Good Greek Drama

Warning: Spoilers
Falling in love can put you in the weirdest situations sometimes. A beautiful Greek drama that takes place in the army and it's really nice to watch.

Naive and shallow

Warning: Spoilers
A supposedly "tender" film, "The tango of Christmas" is a tale about "love" in a gloomy place during a dark era of the recent Greek history.

However, without the adequate emotional depth to support the story, the film ends up like a caricature of a true love story. The characters have not been "carved" enough to provide a convincing background to what happens in the film. A "strict" Colonel who is nothing else but strict, a "fragile" Colonel's wife who only needs love, a Lieutenant who is in love with the Colonel's wife in a ridiculously primitive way and a soldier who is in love with the Lieutenant.

Nothing more. Meanwhile, the Colonel "struggles" for a good transfer to the Capital (Athens), his wife sleeps all day, the Lieutenant learns how to dance and the soldier does not know exactly what he wants to do: To go back home to see his dying mother, or to stay at the camp to have another dance with the Lieutenant? He finally catches a cold, but a very serious one!

What is even more disappointing, although shamelessly used in the title of the film to attract the Season's viewers, Christmas means nothing to any of the heroes of the film. Consequently, the film should better be "The tango of Carnival" or even "The tango of the High School Graduates' Ball", which would certainly fit better with the totally naive concept of the film.
