gun battles at times but then you also have parts of the game when you fly a jet aircraft and maneuver a tank.

Play the game on hard you might die more often but it isn't as if you are going to be held down time and time again if you play differently and defensively.

People were complaining that there has been no Battlefield game based on the war on terrorism. Well, we are all wrong. Battlefield 3 is your ticket to war on terrorism warfare.

Just buy it because it is really cheap nowadays.

Battlefield 3
ajeweloflife6 April 2013
now this is a really good game for people to start off with if they want to get a way form COD. i would do what ever it takes to get this game cause it rocks like kicks ass. i mean graphics, sound, multiplayer, and a little of the campaign. i mean like it's kinda like COD but dosen't seem like,it at the same time. cause the way the characters are not the way i saw it coming. even now you'll want to know more about the story, now enough of campaign.

now on to the killer multiplayer which makes COD very sorry in so many different like the graphics, wow kicks ass on pc but dosen't look the same on consoles though. but the multiplayer introduces new elements than COD has. like team work and strategy thats the success to what games should have like brink for an example. thats a great way for team work in a game. but there's a lot of things to talk about but my review will give this game a 9.75 for me the reason why it dosen't get a full 10 is because of campaign. but the game is fantastic and outrageous at times in the multiplayer.

so this is my opinion,so good luck on the battlefield and get ready for bf4(battledield4)

More Bugs then Angela Landsburys YAHOO!
guyver856 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Battlefield 3, the highly anticipated competitor to the Call of Duty series. What should have been a beautiful game, which consisted of a great single player campaign, co-op campaign and multi player experience is shadowed by the over-whelming amount of bugs.

Examples include:

MULTIPLAYER: Random Spawn points, random enough to have your back facing an enemy; Transparent Walls, countless times have I been killed because my feet were sticking out through a wall.

The in-ability too freely switch between party chat && game chat. This means no communication between squad members.

Joining a game with friends and magically being enemies, it's like a daytime soap.

CAMPAIGN: Worst A.I ever, I have seen my allies walk right past an enemy, and as soon as I was within range, I was obliterated. Kept expecting them to shake hands.

On the A.I note, when playing on 'Hard' difficulty, enemy units will magically know where you are, no matter what stealth methods you use.

The story is a dull and boring re-telling of both Modern Warfare 2 & Black-Ops, I kept saying to myself, 'I hope this is the last mission' (which started at mission 4).

I know that the game is in the early stages of it's release, under 2 weeks, but a majority of bugs should've been fixed by during the beta stage. I have given this title a score of 3, on only 2 factors I enjoy, the music during the campaign is alright, could have been better and the amount of customization you can do to your online character. This game could be excellent, if the bugs are sorted out. If you are thinking of getting this game, make sure you have friends who will play the game the way it's meant to be played, it's the only time I've enjoyed this game.

Compensation Battlefield 3
AntonioLenciano19 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The campaign gameplay of Battlefield 3 is amazing. The problems start in the details.

Starting with the advantages, it is really necessary to distinguish the specificity of the game during the campaign, which is determined by high dynamics, spontaneity, interestingly selected missions that are very diverse. In this respect, Dice made sure that each mission was different from each other and presented a different element of the game.

The campaign can be really addictive, individual missions are swallowed up like successive episodes of your favorite series, ending with hunger.

As far as this element is concerned, the game exudes freshness, a sense of bond and brotherhood with your team - practically the entire campaign is carried out in the company, there are no missions performed alone.

One of my favorite moments in the campaign is the fragment in which we have to hide from the jet fire, conquered by intense music.

Basically, there are quite a few fragments to remember, as well as, unfortunately, there are many bugs and glich.

Graphically, the title is also not at a high level, although the graphics are not ugly.

The play of lights, the dirt of war and the devastation of the locations we are in are presented in a very good way.

They are limping character models that do not look very good, textures could be much better, or even cut scenes that look artificial.

While the behavior of our team members is definitely a plus - the characters move dynamically, lively, cooperate with the player, the enemy's artificial intelligence leaves much to be desired. Apart from advancing and attacking everything that moves, it does not show much initiative in this field.

The multiplayer system has been designed much better. Some maps are really big, the damage model has been done decently, and our virtual "battlefield three" has been given an extensive arsenal of various toys - from weapons to armored vehicles and jets.

