Very funny stuff

Warning: Spoilers
Colin Quinn performs an extremely witty and perceptive one-man show on how various cultures throughout history have all influenced each other in one way or another: Whether it's Julius Caesar making his mark as the first mobster, England conquering everyone through the power of contempt, the Holy Roman empire giving the world priests, or the Middle East suffering from father issues, Quinn points out how every country all over the world has done their bit to help shape the current crazy world that we now live in a super amusing and entertaining way. Quinn's comments about America wanting to spread democracy everywhere are especially sidesplitting and spot on. A total riot!

Sharp and insightful and witty

Warning: Spoilers
I have a feeling being in the live audience would have been electric, but still watching Long Story Short on DVD was still worthwhile for sure. SNL alum Colin Quinn has an insight that goes beyond the history books for sure, and he isn't afraid to pull his punches to make a point, especially about the British.

Colin Quinn is FRIGGIN' HILARIOUS!!!!
VBoston10 April 2011
I had just checked into a Motel 6 in Centralia Washington, exhausted from driving non-stop for about 12 hours from San Jose California, on my way to Seattle. I was weary, full of contempt and slightly sub-postal road-rage, and wanted nothing more than to drop my head on a pillow and pass out. I turned on the TV to find some background noise to drown out the freeway traffic and lull me to sleep. While thumbing through the channels on the hotel remote, a stand-up comedian talking about the Ancient Greeks seemed perfect. Only problem was, I started laughing...and kept laughing. Not just mildly amused laughs, but wiping the tears from my eyes 'cuz I'm laughing so hard laughs. Who would of thought history could be so funny?!!?

The hotel didn't have an HBO guide (cheap bastards) so I had to wait 'til they rolled the credits to find out who this funny SOB was. I will definitely buy the DVD/Bluray when it comes out and am very interested in seeing whatever else Colin Quinn has/is going to put out. I even signed up on his website! Colin Quinn, you have a new fan! When are you going on tour? Hope you bring your show to Seattle or LA. Me and my friends will definitely come to see it. You are the funniest comedian I've seen in a very long time. Jerry Seinfeld (he directed this show) is right, smart and dumb people can appreciate this show. Since Seinfeld (the show) ended, there seems to be a shortage of intelligent humor. Colin is like a crazy substitute History teacher that will have you laughing your ass off while you learn about us as a society and why the world is the way it is today. HBO, we want more stuff like this. Colin, keep doing what you're doing...you've struck gold.

Tripping Through History
nolarobert9 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Colin Quinn wrote and starred in this adapted Broadway show where he takes the audience on a trip through human history. He discusses human civilization down through the ages starting with the Greeks and running through most of the major cultures through the ages ending up with the state of modern America. Quinn does a great service to history by showing the impact of the connections that cultures have had on each other for better and for worse and he makes these stories about humanity interesting, funny and poignant. If we taught history in this manner maybe more people will take it seriously and learn from it rather than writing history off as being boring, dull or having nothing to do with their lives in our modern world. This comedy special is well worth your time and effort to watch and enjoy. It will hopefully heighten the viewer's appreciation of human history and help them understand why England has a crush on France and how the nations of the world wound up in a bar fight at 3 o'clock in the morning. I hope HBO adds plenty of extras from Quinn and director Jerry Seinfeld when this is released on DVD.

for Colin's fans
SnoopyStyle25 August 2016
Colin Quinn does a stand up HBO special.

This is a piece based on one concept.

It's a look at human nature reflected in history and our modern existence.

It's a dog eat dog world in his gruff sensibility.

It does feel long-winded going from one historical period after another.

It doesn't feel personal.

I like Colin enough in general but this one doesn't really connect with me.
