I love this show!
movie_lover71626 September 2011
Ever since I started to watch this show, I have been hooked. I watch it weekly. I have learned a lot from Jonathan and Drew. I love how they keep the cost low and stay inside the budget as they make the couples dream homes a reality. They bring in a lot of humor and part of themselves into each and every episode. When Jonathan is renovating, he will stop and say what is supposed to be done and correctly. And they use really cool technology to show the couple what their dream house could possibly look like. This is definitely something that I would recommend. Plus, Jonathan and Drew are amazingly cute as well. :D If you want a renovation show, with humor this is the show to watch.

This show was ruined for me

I got the bright idea to research how this show comes together, and learning the details of how fake it is ruined the show for me. Right now I'm only still watching it because I do like the interior design in different homes.

Great show concept, awful buyers
Ellerina9731 January 2021
I like this show a lot. I love renovation programmes and this one is great. I also really like the Property Bros. However, the majority of buyers are dreadful on this programme. They're either incredibly rude about other people's houses, or they spend all their time bothering Jonathan by constantly changing their plans and making his life difficult. I was just watching an episode where the owner of the house actually knew the buyer and even offered him an amazing deal on the house, and the wife of the couple proceeded to call the house tacky, ghetto and awful while they were looking around. How incredibly rude considering the owner was giving them such a good deal and actually knew the husband! I sometimes find this programme a bit difficult to watch due to how rude some of the buyers are.

My favorite "House Renovation" show
Mendocino-California6 August 2014
I have spent about five years of my life rehabbing all kinds of homes, business's and anything that has a roof on it. I like this show because its "classy" and is very grounded with lots of humor when a situation gets into a crisis. Every new home owner is treated with respect and their feelings and thoughts are highly valued and incorporated into their new home. I am always learning something.

I have never seen an unhappy customer with the property brothers... they always seem to come out over the top... making the new home owners... who are usually in so much fear from problems and financial investment... to utter ecstasy upon reveal of their new homes.

I am amazed at not only do they transform an ugly, dysfunctional, beat up home... to a beautiful palace where one would think Royalty would live... and or a billionaire. If every couple could have a property brothers experience... the world would be a much happier place to live in... maybe one day there will be a "Property Brothers University" to train people to team up and do this all over the world....if existed I would be there right now :)

Lame 1990s styling on everything...
rixrex11 August 2014
These guys are so out of touch with modern times it's a laugh to watch them. They are about 20 years behind times in their designs, You could be blindfolded and ears plugged, and you can tell exactly what's going on in the show.

They do everything this way:

1. Trick buyers into thinking they are seeing a property for sale, but it's all a scam to get them to go into a Renovation house. Sometimes. from what's been said about the show, this is all an act, the people already bought the house, Shame on the Bros!

2. View dumps and pick two to decide about. The buyers are told a Pie in the Sky story about how wonderful it will all turn out, then always get surprised by something. Don't they have home inspectors?

3. They always pick the crappiest one.

4. Every single home is reno'ed with that 1990s open floor design. Even if the house has some sort of historical appeal, the inside has to be gutted and redone in a style that is already dated as soon as it's done.

5. Stupid timelines to create a false impression of tremendous pressure to GET IT DONE! But if it can't be, they will extend the deadline.

6. Dumbass deconstruction with sledge hammers, wrecking good stuff that can be sent to recycling centers. Don't these guys know we're already past the year 2000 and recycling is smart?

7. More dumbass deconstruction of very nice retro period designs that only need some sprucing up, and then idiotic replacement with stuff a decade past it's day, but nowhere near retro yet.

8. Always the SAME THING week after week, show after show. The buyers' faces change.

And what is this stuff about most homes being over $500,000 up to $900,000? Where are they buying these things?

Time to turn the channel to This Old House, where they do things smartly and correctly without show business baloney.

Making Dream Homes
atlasmb28 December 2016
Drew and Jonathan Scott are the "Property Brothers". Though we never know exactly what happens off-camera, the concept involves the brothers convincing couples to renovate homes rather than buying new homes. Personally, I like that idea, because it seems wasteful on a macro level to dispose of older homes and develop more undeveloped land.

