Obscure opera gets fine production
bob9989 April 2022
From Glyndebourne in 2016 comes this enjoyable production of a Berlioz opera that I admit to never having seen or heard before. It's a stylish and not too aggressively contemporary production with fine singing from the principals--Stephanie d'Oustrac in particular is fine as Beatrice, snapping off her sarcastic lines with great gusto. The book is less harsh than Shakespeare's original--there's no Don John--but that suits me fine.
