Ridiculous ending

I really enjoyed the first half of this series. We were introduced to some interesting characters, dynamics and some fun humour in this very dysfunctional family. It was quite whimsical but it still felt grounded and rooted in the family dynamics. After revealing the car accident and the death of Slim, this story went downhill fast.

The latter half of the show suffers from having lost 2 of it's most interesting characters right off the back, and becoming less of a character drama, and taking this weird U-turn into a conspiracy mystery that even 'Reacher' would find over the top.

This final episode has them facing off against a Terminator doppelganger supervillain (who gets thrown out a giant window at the end, with terrible CGI to boot) and the big reveal is that a guy that is the spitting image of Colonel KFC is a mad scientist who puppets everyone to his whims. An of course the boy becomes a hero and wins the girl in the end, very cliché and boring.

Also some nonsense involving a blue canary and Gus having semi-prophetic visions. I have no idea what tone this story was going for. It flip flops from gritty crime drama to uplifting, sentimental family scenes, psychedelic dream sequences, sudden domestic violence, conspiracy action thriller mystery and back again, without any of this gelling together at all.

First 5 episodes were a solid 7/10 Last 2 episodes were total garbage.

Very disappointing as I'm a huge fan of miniseries like this usually, and the cast was very enjoyable, but the story needed to make its mind up about what it wanted to be, because the tonal flip flopping from gritty to absurd was jarring and ridiculous.
