the end sucks, don't waste your time

Warning: Spoilers
Wanna watch a good romanian movie? Skip this one...Better watch Philanthropic; Poker; At money, head, bone; Wedding in Basarabia; Hi!What do you do?; Websitestory; Love Sick; 17 - A story about destiny(TV series). I would enjoy a good romanian movie but I don't seem to find any... we have a special talent to finish badly every movie we make... romanian movies and Japanese horror movies are the most likely movies to leave you a bitter aftertaste because you realize that you lost precious minutes of your life with a movie that doesn't deserve it... I watch romanian films on a regular basis, at least the titles that seem interesting...generally I am disappointed...I can count on the fingers from both hands literally the ones that have left a good impression on me...Loverboy is not one of those movies, unfortunately I have to draw this conclusion, I had high expectations for this movie and in the end I saw only a few sex scenes not even very good ones, just some cruel brutal intercourse, and some bare tits and ass from under the sheets...really disappointing...the only scenes that I liked are the ones with Vely and Luke living together and the beginning of their love, a love between a teenage punk and a kind-hearted young girl abused by her father...at one point I thought something changed in Luke, like he became a better person and begin to care for her...but I was quite wrong I guess, because it seems that he finally chooses to do what he does best...he does his job even if he feels something for her he chooses the job and money over love, becoming a monster even though he said at one point he doesn't want to be one...he is good at seducing young girls and then manipulate them to become call girls and they end up dead or just destroying their lives...or that does not change even when he finds a girl that he really likes...That really ruined the whole movie for me...Everything would make a better finale than that...

Not a movie with nice backgrounds, but a movie about the sad truth.
andreeahoroiu29 April 2021
This may sound as a defence against other reviews that may not understand the life in the country that this movie was produced. A movie doesn't have to be nice or have nice backgrounds. A movie needs to convey a message, this movie represents the reality in wich prostitution is born in Romania, it is not supposed to be nice, it is ugly, sad, desolate. The scenes are dirty, resembling poor villages, people in the lower class of society, bad music and desperate humans. I don't expect the western culture to understand it but saying it is bad because it is doing and showing what it was supposed to do and show is just wrong. It is a great movie? No. Absolutely not. Is it a good movie to take a peak inside the horrible process of prostitution that starts in the poor villages of Romania? (the manipulation, the blindness to danger in full sight, emotional blackmailing and more) yes. The movie was low budget and part of a campaign against human trafficking in Romania.

I expected them to do better... disappointing

LoverBoy – TRASH IT (C+) After watching George Pistereanu & Ada Condeescu debut performance in critically acclaimed Romanian movie" Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier". I was really eager to watch George Pistereanu in LoverBoy in an unconventional love story. Before watching this I didn't knew it stars Ada Condeescu as well which was a pleasant surprise. But sadly an unconventional and sensitive concept about a young boy luring young girls for selling them in human trafficking and using them as prostitutes is amateurishly filmed. The boy pimping his girlfriend as prostitute is a riveting topic but it's not understandable how none of the girls ever mention him to police. He is good-looking for sure but not worth ruining your life as prostitutes. Anyways ,George Pistereanu know how to plays reckless teen as he has already done in" Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier", the difference is only he has longer hair now and he is out of prison. Ada Condeescu is not your typical hot girl but she is surely exotic. Their chemistry and sex scenes are the only good part of the movie I believe otherwise the movie is pretty tedious and nor hard-core or soft-core. With an incomplete ending, the only thing you remember is George Pistereanu and Ada Condeescu hot&heavy. I hope their next venture won't be sooo disappointing.

The 2'nd bad movie i've ever seen
Vain-Adryanne13 February 2012
One of the worst movies i've ever seen. I understand that this movies don't have good budget but that doesn't explain the bad script, poor dialog, the awful end and stupid story. I don't get why people make movies if they don't have a good plot for it. It's a wanna be realistic movie but honestly a movie have to be nice and the scenes must have a nice background to make somebody want to watch. This movie hurts my eyes and my ears...the music. I was just stupefied and watched it to see how bad Romanian movies are. So please, don't watch this and don't give it good reviews just cause it's a Romanian movie. After I saw it my first though was...God,I gotta write a good script to make a nice Romanian movie

A must for any man, any Romanian, any "client"
florin112312 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I wrote this review before reading any other.

It's a must (to watch) for a Romanian, for any man, especially for any (potential or real) prostitute client, for any girl too young at mind, too poor, too far from school, too good looking for the neighborhood. It remembers what my school teacher told me: beauty in art it's not beauty in life. The movie really turned me on.I have seen it once, I do not know if I am man enough to watch it twice. It's not the happy -end stile, like 'Taken".It's very realistic, in the sense of the the famous Italian-neorealism.

