In the famous “Church and State” episode from Succession’s penultimate season, Kendall Roy eulogizes his father with a speech acknowledging the man’s brutality while celebrating the “magnificent, awful force of him,” the “vim” that made the world a more interesting place to be. Netflix’s adaption of Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full tries to conjure that same sort of figure with its central character: Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels), a powerful, complicated businessman whose flaws are glaring but whose gravitational pull is undeniable. But Charlie lacks the vigor to live up to that description, and so does the series that revolves around him.
Daniels plays Charlie with a slurring Southern accent that makes him sound like he’s speaking through ill-fitting dentures. Charlie is a college football star turned real estate mogul, and something of a kingpin in Georgia. He owns a vast business empire, presiding over...

Over its decade-long run and spawning numerous spin-offs, The Walking Dead has secured its place as one of the most successful TV series. Adapted from the comic book by Frank Darabont, the post-apocalyptic horror show delves into the harrowing struggles of survival in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.
As the name and the concept of the show suggest, it witnessed the demise of several characters throughout its 11-season journey. These deaths are often portrayed in the most heart-wrenching and brutal manner imaginable, leaving fans devastated.

Actor Kevin Spacey had been at the peak of his career when he was accused of s*xual assault and was put on trial. Many reports of assault and misconduct came out as part of the Weinstein Effect, which led him to lose out on most of his acting commitments at the time. The actor was also dropped from his long-running Netflix show House of Cards.
Spacey was reportedly cleared of his charges in 2023 and was ready to get back to work again. The two-time Oscar winner won his first Academy Award for his performance as Verbal Kint in Bryan Singer’s cult classic The Usual Suspects. The character was reportedly written with Spacey in mind as he was not too famous at the time, which would have given the twist away.

Almost a year after Kevin Spacey was found not guilty of sex crimes, Channel 4 and Max in the U.S. are set to air testimony from more men detailing their experiences with the double-Oscar winner.
Channel 4’s Spacey Unmasked, which was announced two years ago but has gone quiet since, has dropped trailer and will launch in 10 days’ time. When one thinks of auteur-driven Peak TV in the streaming age, the first shows that generally come to mind are “House Of Cards” (2013) with David Fincher at the helm (at least for the first few eps), “True Detective” (2014) by director Cary Fukunaga, and Steven Soderbergh’s “The Knick” (2014). Crucial to the mix, but sometimes missing in that conversation, is Jane Campion’s “Top Of The Lake” starring Elisabeth Moss, which debuted in 2013, right at the beginning of this new second golden age of TV.

After the end of strikes, agents, managers and producers quickly moved in to assemble high-profile packages to take out in what was expected to be a frothy marketplace following six months of inactivity. But, while there have been a few bidding wars and big sales with a couple of others pending, the level of demand has not been what many anticipated. The biggest casualty of the tight market — packages with A-list stars attached.
“This has been such a head-scratcher,” one agent said about the situation. Agencies are keeping record of all the star packages that went out and failed to draw interest over the past few months despite the level of talent that has included Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees in front or behind the camera, stars of blockbuster movies and iconic TV series and, in a couple of instances, famous IP. The total now exceeds 20.

10. Altered Carbon (2018–2020) Fell Flat After S1
For all the cyberpunk connoisseurs, Altered Carbon was a breath of fresh air. A phenomenal setting, compelling characters, and engaging mystery — it had it all. The hype for Season 2 was real, but halfway through, the showrunner changed… Let’s just say that very few people even finished watching the new series.
9. Heroes (2006–2010) Was Gone for Good After S1
When Heroes Season 1 premiered in 2006, it became an instant nationwide cultural phenomenon. Everyone and their grandma were talking about it non-stop, and it felt like the new TV show was there to stay. Indeed, it stayed around for three more seasons, but those were so terrible the audience decided to ignore their existence.
8. Sleepy Hollow (2013–2017) Lost Its Essence After S1
Sleepy Hollow Season 1 got all the creepy fairy tale/legend fans excited. Unfortunately, after hyping the audience up, the show changed a showrunner and went into oblivion.

In the stock market, the story is everything.
If you are a public company, you want to tell a story about your business. A story of growth, of ambition, of what your future holds and what your ceiling can be.
When it works, it can send your share price soaring (just look at Nvidia and its status as the hardware company of artificial intelligence). When it doesn’t, it can result in a hasty retreat back to private ownership (see: Endeavor).
It’s something that Netflix knows all too well.

While multiple Korean TV series have connected with global audiences, Japan’s production committees, terrestrial broadcasters and talent agencies have kept their TV industry tightly focused on a local market.
Anime and variety have long remained the Japanese TV industry’s best-known exports, while the premium end of the spectrum has largely escaped Japanese producers. That is despite multinational shows like Hulu’s “Shogun,” HBO’s “Tokyo Vice” and Netflix’s “House of Ninjas” underscoring the potentially substantial overseas interest in Japan-set live-action drama.
“House of the Owl,” set to begin airing on Disney+ and Hulu from next week, is both an outlier and a potential mold breaker.

