Director Todd Phillips insists he won’t be making Joker 3, and that Joker: Folie A Deux will bring his take on the story to an end.
Director Todd Phillips is back on the promotional trail, as the release date looms for his high-profile sequel, Joker: Folie A Deux. The sequel to the billion dollar, Oscar-winning Joker movie brings Joaquin Phoenix back to the title role, joined this time by Lady Gaga as well.
Phillips sprung to profile off the back of his comedy work, with movies such as The Hangover trilogy and Road Trip. The jump to Joker was a surprise, but there’s little denying it paid off. Still, in a new conversation with Variety, Phillips has been suggesting that those looking for a Joker 3 are likely to be disappointed.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Hugh Jackman is set to star in Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and I was not prepared for the synopsis. Let’s get right to it.
Based on Leonie Swann’s international bestseller, the film follows George Hardy (Jackman), “a shepherd who loves his sheep and raises them only for their wool. Every night, he reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand, never suspecting that not only can they understand, but they argue for hours afterwards about whodunnit. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The local cop Tim Derry, on the other hand, has never solved a serious crime in his life, so the sheep conclude they will have to solve it themselves, even if it means...

The Masked Singer Season 11 Judges’ Net Worth (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Fox TV’s The Masked Singer is a unique reality singing show where celebs compete against one another, but there is a fun twist. While performing, they wear fancy costumes and face masks to conceal their identities. The singing reality series is back with its Season 11, and the first episode premiered earlier this month. There had been a change in the judges’ panel this year as fan favorite Nicole Scherzinger did not return alongside Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, and Robin Thicke. Rita Ora has taken her place.
The fans were initially upset and worried about Nicole’s exit from the show. But it was later reported that Nicole was busy with the revival of Andrew Llyod Webber’s Sunset Boulevard in London’s West End. It began in September, which coincided with the reality show’s filming. As a result,...

Hollywood star Bradley Cooper is open to reprising his role as Phil in the fourth installment of the ‘Hangover’ film series. On a recent episode of ‘The New Yorker Radio Hour’ podcast, Cooper spoke to host David Remnick about his directorial efforts, including ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Maestro’, and pivoting to more dramatic roles, reports Variety.
Remnick then asked Cooper: “Are you done with fun? In other words, if another kinda fun comic role came along, it was three months of your life, it’s not ‘Hangover 5’ but something of a similar spirit.”
“Well, I would do ‘Hangover 5,’” Cooper responded. “It would be ‘Hangover 4’ first, but yea You would do that in a flash? Not just to pay the bills,” Remnick asked.
“I would probably do ‘Hangover 4’ in an instant,” Cooper said. “Just because I love Todd (Phillips), I love Zach (Galifianakis), I love Ed (Helms) so much, I probably would.

Bradley Cooper has come a long way since his early days as an R-rated comedy star. He’s racked up four Oscar nominations for his acting work (and another five as a producer and writer), and his upcoming Netflix passion project “Maestro” could be a major player in the upcoming award season. But Cooper’s highbrow success hasn’t lessened his affection for the comedy franchise that helped make him a superstar.
Appearing on “The New Yorker Radio Hour” to promote “Maestro,” Cooper revealed that he would be eager to return for a fourth “Hangover” movie if his co-stars Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms and director Todd Phillips returned.
“I would probably do ‘Hangover 4’ in an instant,” Cooper said. “Just because I love Todd, I love Zach, I love Ed so much, I probably would.”

When Fast Five came out in the summer of 2011, it was a smash hit. While people expected the franchise to do well, no one thought that the film would be so big that it would turn what had, up to then, been a series of glorified B-movies into the next major tentpole franchise. To capitalize on the film’s success, Fast & Furious 6 (whose on-screen title is simply Furious 6) was immediately put into production. Director Justin Lin and star Vin Diesel had already planned an epic conclusion for what they hoped would be the next film before Fast Five came out. With their sequel now a reality, Lin and his crew opted to make this an even bigger film than its predecessor, with their home studio, Universal, now granting them the kind of tentpole movie budgets reserved for the 007 and Mission: Impossible franchises, as Fast Five had...

