We just saw him on the Fringe series finale, but Seth Gabel is diving into yet another kind of world on tonight's Arrow.
As The Count, Gabel is the villain responsible for the drug Vertigo that landed Thea in the slammer last week. On the upcoming installment - aptly titled “Vertigo" - you’ll see Oliver go to great lengths to bring this dealer down.
We chatted with Gabel yesterday about what The Count is really after, what his inspiration was for the manic personality of the character and, of course, how it felt to be part the Fringe finale...
TV Fanatic: This looks like a very fun role for you to jump into...
Seth Gabel: It’s like the most fun I’ve ever had playing a part. To be totally out there and eccentric and to be over the top! It was so much fun.

In its first season, Arrow has wasted no time introducing classic villain’s from the Green Arrow mythology and next week, Count Vertigo will make his debut. But there’s a twist.
“The character doesn’t have any super powers to start with but any superpowers that the comic book character had get manifested in the form of a drug called Vertigo that I sell on the street,” explains Seth Gabel, who plays the character The Count. “I’m a street drug kingpin, and I’m flooding the street of Starling City with Vertigo.”

Hey, gang! How’ve you been?
Personally, 2013 is off to an insanely fun start. Just yesterday, for example, I spent the day on the NYC set of CBS’s upcoming procedural drama, Golden Boy. (Hence the column’s one day delay!) The show stars Theo James (a name/face Downton Abbey fans probably know) and debuts in February. I’ll have plenty from that visit soon.
I hope your New Year has been equally thrilling, but if not, spice up your life by submitting your spoiler Qs! (As usual, spoilerroom@ew.com is the best way!)

I Am Rougue sat down with actor Seth Gabel to discuss his upcoming projects including Arrow, Fringe and Allegiance. Here's the Arrow portion of the interview below. On whether he read any comics in preparation for the role or if the show is going in a new direction. Gabel: I knew right away that they were doing an adaptation of the character. In the original comic book series his name is Count Vertigo and he’s a guy of eastern European decent. In this, I play a street thug/drug kingpin and instead of having super powers, whatever super powers I may have get manifested in the form of a drug called Vertigo that I found in the street of Starling City. I’m using that to acquire money, power and psychologically disturbing citizens of Starling City so that I could eventually take over. So they're manifesting his powers through...

Reshma Shetty, one of the stars of “Allegiance,” was able to speak with ShockYa about her role in the film. During the interview, Shetty talked about her work with the Uso, where she thinks “Allegiance” fits in with other military films and a scoop on what will be happening next for her character, Divya, on “Royal Pains.” Allegiance is actually one of the more intriguing films I’ve heard about this year. What made you want to commit to the script? Reshma Shetty: Lots of reasons. First of all, I’m not asked to do—bizarrely—a lot of girlfriend roles, so the actual idea of doing something like that was actually very interesting [ Read More ]

Seth Gabel stars in Allegiance as Lt. Danny Sefton, a member of the National Guard that is somehow released from serving with the rest of his company in Iraq. ShockYa was glad to get the chance to speak with Gabel about his role and the state of military films today. “Allegiance” comes to DVD and Blu-ray January 15, 2013. What made you want to do this movie? What drew you to the script? Seth Gabel: What drew me to it mostly were the people involved. I think the script is fantastic, but the people involved—the director Michael Connors, the producer Sean Mullin, many of the other producers as well—almost everyone [ Read More ]

Speaking with Collider while promoting his new movie Allegiance, Seth Gabel (Fringe) discusses his role as the villain 'The Count' in an early 2013 episode of The CW's Arrow. Based on the character Count Vertigo, this incarnation of the DC Comics character is very different from the comic version. "I play The Count, who’s based on Count Vertigo of the comic book series. Instead of having superpowers, the powers are manifested in a drug called Vertigo, that I sell on the street. I’m essentially this street thug/drug kingpin, taking over the streets of Starling City. The way I justified being a super-villain, if you will, is that the character cares so much about money and power that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to acquire those things. In being totally consumed by money and power, I can completely ignore any questionable ethics, along that process, and...

The "Fringe" finale is drawing closer, and as we start to emotionally prepare ourselves for the end, it's encouraging to know that the show's stars are trying to do the same.
The Huffington Post caught up with Seth Gabel earlier in the week, and as well as discussing his villainous new character on The CW's "Arrow" and his lead role in the intense war film "Allegiance" (released Dec. 28 in New York and Los Angeles, available on VOD now), we couldn't help but slip in a few questions about the end of Fox's sci-fi drama.
Read on for Gabel's thoughts on bidding farewell to "Fringe" and why "Allegiance" is the kind of war film "you've never seen before."
I know that you recently attended the "Fringe" 100th episode party for the end of the series. How was that experience of going back and catching up with everyone?
It was an incredible finish.

You're unlikely to find two characters as diametrically opposed as Seth Gabel's new villain (dubbed "The Count") on "Arrow" and his understated performance in new film "Allegiance" (released Dec. 28 in New York and Los Angeles, available on VOD now) -- but that's probably the point.
The 31-year-old actor may be best known for playing Lincoln Lee on Fox's "Fringe" and the dysfunctional Jeremy Darling in ABC's gone-but-not-forgotten "Dirty Sexy Money," but his latest performances seem poised make you view the star in a whole new light.
The Huffington Post caught up with Gabel earlier this week to discuss his villainous "Arrow" role. Light spoilers ahead.
Let's talk a little bit about your role on "Arrow," since it sounds like your character is pivotal to the story.

An intelligently written and genuinely felt Iraq War drama, Allegiance is perhaps the first film about the way the conflict shaped the lives of those who prepare to go to battle that has been written, produced, directed and mostly financed by veterans themselves. The directorial debut of Michael Connors, the picture has an unforced verisimilitude few films about military life can match. Allegiance portrays an insular community with its own moral logic, in this case an American military regiment of New York National Guardsmen being called up to active duty in Iraq on the eve of the Sadr City/Fallujah nightmare of 2004. What …...
