- FIVE DAYS AGO
Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) lie in bed and have what every about-to-be-married couple have: cold feet. They decide to have a practice run through the ceremony so they could be ready.
WEST SIDE MEDICAL CENTER
Sarah is rushed into the emergency room as Chuck explains the poison was throrium. Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) tells him that's thorium is a radioactive metal, not a poison. Devon (Ryan McPartlin) figured Volkoff designed a way to synthesize it. Chuck knew little else, but Devon had the hospital surround Sarah with ice to bring down her temperature. They had maybe 24 hours to get the poison out of her. As Chuck held his future wife's hand, she awoke in a haze.
SARAH: Chuck, you look worried. Don't freak out. We're ready for it.
CHUCK: Baby, I'm going to fix this. We're going to get married and be together. Forever. I love you.
Chuck turns to Casey (Adam Baldwin) for the only possible solution: find the man who made the poison to discover an antidote. That, of course, is Alexei Volkoff (Timothy Dalton). They would have to break Volkoff out of a high-security prison. Casey sounded OK with that.
RIVER HILL PENITENTIARY
Chuck and Casey break their way in with Mary Bartowski's (Linda Hamilton) guidance, only to find an open cell where Volkoff would be. Someone from the CIA appears on a video monitor and wants them to stand down.
CHUCK: Casey, you're going pale. You don't go pale. I go pale.
CASEY: Remember when I told you that opening the Agent X files would draw out some remorseless son of a bitch who would destroy our whole team without breaking a sweat? This is the guy they'd hire to kill that guy.
That guy is Clyde Decker (), who is executing a wash order on Operation Bartowski. Either Chuck can stand down or be buried. Chuck explains the situation...by smashing the video monitor.
CHUCK: That guy may be a remorseless son of a bitch, but I'm the Intersect.
CASEY: (very impressed) Let's move.
Ellie tells Chuck Sarah has radiation poisoning throughout her system and twelve hours to live. Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) meets with them in secret, as she warns Chuck going against Decker means going rogue. Chuck and Sarah would have to disappear forever, but everybody was in agreement. As they were locked out of Castle, Beckman hands them her credentials to get in so Chuck can use the Nighthawk to catch up to Volkoff, who is being transported to a black site outside of Phoenix and has a one-hour lead. The Nighthawk. (MARY: Chuck, have you even ridden a motorcycle and I hope to God the answer is no.) Of course, the Intersect has all the directions available, but that didn't stop his mother from nagging him from Castle. (Casey's loving it.) In the transport semi, Decker tells Volkoff about some testing the CIA wants done concerning Agent X. He forces a pair of specialized glasses on Volkoff with a specialized Intersect program just as Chuck arrives at the semi and Casey goes Duke Nukem with the motorcycle's weapons. Chuck gets in the semi and releases Volkoff, but he doesn't know anything about Vivian, Sarah, or the Norseman. Chuck locks Decker in the semi before air support could arrive. Volkoff didn't know who Chuck was, but he did remember who Stephen Bartowski was. They take off, although Alexei didn't really like the motorcycle ride.
Having been suppressed for thirty years, Hartley Winterbottom (Volkoff) was freaking out, to say the least. (HARTLEY: Is he (Reagan) still in charge? CASEY: If only...) Mary tries to explain what happened to him, and Hartley wanted to know what kind of man Volkoff was for thirty years. But Chuck gets to brass tacks and tells Hartley about Sarah being poisoned. Hartley explained the Norseman was developed at the same time as the Intersect, and was intended to collect the DNA of black marketeers and other baddies to keep them in line.
CASEY: That's smart. Reagan smart.
HARTLEY: Peace through violence. Remember, it was the 80s.
An antidote called Iridium-5 could be whipped right up, according to Hartley. And then they'd deal with Vivian. But Hartley wants to know who Vivian is, and Chuck explains it's his daughter. Chuck tells him it's a very long story, but he asks Hartley to save Sarah, which he agrees to do.