“A Man Called Otto” (Sony/$14.99) was a flop as an adult-appeal awards contender, but it came out on top of VOD charts the week before the Oscars. Challenging its dominance is a strong performance by “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” (Crunchyroll/$9.99), which took #1 at Google Play while “Otto” led at Vudu and iTunes.
Netflix has an eye-popping nine theatrical releases on its top 10, including six studio sequels. Among those are four separate “Hunger Games” franchise entries, despite those films spending years in constant basic-cable rotation.
Neither “Otto” nor “Dragon” spent much time at a premium price. Sony quickly dropped the price of “Otto” from its initial $19.99. “Dragon,” from the Sony-owned Japanese anime label Crunchyroll, was introduced as a $9.99 purchase. It opened in U.S. theaters last August, the same week that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village” opened to over $10 million.

Plot: After his construction company shuts down, a down and out Mike (Channing Tatum) accepts an offer from a wealthy divorcee (Salma Hayek) to fly to London and mount a spectacular stage show.
Review: Magic Mike’s Last Dance is the Staying Alive to the original’s Saturday Night Fever. It’s wholly unnecessary and loses all of the grit, edge and charm that made the original (and its fun sequel) such a sensation. Director Steven Soderbergh has made a tame third entry in the franchise that borders on prudish. We’re supposed to think we’re watching something risqué and naughty, but this is a movie that avoids strip clubs altogether and climaxes in a finale that seems cribbed from the Magic Mike Live stage show and has no nudity whatsoever, with none of the dancers even daring to wear g-strings. HBO Max may (hopefully) be done randomly pulling original series from the service, but there are still a number of TV shows and films due to leave HBO Max in January as part of the regularly scheduled shuffling.
Multiple seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” will leave HBO Max on Jan. 3, so get those final binge-watches in Asap. And the beloved WB series “Everwood” is due to depart on Jan. 21 if you feel like seeing what young Chris Pratt was up to in the early 2000s.
In terms of movies leaving HBO Max, there are quite a lot. “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” turns into a ghost on Jan. 20, while Jon M. Chu’s delightful musical “In the Heights” leaves on Jan. 27.
Noteworthy films leaving HBO Max on Jan. 31 include the first three “John Wick” movies, the first three “Jurassic Park” films, the first two installments in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise,...

Arizona will hand out up to 125 million a year in tax breaks to Hollywood, joining the ranks of just a handful of states with nine-figure caps in their incentive programs.
Under a program that Gov. The Arizona Motion Picture Production Program will start at 75 million in 2023 and grow to 125 million by 2025.
To qualify, producers must use an Arizona production facility or, if the project is primarily filmed on location, must mostly shoot and conduct pre- and postproduction in the state. Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro returns with his first film since 2017’s “The Shape of Water” with a movie of a different sort. “Nightmare Alley” is an adaptation of the William Lindsey Gresham novel of the same name, and finds del Toro working without supernatural elements for the first time in his career. Production initially began in January 2020, but Covid shut down filming in March. Resuming filming in September 2020, the film finished up in December of 2020, and is now a bona fide Best Picture Oscar nominee.

Since working together on The Hangover Part III, director Todd Phillips, editor Jeff Groth and director of photography Lawrence Sher have become something of a creative dream team. The three honed their collaboration skills on the last film in the blockbuster comedy trilogy, followed by the dark comedy War Dogs. But Warner Bros.’ Joker, an intense character study of the comic book villain (and their third collaboration), is by far the most complex endeavor they have made together. It is a film that both Groth and Sher believe is very much a sum of its collaborative parts.