The final rating, considering the weak single player mode and the great multiplayer model, is - 8/10.

Boring...
hugofranca-922-3177886 November 2011
Nothing new here, just another classic-style war FPS. Way overrated, it just doesn't deserve the attention.

The single player is boring, monotonous and it fails to engage you. I spent the whole campaign waiting for something new which led me to a huge disappointment. Sure the multi-player can be fun, but the feel you get is that you're playing an expansion pack from another title.

I've played all Call of Duty series, Battlefield 2, Crysis, Crysis 2, FEAR series, Rage, Singularity, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Quake series and many other great FPS games, the list could go on. FPS's are my favorite genre. Where the other games succeeded to keep me going, this failed.

The graphics and the detail of realism is pretty impressive, being the sole positive aspects of this game.

If you're a FPS war veteran, skip it.

So Focused on Being Realistic that it Forgot to be Fun
SquigglyCrunch12 May 2016
Battlefield 3 follows a soldier who tells the story of how he and his squad fought against a terrorist group called the PLR, while also trying to undercover a handful of conspiracies.

The plot is actually presented in a pretty interesting way. At the beginning of each mission your character is being interrogated, then you play through the mission in which that character is describing. Sometimes, when the main characters don't know what happened, you get to play a mission as a character like some of the terrorists and see how the story actually went. It's an interesting idea that I appreciated, as it feels like it's actually trying to tell a story and not just make you shoot as many people as possible in a few hours.

The gameplay is decent. It's as simple as every other first-person shooter ever, so it's not hard to pick up. Unfortunately, my biggest problem with the game was in it's realism. I like realism and all, but when it's realistic to the point of sometimes unplayable that's when it's just hard to enjoy. So many levels were spent in almost complete darkness, and you only receive a small light in one of these levels. I often found myself believing someone to be on my team only to be stabbed in the back by them a minute later, which was very frustrating. Does the military seriously not give their soldiers flashlights or anything when they go into a nighttime mission? I find that hard to believe personally. Most of these dark missions were spent following someone else around. Sure, you could see the 'follow' icon above their heads, but it takes away from the feel of you being in the game. I was just chasing some guy that I couldn't even see most of the time. Very often it was almost impossible to see the opponents too. I found myself shooting randomly in the hopes of hitting someone more often than actually aiming down the sights and shooting people. I often found myself dying for reasons I didn't even know, too. Once, I even just fell over and died. No sounds of flying bullets, nothing. I just lost the will to live I guess.

Easily the worst part of the game were the vehicle missions. Controlling a tank was frustrating and un-fun, and flying in a fighter jet was incredibly boring. The tanks especially bothered me, as I often had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. I'd move to the objective, then the rest of the tank drivers would yell at me to back up, so I would. Then we'd just sit there and nothing would happen, so I moved back to the objective point and everyone would yell at me again. This happened a handful of times, and again, it was just frustrating and unclear as to what I was supposed to be doing.

Overall Battlefield 3 was okay. The story is interesting, but the gameplay is okay. It's not overly complicated, but the vehicle and nighttime missions were extremely un-fun. It had it's moments and levels that I did enjoy for the most part, but considering I didn't enjoy more than 1/3 of the game I find my rating to be very fair. I didn't play the online simply because the campaign didn't catch my interest. The story really is the best part of the game, and without that in the online I'll probably just get more frustrated and waste more time. In the end I wouldn't recommend this game, it honestly wasn't worth my time at all. The handful of satisfying times I killed someone with a shotgun (and dang, shooting those at people is satisfying) weren't worth the extensive amount of time spent running and shooting blindly in the dark.

First before everyone starts to think that im just a cod fanboy let me get this straight i am not just a cod fanboy I've played battlefield 4 and i LOVE IT. Second im a kingdom hearts fanboy and this is just my solid review for this game. Campaign-0 why: its boring! I did not find this campaign to be interesting at all!! Multiplayer-1 why: low bad maps, dull weapons just not action packed for me i found the multiplayer experience to be dull and boring. Graphics-1 nothing compared to cods graphics. sorry its just not. over all 1/10-horrible.

Other notes-None its an awful game just get battlefield 4 if you're a battlefield fan. This game is garbage compared to battlefield 4 and cod.
