- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: You know what I learnt losing that duel? I learnt that I'll never win. Not that way. That's their game, their rules. I'm not going to fight them: I'm going to fuck them. That's what I know, that's what I am, and only by admitting what we are can we get what we want.
- Ros: And what do you want?
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Everything, my dear. Everything there is.
- Jon Snow: [recites the vow of the Night's Watch] Hear my words, and bear witness to my vow: night gathers and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realm of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
- Cersei Lannister: You're in pain.
- Eddard Stark: [rising wearily] I've had worse, my lady.
- Cersei Lannister: Perhaps it is time to go home. The south doesn't seem to agree with you.
- Eddard Stark: I know the truth Jon Arryn died for.
- Cersei Lannister: Do you, Lord Stark? Is that why you called me here, to pose me riddles?
- Eddard Stark: [looks at Cersei's bruise, inflicted by Robert] Has he done this before?
- Cersei Lannister: [self-consciously] Jaime would have killed him. My brother is worth a thousand of your friend.
- Eddard Stark: Your brother? Or your lover?
- Cersei Lannister: The Targaryens wed brothers and sisters for three hundred years to keep bloodlines pure. Jaime and I are more than brother and sister. We shared a womb. We came into this world together, we belong together.
- Eddard Stark: My son saw you with him.
- Cersei Lannister: Do you love your children?
- Eddard Stark: With all my heart.
- Cersei Lannister: No more than I love mine.
- Eddard Stark: And they're all Jaime's?
- Cersei Lannister: [scoffs] Thank the gods. In the rare event when Robert finished with his whores for long enough to stumble drunkenly into my bed, I finished him off in other ways. In the morning, he doesn't remember.
- Eddard Stark: You always hated him.
- Cersei Lannister: Hated him? I worshiped him. Every girl in the Seven Kingdoms dreamed of him, but he was mine by oath. And when I finally saw him on our wedding day in the Sept of Baelor, lean, fierce and black-bearded, it was the happiest day of my life. And that night he crawled on top of me, stinking of wine, and did what he did, what little he could do... and he whispered in my ear "Lyanna"... Your sister was a corpse and I was a living girl and he loved her more than me.
- Eddard Stark: When the king returns from his hunt, I'll tell him the truth. You must be gone by then, you and your children. I won't have their blood on my hands. Go as far away as you can, with as many men as you can, because Robert's wrath will follow you.
- Cersei Lannister: And what about my wrath, Lord Stark? You should have taken the realm yourself. Jaime told me about the day King's Landing fell. He was sitting in the Iron Throne and you made him give it up. All you needed to do was climb those steps yourself. Such a sad mistake.
- Eddard Stark: I've made many mistakes in my life, but that wasn't one of them.
- Cersei Lannister: Oh, but it was. When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.
- [last lines]
- Petyr Baelish: [holds a knife to Ned's throat, smiling mockingly] I did warn you not to trust me.
- Petyr Baelish: When the queen proclaims one king and the king's Hand proclaims another, whose peace do the Gold Cloaks protect? Who do they follow? The man who pays them.
- Eddard Stark: [to Renly] I will not dishonor Robert's last hours by shedding blood in his halls and dragging frightened children from their beds.
- Khal Drogo: Moon of My Life, are you hurt?
- [Daenerys shakes her head. Relieved, Drogo kisses Daenerys's forehead]
- Khal Drogo: [to Jorah] Jorah the Andal. I heard what you did. Choose any horse you wish, it is yours. I make this gift to you.
- Khal Drogo: [to Daenerys] And to my son, The Stallion Who Will Mount the Word, I will also pledge a gift. I will give him the Iron Chair that his mother's father sat upon. I will give him Seven Kingdoms. I, Drogo, will do this. I will take my Khalasar west to where the world ends...
- [the Khalasar roars in approval]
- Khal Drogo: ...and ride wooden horses across the black salt water as no Khal has done before! I will kill the men in iron suits and tear down their stone houses! I will rape their women, take their children as slaves, and bring their broken gods back to Vaes Dothrak! This, I vow, I, Drogo, son of Bharbo. I swear before the Mother of Mountains as the stars look down in witness! As the stars look down in witness! As the stars look down in witness!