As the Iridium-5 antidote is administered, we see flashbacks of the five prior days, with Chuck and Sarah practicing for their wedding. However, the Iridium-5 only slowed down the poison instead of reversing it. Hartley didn't know what to do without his Alexei persona, but Mary said Volkoff had a file called Lead Apron, which Hartley remembered was the project for developing Iridium-6, an upgraded antidote. The vials were at Volkoff's lair in Moscow. Everybody took off to get one of Casey's friends to give them a ride over there, but Decker and his men caught them in the street. Chuck tries to flash with some kung-fu, but he is tasered to the ground.
Morgan (Joshua Gomez) keeps vigil with Sarah, relating a story about how Chuck confronted some bullies who stole Morgan's pants. Underground, Decker tells Chuck Operation Bartowski was over, he was out of the CIA, and the Buy More had been sold. He breaks out the same glasses for Chuck he used on Volkoff. ("They say it only hurts...a lot.") Chuck tries to keep his eyes shut, but Decker's men force them open and Chuck loses the Intersect. Becker then demands Casey to convince Casey and his mother that it was over. But Casey calls BS on Decker, saying Decker was going to use him as a justification for killing everybody because Casey would go rogue to save Sarah, making Decker look like the hero in all of this. Decker agrees Casey is right but decides he's just fine being the bad guy, too. Decker aims his gun, but Casey flips over the table, takes out Decker's men, and locks them in Castle while getting armed to the teeth. He contacts Morgan to take out the tail watching him and meet him back at the apartment. Casey frees Mary, Hartley, and Chuck. Casey and Mary would hold off Decker's men while Chuck and Hartley head to Moscow.
CHUCK: But Casey, they took the Intersect out of me.
CASEY: Shut up! You're Chuck Bartowski, the second-best spy I ever worked with, and now you're going to go save the best one.
Mary tells Hartley he has to go into his old facility as Volkoff and get past lots of security. Hartley realizes it was his fault Vivian turned evil, since he turned her. Before Chuck leaves, Casey hands him some custom-made IDs for Sarah and him. Both of them agree our favorite spy couple must disappear forever.
CHUCK: Am I ever going to see you again, Mom?
MARY: (sadly) Not if everything goes right.
Morgan uses Devon as a distraction to take out the guard watching him. A little "sweep the leg" is what he has in mind, but he panics enough for the guard to see him...and for Devon to lay the guard out.
MOSCOW, RUSSIA
Chuck and Hartley make it to Volkoff Industries. ("It's uh, very stark.") Chuck reminds Hartley of the plan, but Hartley freaks out about having to meet the daughter he ruined and runs away. Chuck gives up, takes off the fake mustache, and tells the receptionist Vivian Volkoff (Lauren Cohan) is expecting him.
Chuck walks into Vivian's office and begs for the Iridium-6, but Vivian thinks there's a trick behind it to get him out of it. Chuck admitted not having any plans. ("The woman I love is dying, and my only hope is you haven't totally become this person.") She doesn't believe him, as she thinks every word Chuck said to her was to manipulate her. First he tells Vivian her father's a monster and now he was a hero.
HARTLEY: I wouldn't say 'hero'. Bloody fool, more like.
Hartley tells Vivian he asked Stephen Bartowski to use his computer program to help him go on a mission.
CHUCK: (astonished) How did you get in here?
HARTLEY: Oh, I just asked to be shown to my office, and everybody jumped up to help me. I guess I was a really harsh boss. And father.
Vivian doesn't believe it and threw down the pendant Alexei Volkoff gave her as his successor, but Hartley explained it belonged to his grandmother, also named Vivian, who looked just like his daughter and also loved to ride horses. Chuck tried to convince her she was a good person from a good family, but she killed Sarah in cold blood and had to run Volkoff. She couldn't go back. Chuck handed Vivian the IDs and told Hartley and Vivian they could start a new life with them.
HARTLEY: I want to start a new life with you. But if you pull that trigger, you'll lose yourself forever, like I did.
CHUCK: Please? Will you help me?
At West Side, Casey, Mary, and Morgan hide out from Decker's men who have the hospital surrounded, although they now have more help: Sarah's bridesmaids, Carina () and Zondra (). They weren't sure of Chuck's approach, but a paratrooper landing in front of the hospital might clue them in. The entire team pull their guns on Decker and his men. (MORGAN: Let them in, douche.) But Decker had an entire army surrounding the gang. Decker looked very proud to have outwitted Chuck Bartowski.
