Episode 1 starts off with four men talking to the camera, bloodied and bruised, giving what looks like a final message to their nearest and dearest.
We then go back to see the four middle aged guys greeting each other at the airport. They are long time friends, Baxter (John Simm) Rick (Marc Warren) Woody (Max Beesley) and Quinn (Philip Glenister) all off to Majorca to stay with another of their pal Alvo (Ben Chaplin.)
Alvo has done well in the property business and has taken early retirement but he seems to be agitated and under stress. At dinner one evening he stirs up trouble regarding his four friends. Broken marriages, depression even suicide.
The party ends when an intruder enters wearing a Tony Blair mask.
The first episode is a little slow with the set up. You sense Alvo is up to no good. We also get glimpses of friction between the four men as well. A snide comment here or there.
However it is quirky, darkly comic to keep you interested for the rest of the series.