- [the Khalasar erupts in approval]
- [at the Lannisters' army camp, Jaime enters the tent where his father is. Tywin is busy sharpening a knife, his back turns to his son. A carcass of dead stag is on the table. Jaime reads aloud the royal decree which declares Gregor Clegane as an outlaw]
- Jaime Lannister: Poor Ned Stark. Brave man, terrible judgement.
- Tywin Lannister: Attacking him was stupid.
- [Tywin starts butchering the stag]
- Tywin Lannister: Lannisters don't act like fools.
- [Tywin pulls out the entrails of the stag and dumps them into a bucket. Jaime opens his mouth, but Tywin interrupts before his son can speak]
- Tywin Lannister: [wipes his hands] You're gonna to say something clever? Go on, say something clever.
- Jaime Lannister: Catelyn Stark took my brother.
- Tywin Lannister: [continues butchering the stag] Why is he still alive?
- Jaime Lannister: Tyrion?
- Tywin Lannister: Ned Stark.
- Jaime Lannister: One of our men interfered, speared him through the leg before I could finish him.
- Tywin Lannister: Why is he still alive?
- Jaime Lannister: It wouldn't have been clean.
- Tywin Lannister: [sneers] Clean? You spend too much time worrying what other people think of you.
- Jaime Lannister: I could care less what anyone thinks of me.
- Tywin Lannister: That's what you want people to think of you.
- Jaime Lannister: It's the truth.
- Tywin Lannister: And you hear them whispering "Kingslayer" behind your back, doesn't it bother you?
- Jaime Lannister: [reluctantly] Of course it bothers me.
- Tywin Lannister: A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinion of a sheep.
- [Jaime does not answer. Tywin continues slaughtering the stag]
- Tywin Lannister: I suppose I should be grateful that your vanity got in the way of your recklessness. I'm giving you half of our forces. 30,000 men. And we'll bring that to Catelyn Stark's girlhood home, and remind her that Lannisters pay their debts.
- Jaime Lannister: [slightly surprised] I didn't realize you place such a high value on my brother's life.
- Tywin Lannister: [snickers] He's a Lannister! Maybe the lowest of the Lannisters, but he's one of us. And everyday that he remains a prisoner, the less our name commands respect.
- Jaime Lannister: So the lion does concern himself with the opinion...
- Tywin Lannister: [interrupts Jaime impatiently] No, that's not an opinion, it's a fact! If another house can seize one of our own and hold him captive with impunity, we are no longer a house to be feared.
- [Jaime nods silently. Tywin continues carving the stag]
- Tywin Lannister: Your mother's dead. Before long I'll be dead, and you and your brother and your sister and all of her children, all of us dead, all of us rotting underground. It's the family name that lives on. It's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor... but family. You understand?
- [Jaime nods quietly. Tywin thrusts the knife at the table and wipes his hands clean with a cloth]
- Tywin Lannister: You're blessed with abilities that few men possess. You're blessed to belong to the most powerful family in the kingdoms. And you're still blessed with youth. And what have you done with these blessings, eh? You served as a glorified bodyguard for two kings... one a mad man, the other a drunk.
- [Tywin approaches Jaime]
- Tywin Lannister: The future of our family will be determined in these next few months. We could establish a dynasty that would last a thousand years... or we could collapse into nothing, as the Targaryens did.
- [Tywin places his palm on Jaime's right cheek and looks at his closely in the eyes]
- Tywin Lannister: I need you to become a man you're always meant to be. Not next year, not tomorrow... now.
- [Tywin turns away from his son, picks up the knife and continues butchering the stag. Jaime lingers, then leaves. Tywin looks after him]
- Ser Jorah Mormont: I believe what my eyes and ears report. As for the rest, it was 300 years ago. Who knows what really happened?
- [Littlefinger instruct the whores Ros and Armeca how to pleasure men]
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: [to Ros] Play with her ass.
