- A womanizing janitor pretends to be a psychologist in order to impress a sophisticated woman, but gets trapped in his lie when he agrees to treat her sister who needs a private investigator more than a therapist.
- Gabard works as a janitor at a strip mall where he spends his breaks chasing women by pretending to be a professional who makes a lot of money. Because he's got access to a costume shop, he tries his hand at pretending to be a chef, a military man, a surgeon, a pilot and anything else that would impress a young, beautiful lady.
One of Gabard's go-to schemes is to impersonate an FBI agent. However, changing identities so often has a downside: when Gabard does score a date, he sometimes can't remember which identity sealed the deal. Worse, he can't ever bring a date back to his parents' cramped house - not just because he's got a small room, but because his parents are two of the grossest, most intrusive people he knows. Instead, when Gabard needs a place to hook-up for some romance, he claims whatever space is available through his best friend, Leo, a real estate agent, although not always with Leo's knowledge.
Gabard gets tripped up when he meets Maffi, a doctor who works around the strip mall. On a whim, he decides to tell her he's a psychologist, which she starts to believe after some smooth talking. As Gabard presses for a date, Maffi makes a deal involving her sister whom she thinks suffers from paranoia. If Gabard is willing to treat her for this perceived problem, then Maffi would certainly consider going on a date with him.
Gabard jumps at the opportunity, finding a vacant office nearby where he can play out this scheme. His most immediate challenge is with a professional colleague who works in the same building. Mackenzie happens to be a real psychologist. By far, Gabard's biggest problem becomes the assignment itself. Maffi's sister, Lyne, may be paranoid but she's not crazy. She's truly being followed by someone. Since Gabard doesn't know what he's doing as a doctor, he figures he may as well help her however he can, which means tracking down this stalker and getting some answers.
The stalker turns out to be very bad news. He's part of a gang who robbed a jewelry store but lost some of the jewels because of Lyne's ex-boyfriend's involvement. These bad guys think Lyne has the jewels. What Gabard expected to be a simple obsessive stalker case turns into a full-on, high stakes cat-and-mouse game with gangsters playing shoot to kill.
Lyne doesn't want Maffi worrying about her so she claims her therapy with Gabard is going well. Maffi, then, is willing to give Gabard a shot. As crazy and dangerous as Lyne's situation gets for Gabard, he thinks it's worth it in order to get closer to Maffi. Unfortunately, Maffi moves slowly on the dating scene. She wants to meet Gabard's parents before their relationship gets physical. This is particularly a problem for Gabard because he's lied about his parents being professionals. Now Gabard's gotta think of a new scheme to make it all work out, which may end up being just as hard as staying alive.
