The whole concept for Masha and the Bear is said to be inspired on an old russian tale; also, Oleg Kukuzov (one of the show's writers) said that the show is partially inspired by a little girl he met on a lake, during his vacations. The girl had the same personality as Masha and the people would hide from the girl as days went by.