You cut the film as consecutively as possible so you could see the progression of the character while you were still editing. Can you talk a little bit about that?
With a movie called “Joker,” you know quite solidly where you’re going to land at the end. So it was about how are we getting and moving forward to that? It’s [about] the progression from beginning to end. It starts in one particular place and ends in another; we always look and kind of see where we were in our timeline of Arthur [transforming into] Joker.
You were also able to cut the movie with some of the score rather than temp track — did that make a difference to the editing process?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment in Disney’s swashbuckling franchise, became the lowest-earning entry in the series since the original when it was released in 2017, which was perhaps a sign that audiences weren’t as interested in the adventures of Jack Sparrow as they had been for the last decade and a half. However, a box office haul of almost $800m showed that the brand was still capable of turning a profit.
Since Disney now seemingly dominates every corner of popular culture, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has grossed over $4.5bn at the box office to date, there was little chance that the crew of the Black Pearl would ever really disappear from our screens. In fact, a reboot has been discussed for a while now, which may or may not feature Johnny Depp, but seemed to be in a state...

Todd Phillips’ Joker is a polarizing picture to say the least. Having only been screened at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals, the original origin story has drawn up as much controversy for its excessive violence as it has acclaim for its lead performance from Joaquin Phoenix.
We Got This Covered had the opportunity to speak with editor Jeff Groth – who’s worked with Phillips on both War Dogs and The Hangover Part III –about the world’s reaction to the film thus far, as well as Phoenix’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime, among other topics.

You’ve probably seen some of Craig Mazin‘s films even if you haven’t realized it. The screenwriter was behind “The Hangover Part II” (2011), “The Hangover Part III” (2013), “Identity Thief” (2013) and “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” (2016). All of his screen credits, in fact, had have been in film until now. He made his big television debut with the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” chronicling the 1986 nuclear plant disaster in northern Ukrainian Ssr, and is currently the odds-on favorite to win the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Writing Emmy.
Since this is a real event that had such wide-ranging effects, getting the facts straight is of the utmost importance, but “Chernobyl” thrives in its balance between factual evidence and emotional beats. And these beats aren’t only prompted by the show’s striking visual presentation, but by its depiction of the disaster’s long-lasting implications and its character-driven nature. For instance, by...

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the final trailer for director Todd Phillips Joker.
The film will be in theaters nationwide October 4.
Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Once upon a time, Memorial Day weekend was circled on every movie theater chain’s calendar as a critical weekend, marking the start of the summer blockbuster season with the release of films what would end up on end-of-year top 10 box office charts.
But, while still potentially a good spot to release a hit film, Memorial Day is no longer the pivotal moneymaker it once was. Back in 2013, a Memorial Day weekend combined record was set with “Fast & Furious 6” leading the box office to $314 million. But since then, there hasn’t been a weekend that has ranked among the top five in Memorial Day box office history. The highest combined gross for the holiday in the past five years is 2014, when “X-Men: Days of Future Past” was the No. 1 film and $231 million was the final count.
This last weekend, Disney’s “Aladdin” had a strong opening with a $116 million 4-day weekend.

Forget “Us.” You’d be hard-pressed to find something more frightening than HBO’s full trailer for its upcoming miniseries “Chernobyl.”
Unlike the teaser trailer released a few weeks ago, the new full-length trailer (watch above), which dropped Thursday, offers a closer look at the performances at the center, and the devastation and aftermath caused by the unimaginable 1986 nuclear accident in Ukraine (then part of the Ussr).
“I’m pleased to report that the situation in Chernobyl is stable,” Boris Shcherbina (Stellan Skarsgard), the Soviet deputy prime minister and chairman of the high commission on the accident, reassures a room full of worried faces (and himself?) in the beginning of the clip. “In terms of radiation, I’m told it’s the equivalent of a chest X-ray.”
“No!” Valery Legasov (Jared Harris), the Soviet chemist leading the investigation into the explosion, exclaims. “Chernobyl is on fire. And every atom of...