I know well the location where it was filmed But I walked only at the surface of that land. It's a poor and rather uninhabited county, economically dead, lost somewhere between the end of Danube and the Black Sea.I used to go for sport fishing there. I did not realize what was strange there, above the solitude. Now I realize: I have seen characters like in the movie, but no girls or young and good looking women. But at news, once-twice/year , there are told stories about young girls missing, never to be found, or found drowned in the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Station Channel. The movie tells about an horrible form of manipulation, changing and twisting personality , that I find worse then physical or psychological violence. It's a sad story. The movie made me feel sick, like "Se7en".

A plus for the physical love scenes, absolutely realistic, equal to any other famous ones (maybe at the intensity of Last Tango in Paris, or Rocco And His Brothers). A+ for the main female character, B for the (lover)boy; must improve his talking, sounds artificial and obscurely.

not another love story
dan-lungescu23 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those Romanian movies that seem to address only a Romanian audience. People from abroad may perceive it as having an incomplete ending or even as being an unconventional love story. No, it is not a love story, at least from the main hero's perspective. It is rather a story about „prostitution industry", explaining how young women get trapped into such a slavery and eventually they are killed (it happened to the first girl but I'm afraid it is quite difficult to make the right connections between her and prostitution). *** One may have the big image only at the end of the movie. Until then it looks like a boring collection of scenes not related to each other; nevertheless there is a good solid plot. As a weakness, the story is not quite convincing and it's hard to understand the reasons of the girl's behavior. Altogether, it's a good movie and I recommend it to all Romanians (and to foreigners as well).

Good film, a life lesson!
diac_roxana5 January 2012
I liked it very much. Directed and edited in a style much different from the one offered by Hollywood movies, deals concrete problems of life. It's a good lesson for young naive women, who under the influence of a burning passion, can take wrong decisions, from which will suffer all their life. It is also a good opportunity to see things from parent's perspective - who opposed some of our decisions sometimes and we just couldn't understand them. "How can be wrong when I KNOW and I FEEL it's good? Parents just don't understand!!" Well, this movie shows you very clearly how something we felt it was perfectly good, can be awfully wrong...

subtle and clever movie
ligia-g13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A very subtle look at how young women are conned into prostitution after being manipulated by the main character (Luca). And this the part about human trafficking that is overlooked many times: in most cases it is done by people familiar with the victim. Like in this case, Veli, the young woman, although quite bright and practical, falls prey to Luca's manipulation; and she is made to believe that she is helping him to get out of trouble. Very clever story and scene sequencing: at the beginning Luca just finished his relationship / manipulation of another victim named Dani. The young woman is so much under Luca's spell that she cannot bring herself to turn him to the police. But Dani is no longer a source of money for Luca, so he needs to move on. And then immediately he starts building his web of lies and manipulations around his next victim, Veli. The last scene leaves options open. Luca is in front of Veli's hotel room; her pimp just mentioned that "she is free now", so Luca could visit her. He stops in front of the hotel room, maybe thinking that Veli is actually a human being, not just a cash machine for the gang. But then Luca changes his mind and turns away, probably starting to think about his next victim...

Artistic and Captivating
teleologia18 January 2023
I won't leave a bad review just because I needed to watch a documentary about sex-trafficking with a silly happy ending so my sleep won't get disturbed by something that I can't process and manage properly.

Well, I can go beyond all those ridiculous expectations and notice the forgotten taste of noir where bad dudes and gorgeous vamps made the world go round. But this movie goes even deeper than this: every scene is an oportunity to generate amazing visual poetry, to find the right angle and the right amount of light and turn the seemingly dull scenario into magic.

I'm not a fan of Romanian cinema but I begin watching it anyways, while asking myself how are they going to make an actual movie based on such a sinister and bleak reality. But they actually managed to create not only an interesting plot but also a strange and exotic world. I live in Transylvania and this type of setting couldn't be more exotic and unusual for me.

The movie has "that someting", it's charming and captivating. Despite the bad ending, the takeaway is substantial and the style is sophisticated which is a remarkable achievement for a movie about people with no academic background whatsoever.

Disappointing!
RodrigAndrisan22 October 2019
I was expecting to see a serious film, full of specific action, human trafficking. But instead, I see the main character as most of the movie is riding either a scooter or a bicycle. In the meantime, he conquers some girls and leaves them in the hands of the bastards. But, it was the personal choice of the girls... The best and most natural is Remus Margineanu in the role of Toader, the father of the girl.