CHUCK: I know the move. But we have a move of our own. It's called The Magnet. See, while you're busy looking at me and all of my spy friends, you're missing someing really, REALLY big. Care of Volkoff Industries.
The thing? Russians, so many Russians. An entire army of paratroopers surround Decker and his army.
DECKER: Russian special forces? You really are a traitor.
CHUCK: Just for the day.
Chuck shows him a copy of all of the data on Agent X and Decker's attempts to cover it up. If anything happens to Chuck, his family, or friends, the information goes public.
DECKER: (defiant) You're done.
CHUCK: (even more defiant) I quit.
Chuck bolts into the hospital and gets the antidote to Ellie and Awesome. He hopes and prays it isn't too late.
At the First Saints church, there is a funeral and viewing at 3PM...and the Bartowski Wedding at 4PM. (wouldn't that be a bit awkward, mourners walking out as people ready to party walk in?) Morgan is officiating the wedding, and everybody is there. It was time for Chuck to say his vows. Except now he's not as confident about them as he was when they practiced.
CHUCK: They just don't cut it, Sarah, I'm sorry. How do I express the depth of my love for you? Or my dreams for our future, or the fact I will fight for you every day, or that our kids will be like little superheroes with little capes and stuff like that? Words can't express that; they just can't cut it. So no vows. I'll just prove it to you every day for the rest of our lives. You can count on me.
SARAH: (almost in tears) Perfect.
Unfortunately, Morgan was in tears so he had to hurry through the pronunciations. And by the power invested in him by the Intergalatic Federation of Planets, Chuck and Sarah were now husband and wife. And he really kissed the bride. They head out of the church to applause as we see some of their famous moments: Sarah asking him to trust her on the beach, their first kiss in the warehouse, Chuck admitting he loved her in Castle, the morning in Barstow, Sarah telling him she didn't fall in love with James Bond; she fell in love with him. They get into the limo and head to the airport, but the driver wants one picture of them kissing.
CHUCK: Morgan, what happened to the driver?
MORGAN: Uh, I was always the driver, Chuck. (sheepish) Having a little trouble letting go.
CHUCK: Just roll up the partition, buddy.
MORGAN: (imitating Westley from ) As you wish!
Mrs. Chuck Bartowski got a call from Hartley, apologizing Vivian and he couldn't make the wedding, but he sent them a gift. ("Be wise with it, Charles. Good luck.") He opens the envelope and freaks out. "Oh, boy!"
TWO WEEKS LATER - BUY MORE
Chuck returns to see everything back to normal, unfortunately. Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) weren't happy, as the Buy More had still been sold and they would be out of jobs soon. But Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence) tells Jeffster to shape up, as the new buyer would be by today. Chuck goes through the empty Castle and finds a box of his stuff, including his pocket protector and his Chuck Taylors. And a little videoconference with Decker, who taunts Chuck about being fired. Decker says Chuck was always a pawn in this.
DECKER: You think it was all just coincidence? Fulcrum, The Ring, Shaw, Agent X? It was all part of a plan, Bartowski. Just pieces on a puzzle board. See you never, civilian.
Chuck demanded to know what plan it was that destroyed his family and killed his father, but Decker simply laughed and disconnected. Chuck went over it with Sarah, Casey, and Morgan. They couldn't figure it out, but Casey said it was irrelevant, since all of them were fired.
CHUCK: Well, what if we went into business for ourselves?
SARAH: Yes, we have a base, the Buy More is a perfect cover.
MORGAN: Uh, excuse me, Mrs. B, but the Buy More was just sold.
CHUCK: (smiling) Yeah, we know. We bought it.
Apparently, the "oh,boy" was about the $877 million dollars in Volkoff Industries assets Hartley turned over to them. ("Although, I like to refer to it as a cool billion, because that's more fun to say.") They also have a Gulf Stream jet and plenty of tactical equipment, but they still need a few employees to help fight the bad guys, and they wonder if Casey and Morgan are interested. ("Hell yeah." "Hells YEAH!") Morgan is loving it, he is so geeked, he even tries on Chuck's slick new shades.
MORGAN: What could go wrong?
The, uh, Intersect glasses Morgan just put on? Morgan dowloaded the Intersect.
MORGAN: Guys? I know kung fu.
See you in Season 5!