“You are dealing with something that has never occurred on this planet before.”
Those are the chilling words that open the first trailer for HBO’s upcoming miniseries “Chernobyl,” which premieres Monday May 6 at 9/8c, the network announced Monday. (Watch the trailer above.)
Written by Craig Mazin and starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Waston, the five-part series chronicles the catastrophic 1986 nuclear accident that devastated Ukraine (then part of the Soviet Union), diving into how and why it happened, and the men and women who fought to make sure it will never happen again. The short but tense teaser offers enough heartbreaking glimpses of the “before,” “during” and “after” of the disaster to definitely whet your appetite.

When the standalone Joker movie was first announced, a lot of people didn’t really know what to make of it – and understandably so – with the film existing in its own separate continuity from the ongoing escapades of the Dceu. And despite an abundance of set photos and videos making their way onto the web, it still remains to be seen whether or not star Joaquin Phoenix and War Dogs helmsman Todd Phillips can really pull this thing off.
One person who certainly thinks they can though is The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. Speaking to The IMDb Show recently, the fan favorite actor had nothing but good things to say about his old friend Phoenix, telling the outlet that he’s going to kill it in the role.

With the Todd Phillips-helmed Joker movie still over a year away, many aren’t sure what to make of this upcoming standalone outing, and while plenty of fans responded well to their first look at Joaquin Phoenix as the famed DC villain, others have their doubts.
This division in public opinion is evidenced in the range of responses to the latest images of Arthur Fleck sporting the classic Joker costume. On the one hand, a lot of fans are very much on board with next year’s release in general, and Phoenix’s take on the title character in particular:

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s Joker movie has started shooting. Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Joker,” starring Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro, and directed, produced and co-written by Oscar nominee Todd Phillips.

Saturday Am Update: After an estimated $35.6 million, Disney and Lucasfilms's Solo: A Star Wars Story is looking at a three-day weekend around $93-95 million and a four-day holiday performance anywhere from $108-115 million. This is well below the anticipated weekend range, which is sure to inspire conversation surrounding the amount of competition in the marketplace not to mention the film's proximity to the previous Star Wars release as well as the summer release compared to the December dates for Disney's previous three Star Wars features. Meanwhile, Deadpool 2 is dipping a bit more than expected, pulling in an estimated $12.1 million on Friday and looking at a $43.4 million three-day signaling a 65% drop from opening weekend. The film is expected to bring in nearly $55 million for the four-day weekend. There’s nothing like a little “Star Wars” to help turn low numbers around: “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is expected to break the record for the biggest four-day opening on Memorial Day weekend with at least $140 million.

That’s a huge leap from last year, when the box office suffered the worst Memorial Day weekend results since the turn of the century, as “Baywatch” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” failed to draw many moviegoers.
Despite its record-breaking weekend potential, a $140 million opening for “Solo” would be the lowest opening total for a Disney-released “Star Wars” film — and will still be enough to break the Memorial Day Weekend record set by “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,...

Scarlett Johansson headlines Rough Night finally arrives in the UK. Here's our review...
At what point does a hen do become a hen don't? In Rough Night, the new comedy thriller from the makers of Broad City, it's around the time that a cheeky night of drinking and novelty penis props turns to involuntary manslaughter, and things quickly escalate into a mashup of Very Bad Things and Bridesmaids.
Jess (Scarlett Johansson) is the bride-to-be; a driven senatorial candidate who's taking a weekend off from her campaign for her bachelorette party. Her college friends Alice (Jillian Bell), Blair (Zoë Kravitz) and Frankie (Ilana Glazer), and her Australian friend Pippa (Kate McKinnon) converge on Miami for a boozy, drug-fuelled weekend away that quickly spirals out of control after the accidental death of a male stripper in their party house.