The brothers stress that they can renovate a house to meet the buyers' dreams of their ideal home. Furthermore, they can personalize the design and décor to the particular tastes of their "clients".

One brother handles the real estate transactions and the other supervises the actual renovation, including design. The couples who put themselves in their hands seem happy with the results. Besides the public's fascination with real estate renovation, the show leans heavily on the likability of the brothers, who seem to enjoy working together, though they indulge in healthy competition.

Love, love, LOVE Property Brothers
susan-mccrindle1 May 2011
Property Brothers is undoubtedly my new guilty pleasure!! I've been watching home renovation shows for awhile, but this is the first show that consistently leaves me wanting more (I'm even hooked on the reruns! LOL)! Jonathan & Drew are so down-to-earth and bring a great balance of humour while showing how buying a fixer-upper is feasible to most any budget. I've learned more about the process watching them then I have with any other show and laughed along the way too. I love how they detail out the costs, and when adjustments are made also show areas where the savings happen. My biggest struggle is fighting the urge to take a sledgehammer to my rental house! I've loved every episode...there is no way to pick a favourite! Way to go guys....can't wait for Season 2! I'm hoping when the time comes, I'll be able to work with the guys to get the home of MY dreams!

good show
mfalcon1-118 August 2012
love the show. the vision and the work. everyone does a great job!! it seems that they are showing less of the reno work lately~ which was also interesting. oh yeah, i agree , they are cute, sometimes annoying~so its good that they are cute (and savy)! i would like to see why certain design features were incorporated, particularly when it was not budget or layout related, especially when the owners did not specify. an example would be color choices for cabinets ,counter tops, textures for fireplace faces and flooring. finally, jonathan needs not to be so annoyed when people change their minds or add things. often he finds unforeseen obstacles (that should have been expected) and he expects the owners to understand and give up some of the design features. it goes both ways. unless jonathan is just being dramatic.... again.

Lovely brothers, awful buyers!
Jaxluvstelly22 September 2018
I love the show, I love the brothers and it's always great to see the renovations and the end result. What I don't like is how rude people can be about other people's houses, don't they realise that the owners will watch and hear their nasty remarks? Some of these people are so stuck up it's unbelievable, just because somebody has different taste or lives in a different way to you just not need you to say really nasty things. Perhaps it might be better to say "it's not to my taste." The people on the shows make me so cross I don't feel they deserve the help of the brothers and to get a lovely home at the end of it. They do not appreciate how lucky they are. I'll keep watching it anyway.

Seriously?

Seems to me that the brothers goad/coerce some of their clients into properties/repairs beyond their ability to pay in the future.

Property Brothers: Definitely a must-see show!
lindap12181 May 2011
I love this show! I was hooked from the 1st episode.

Out of the 13 episodes in season 1, all of them were intriguing to watch since all the couples had completely different styles, wish lists and budgets. Plus, with each episode you get to watch the handsome brothers combine their individual talents to make one dynamic team.

If I did have to pick one favourite episode, it would be the very first episode I watched with couple Stefan & Owen. Watching their doubting reactions when Drew showed them the older homes that had potential was over-the-top and funny. They couldn't even see Jonathan's vision of possibilities. They definitely changed their opinions and reactions at the incredible reveal.

Can't wait for season 2 and double the episodes.

Almost a 10
dswtl2chick24 September 2011
I would have given this show a higher review because overall I definitely feel it is MUCH better than the average 3.3 stars it is setting at right now. For me, as someone who loves the idea of a fixer-upper this is the dream show and is perfect for HGTV. The only issue I have with this show is the length. It is only a half hour and there is too much material vying for TV time. I feel an hour for these two seasoned individuals would be more adequate. A half hour devoted to looking at the fixer-uppers, the options of how they could be fixed up and then a half hour devoted for the demo, a deeper look at how the renovation went and the "before and after" shots.

The brothers are great. Those homeowners though...
JanieJane969 January 2017
The enjoyment of this show relies much on the natural charm and charisma of the Scott brothers. If you like them, you'll probably like the show. The identical twins are good looking, energetic, humorous, and good with often difficult homeowners. I love them! Those homeowners though... I don't know where they find some of these people or why they select them for the show. The Property Brothers have been on TV for a while, so it should be obvious to everyone what they do and how they do it. However, just about every episode includes homeowners who:

* Want to buy a move-in ready house with no renovations needed (rendering Jonathan useless, I guess).