These days, actress Robin Wright is likely best known for her six seasons as Claire Underwood on “House of Cards.” Her character’s trajectory on Netflix’s often-rancid take on underhanded politics saw her ending up becoming the 47th President of the United States after co-star Kevin Spacey was forced to leave the show due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Wright collected six Emmy nominations as Best Drama Actresss and two for being an executive producer on the show. Wright also earned directorial stripes while calling the shots behind the camera for 10 episodes as well.
That experience led her to make her directorial film debut with “Land,” in which she played Edee, a woman filled with suicidal thoughts after suffering a tragic personal loss. She decides to go off the grid while moving into a grungy cabin in amongst the scenic mountains of Wyoming. Her attempts to chop wood, hunt...

THR reports that Beau Willimon is set to co-write the script for James Mangold’s Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.
Willimon is a playwright and screenwriter best known for developing House of Cards for Netflix, but he also has some Star Wars experience as he worked on the first season of Andor, writing three episodes of the critically acclaimed series. He will co-write the script for Dawn of the Jedi (which is just a working title) alongside Mangold, who will also direct.

One of several "Star Wars" movies currently in development at Lucasfilm just took a major step forward. Writer Beau Willimon is now set to co-write director James Mangold's upcoming adventure in a galaxy far, far away. Willimon will pen the script alongside Mangold for what is tentatively titled "Dawn of the Jedi", which was first announced last year during Star Wars Celebration.
The news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter. Willimon is perhaps best known for creating Netflix's "House of Cards." However, "Star Wars" fans will know him best as one of the writers of "Andor," the much-acclaimed Disney+ series about Cassian Andor. Most notably, he penned the episode "One Way Out," which is widely considered to be one of the best episodes of television in the history of the franchise. Willimon was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the episode. Now, he's getting the chance to tackle a movie.

“House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon will co-write the script for “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.”
He’ll pen the Lucasfilm project alongside James Mangold, who will also direct the film. It will trace the origins of the Force and will be set 25,000 years before any other “Star Wars” project previously seen.
“It’s a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the birth of the force,” Mangold told Variety in 2023 when the film was announced. “When I first talked to Kathy Kennedy about it, I just said, ‘I just see this opening to make kind of a ‘Ben-Hur’ or ‘The 10 Commandments’ about the birth of the force.’ The force has become a kind of religious legend that spans through all these movies. But where did it come from? How is it found? Who found it? Who was the first Jedi? And that’s what I’m writing right now.

The Prince of Darkness. Heir to both Hell and Thorn Industries. The antichrist himself and guy who gets his haircut at Great Clips, Damien Thorn. The titular character of The Omen franchise will be praised not by his usual followers but by us as we dive into the second edition of The Best Of The Bad Guys, where we rank the best work of cinema’s most evil villains.
Damien Thorn’s run of evil has spanned five films including an utterly pointless shot-for-shot remake and a TV series with another prequel on the way in The First Omen. And though The Omen IV: The Awakening doesn’t follow Damien himself; his presence is felt. The franchise started in 1976 with legendary director Richard Donner giving us the first version...

It took Gary Oldman some time to win his first Oscar, which he claimed for “Darkest Hour” in 2018, and it is taking him even longer to win his first Emmy. The legendary British actor was first nominated 23 years ago for his guest role on “Friends.”He should be reaping a second Emmy bid for his leading role in the Apple TV+ drama “Slow Horses.” The acclaimed series, based on Mick Herron‘s book, follows a group of British intelligence agents who are confined to a dumping ground of a department due to their past mistakes.
Oldman stars at the head of the department, Jackson Lamb who is rude, abrasive, full of bad habits, and, a lot of the time, drunk. As the character, Oldman is a joy to watch as the crass and broken spy. But while he revels in the comedy of said crassness, Oldman sows in an undercurrent of intelligence and belied sharpness,...

In the "The Simpsons" episode "Flaming Moe's, the put-upon bartender Moe Szyslak (Hank Azaria) finds his bar struggling to stay afloat in the wake of increased job satisfaction and family bliss in the city. Homer (Dan Castellaneta) suggests Moe try a new cocktail. Homer then reveals the recipe for a cough syrup-infused drink — the Flaming Homer — that becomes more flavorful after you set it on fire. Moe mixes one and it's an instant hit. Moe also instantly claims credit for inventing the drink, much to Homer's consternation.
The redubbed Flaming Moe is a huge success, and Moe's dive bar quickly grow into a massive event space where Aerosmith performs. Eventually Homer, fed up with not receiving any credit or money, reveals the secret ingredients and Moe's quickly returns to being a dive.

Selena Gomez has seen her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars and guest stars get nominated for and win Emmys the past two years while she sat on the sidelines. Will the third time finally be the charm? She’s currently in fifth place in the Best Comedy Actress odds. Given her previous snubs, you’d be justified to doubt her chances, but we’ve been through this before with a twice snubbed actress-singer who pulled through on her third try under very similar circumstances: Mandy Moore.
“This Is Us” was a breakout hit when it premiered in 2016 on NBC. In 2017, it earned 10 Emmy nominations for its freshman installment, including Best Drama Series and seven acting bids — but not for Moore in Best Drama Actress. Having established herself at the BBC with the police procedural “Happy Valley” and the crossdressing costume drama “Gentleman Jack,” screenwriter-turned-showrunner Sally Wainwright has followed countless creatives and taken the Disney shilling to initiate her latest project. You can hardly blame her, given the reduced offer the cash-strapped British broadcaster is now extending even to its more illustrious dramaturges: rarely more than three episodes per series and four characters per scene. Imposed by post-Brexit belt-tightening, this sorry set of limitations has exasperated those obliged to work within them while dispiriting viewers, left watching the life — and the talent — drain from primetime broadcasts.