Consider this a fairly odd news story. In fact, it might be the oddest in some time. Yesterday, word spread throughout the web that a film about DC super villain The Joker was brewing over at Warner Brothers. Yes, the clown prince of crime is getting his own spinoff. Now, that could sound pretty cool on its own, but this is coming off of Jared Leto showing up to mostly indifference in the underwhelming Suicide Squad, all while DC and the WB figure out what to do with their superhero universe. Wait until you hear the details though, as they just might blow your mind. Apparently, the powers that be have Martin Scorsese on board to produce this Joker tale, while Todd Phillips is co-writing a script with Scott Silver and eyeing the director’s chair. Your mind is blown, I’m sure. Scorsese involved with a comic book property?...

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (Disney) was an easy #1 for the holiday weekend. And considering domestic franchise fatigue, and much stronger foreign results, it’s hardly a failure. (The same can’t be said for the stumbling Paramount and “Baywatch.”)
However, both fell short of even managed expectations. And with some really ugly drops among holdovers, one of the weakest holiday weekends in decades — and easily, the worst in adjusted grosses for the century.
One reason is Memorial Day is no longer the must-have date for theaters, but that’s been the case for years. So it’s no excuse for the overall weakness, which suggests some deep-rooted issues that continue to plague the industry.
The Top 10
1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Disney) New – Cinemascore: A-; Metacritic: 39; Est. budget: $230 million
$62,179,000 in 4,276 theaters; PTA (per theater average): $14,451,000; Cumulative: $62,179,000

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
While the new movies reigned at the box office this past weekend, both Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven (Sony) and the animated Storks (Warner Bros.) didn’t fare nearly as well as our projections, both falling short by about $10 million. The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, fared decently with $34.7million, which is about the average for Washington’s films, but the fourth highest opening for a Western after last year’s The Revenant, the animated Rango, and Cowboys and Aliens. Storks’ $21.3 million opening wasn’t great compared to other animated September releases with Sony still holding the September opening record with Hotel Transylvania 2, but it should continue to do well with no other animated movies opening for another month.

From Captain America: Civil War through to Ghostbusters, what did we learn from summer blockbuster season 2016?
If it wasn’t for summer blockbuster season it would be a nightmare for Den of Geek to maintain our chic pale complexions. We’ve seen so many films this summer that we look like porcelain dolls (the shine comes from popcorn grease).
It was never our intention to learn anything other than imperative information about Jason Bourne’s backstory. None the less, 2016 had proven to be such an interesting year for cinema that we couldn’t help but be struck by the following observations.
A quick note before we dig in. We’re counting summer blockbuster season as March to the end of August. We know that’s not how seasons work, but that feels like a tidy set of dates to use to capture the films that are part of the mid-year blockbuster flurry.

"My whole life, even now, I'm attracted to mayhem," Todd Phillips is saying, feet resting on a spotless coffee table inside his spotless office on the Warner Bros. film-studio lot in Burbank, him having turned this lifelong attraction into so much money you can't believe it.
Take the three Hangover movies, from 2009 to 2013, all of which Phillips directed and two of which he co-wrote. Altogether, they've raked in $1.4 billion, with lunacy galore, chain-smoking monkeys, unexpected face tattoos, roofie-puffed marshmallows and so forth, ad nauseam. Crazy stuff, none of which would...

Back in 2013, the movie-rental kiosk company Redbox announced the launch of a new video subscription service, called Redbox Instant, to much fanfare and excitement within the confines of the Redbox corporate headquarters. A joint venture with Verizon, the service was intended as an alternative to industry leader Netflix, and proved to be exactly as popular as a business venture that shutters its doors 18 months later would lead you to believe. It’s unclear what combination of factors contributed to its failure, but presumably a lack of interest in being able to stream The Hangover Part III played a role.
But the company now thinks it may have finally figured out how to crack this whole “streaming” business, and is even thinking about trading in the rabbit ears on top of its old rotary-dialed television and getting one of them fancy blinking box things. Variety reports Redbox Digital, a ...