* Want a house way out of their price range (a quick look at real estate listings could have told them that).

* Are super picky and controlling about every little detail (then why call a TV show that involves someone designing and renovating your home?).

It gets to the point where I think the show's producers just want to generate drama for the show by selecting homeowners that will butt heads with the brothers.

If it weren't for the lovable brothers, I would not bother watching this show. I would be happy to call them, and they can design my house however they want! I won't even fight them over backsplash tiles.

This show is great.

Warning: Spoilers
This show is very intriguing to me. I love how they setup the show. They have the couple pick out a house to remodel and go through all the different comparisons when trying to figure out their dream home.

They are very professional in how they deal with their clients. They show the difficulties in working with clients. In some ways it seems kind of simplistic but I don't think everything in this world has to be as difficult as people make it out to be.

I also like the fact that this is a clean show. You don't have any sexual references, language, etc. This is a completely clean show and it is refreshing that there are TV shows like this on TV still.

not believable
pleasegetreal1 February 2014
It's not possible to get the type of renovations shown on Property Brothers at the prices they claim. Unless you are having the work done by a family member, friend or subsidized TV show contractor, multiply the stated costs by at least 2.5 to get a more realistic idea of what this type of rehab will cost you. The show is somewhat entertaining, and it's interesting to see the type of run-down houses that are on the market for big prices. I noticed that they don't show all of the rooms on the show, only the glamor rooms like kitchen and living. Is it really a good idea to have the homeowners participate in knocking down walls and taking out windows?

Depends on What You Want
PartialMovieViewer16 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy the heck out of , "The Property Brothers." "Spoiler Alert "-"Spoiler Alert": The show does exactly what it's supposed to do, it entertains. This is not some do-it-yourself show; or design show – this is a 30 minute drama with some humor tossed in. Every week the stories are predictable and almost identical. New home buyers want spectacular houses in classy neighborhoods. To help the buyers better understand reality, the brothers present each couple 'that' fancy house, located in 'that' fancy neighborhood. Little do these future homeowners know is that all this fancyness costs a fancy price. Needless to say, it is very obvious when that eureka nerve is hit. All gleeness is sucked out of the home-hunters' eyes – instantly. "Spoiler Alert "-"Spoiler Alert": This is all part of the show. From that point on the show is all wheeling and dealing…and of course last minute scampering. "Spoiler Alert "-"Spoiler Alert": And don't forget…one of the homeowners will always be, 'The King or Queen of Jerks,' I love it. Stir the pot – can't beat this show. Excellent job.

Always the same thing
jastpeel-37-48365521 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
They trick the buyers by taking them to see a move-in ready property they cannot afford after which they convince them that renovation is the best way. The first words out of Johnathan's mouth are always, "We'll remove this wall." They then pump the cost to the maximum, or nearly the maximum, budget of the buyers. They don't put anything out to competitive bids so they get all of the money from the renovation. They always find the hidden "OMG we didn't see that coming!" thing that eats even further into the budget or the contingency. They then call in experts of their choosing once again not putting the job out to bid. My wife loves the program; but I find it boring and repetitive.

Love this Show
gailipoo16 April 2014
I find this show very entertaining. I am not a DIY person at all, but enjoy seeing what the Brothers do and the banter between them. Very smart of them to come up with idea of joining forces to help people find their perfect homes or help create them. They are very talented indeed and have produced some beautiful results. Hopefully people that tune in are learning from their expert advice and ending up with stunning rooms. I hope they continue to make this show for a few more years yet. I am thoroughly enjoying watching them entertain/remodel/house hunt with people. They clearly have good business instincts and it is working for them.

Jessica and Jonathan
sharee10030 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I love the show. It doesn't rate high enough to record the programs if I am not home, but it is entertaining. The way the brothers stay within the budget and give great results makes the show a must-watch program when I watch TV. I enjoy watching the buyers' faces as they see the "before" houses. But I could have done without the episode with whiny Jessica and the negative Jonathan. The results were great without the input of Jessica and Jonathan. I could see that the brothers were at the end of their rope with Jessica when they said they would give in to her one last time if she would stay away until the job was finished. I say "way to go guys!" You know better than the homeowners what will make the home work.