Listen up fives — and by that I mean fours. “Girls5eva” is now streaming on Netflix and you’ve run out of excuses. This heightened, hilarious series from “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” writer Meredith Scardino is exactly the kind of bingeable romp that Netflix users allegedly crave, so why aren’t you watching, rewatching, and recommending?

The world of entertainment has seen many unfortunate incidents when an actor reportedly lost a role due to one thing or another. While actors like Emily Blunt lost a Marvel role due to contractual obligations, Mahershala Ali, on the other hand, lost a very amazing opportunity due to Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade.
Mahershala Ali (Image: Instagram | @mahershalaali)
While Blade seems to be forever struck by developmental delays and whatnot, Ali could have been Lt. Jim Gordon in Matt Reeves’ The Batman had it not been for it. With a sequel for the Robert Pattinson starter flick already in the works, it seems unfortunate that Ali lost on such an incredible opportunity.

It's been five years since "Game of Thrones" ended, but TV studios are still trying their best to recreate the show's success. HBO now has the spin-off "House of the Dragon" going for them, Prime Video has "The Rings of Power," and now FX seems to have "Shōgun." Sure, the show isn't actually a fantasy series, but it's also in a medievalesque setting and focuses on a bunch of schemers doing morally questionable things. For "Shōgun" director Jonathan van Tulleken, however, "Game of Thrones" isn't the show that comes to mind when describing his series. Instead, he seems to view it as a spiritual successor to two other TV shows with far more contemporary settings. As he explained in a recent interview:
"Truly it is a character piece and it is about this intrigue ... This is a dangerous world where violence can come out of nowhere but the real danger is in the machinations.

With Oscar season on the horizon, many looked back on one of the ceremony’s most memorable moments, which was the Oscars Selfie that talk show host Ellen DeGeneres took in 2014. The selfie featured A-listers such as Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Changing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, and Lupita Nyong’o. It was often regarded as one of the most memorable selfies ever taken.

However, ever since the selfie was taken, the lives of these A-listers seem to have gone off the rails. A recent article by the New York Post opined that the ‘Oscar Selfie Curse’ was a real thing and that most of the actors present in the selfie have either been canceled, faced career setbacks, or have had disastrous personal lives. Fans, however, are annoyed with this narrative and are not buying into the Oscar Curse.

Zack Snyder’s braggadocio reaches new heights as the director argues to Joe Rogan that his movie Rebel Moon did better in theaters than Barbie.
“According to him, Netflix’s whole distribution model is so ‘crazy’ that he thinks more people have probably seen his movie Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child Of Fire than Barbie (when it was in theaters)—due to Netflix’s ubiquity and the fact that you can just throw something on without having to go out to a theater and buy a separate ticket. That seems completely absurd…”

Plot: A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.
Review: The idea of the anti-fairy tale is nothing new. From the grounded Cinderella tale Ever After starring Drew Barrymore to the John Wick-inspired The Princess starring Joey King, outdated stories of helpless maidens needing to be rescued by Prince Charming have lost their appeal in recent years. With empowerment narratives sometimes going too far in the opposite direction, striking a balance between good storytelling without archaic stereotypes is a tricky endeavor. While Disney has tried to flip the script with animated projects like Frozen or the live-action Maleficent, Netflix has delivered an update to the age-old stories of dragons, royalty, and knights with their dark fantasy Damsel.

Production banner FlipNarrative, set up by Waleed Zuaiter — the BAFTA-nominated star of “Baghdad Central” and “Gangs of London” and Oscar-nominated producer of “Omar” — has optioned the rights to Shannon Chakraborty’s latest novel “The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi,” with plans to develop it into a multi-season series and gaming platform.
The book — the first in a trilogy being published by Harper Voyager — is a swashbuckling high seas adventure following a notorious Muslim pirate captain who has survived backstabbing rogues, vengeful merchant princes, several husbands and an actual demon before retiring to a life of piety. Hiroyuki Sanada starrer historical drama limited series Shōgun has been receiving critical acclaim worldwide, but it seems that even within the industry, opinions are divided. While the renowned game designer Hideo Kojima has hailed the series, calling it the Game of Thrones of ‘Japan’, Shōgun’s director, Jonathan van Tulleken, begs to differ.
In an interview, Tulleken stated that he sees Shōgun as more of Succession or House of Cards than a direct comparison to Game of Thrones. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks developed Shōgun as a limited historical drama series. In addition to Sanada, the cast also features Tommy Bestow, Cosmo Jarvis, Takehiro Hira, Tadanobu Asano, and Fumi Nikaido.