Come on now!
rodneyalberta6 June 2016
Watching an episode of Property Brothers and the young couple has 1.1 million to purchase a house. They look at a house that is too expensive (as everyone of these episodes goes) they get angry because they cannot afford it and ask the scripted question, "Why would you show us a house we cannot afford?" More scripted answers, then they show two or three really ugly houses.

My question is why would you spend all of that money to rehab an old ugly house only to discover there are "hidden" problems that will magically be solved for all or nearly all of your max budget, instead of just BUILDING A NEW HOUSE??? It could be an excellent show except for the scripting and high reno and staging costs. Why do the brothers have to pick such absurdly expensive furniture and appliances, most of which I would prefer to pick out myself? I also wonder how many of these homeowners end up being disappointed about spending so much money? I know, it is HGTV but some of this stuff is absurd.

funny and entertaiing
candyanngarcia-2733418 March 2019
These two brothers are funny and I love the way that they tease each other. I don't always like the challenges that they put on each other though when they compete with each other. I like their warmth with their clients and the jobs that they do with finding them a home and renovating their home or the home that they buy. Even though we may see only two that they choose and then the one that the choose to buy or renovate, I would suspect that they see a lot more than the two choices that they have to choose between. It would take too long for us to view on TV. lol The same with House hunters and Love it or List it.

Buyers are ignorant & the twins jump on that
djseven1214 May 2014
I liked the show at first but I then started watching it more often. I was beginning to think that the couples were actors because I thought no buyer could be this unprepared to buy a house or not ask the right questions, like can I see the furnace, or electric box or pipes in the plumbing etc. Do they look at the roof,no. And then they offer an amount on some properties without an inspection. Drew should never allow this to happen. So they are not actors, probably one of hundreds of couples lining up to be on a show. They do show them a dream home for hundreds of thousand dollar over their budget. Then the dumps they show them are way overpriced. disgusting curb appeal, half the size of the dream home. They show pretty much the whole house to be renovated, but they don't show the gross bedrooms & bathrooms after they renovate. So they have to live in that house with that horrible mess? The twins pretty much rush them into buying a house between two, one that Drew or Jonathon pretty much picks for them as one of their choices. They bind them into a corner. I've never seen Drew show them any paperwork, like comps., work permits, or the mortgage. They should also ALWAYS have a contingency fund of about say $20,000 so to not max out their budget on the house and part of the renovations. Then they wouldn't ever have to find money to change the plans. I am writing this today because I tuned in after about a year of not watching this show...nothing has changed. Drew is still the fast talker & Jonathon is still the illusionist, ( from reading his bio he does this as an act in Las Vegas). They still only do up to 4 rooms & they still say now you have your dream "home". I would have hi-tailed it out the door when they showed me the overpriced real Dream Home. Any normal, somewhat smart person or couple should have 1. seen the previous shows, 2. know from the entrance of a 3,000 to 4,000 sq. ft. home would have been way out of the budget from the get go... Can't watch this farce anymore. The guys are great entertainers and probably good at their trades but, come on...Really!!!!

Property Brothers is fantastic !!
w_scribner9 December 2012
I love this show!!! I watch new shows, tape new ones to make sure I don't miss them and watch repeats. I like these young guys, they seem to do great jobs understanding what people want and getting it done. The renovations they do are great!!! All of their renovations are so unique. I like watching shows like this and do watch several others from time to time, but this is the only one I try not to miss and will watch over and over. I like watching how they can show buyers the potential in the homes and then seeing the finished homes because they are always so close to the technical vision they show the buyers. What they do for fixer-uppers is nothing short of amazing !!!

Property Brothers
slfisher701 August 2015
This show is the poorest example of re-use re-purpose anything. Please do not have them do a historical home or it will end up with laminate floor their favorite and all the character will be torn out of the house. It seems like they ALWAYS have BIG surprises that cost the homeowners a chunk of change. I am not sure who they use for home inspections but they may want to find someone new. I would be mad if I bought a home and found out I need all new plumbing and or electrical. The last thing I would pay for is laminate floor in a "high end" up grade. Just a waste of time. THe new homeowners take them for their word. $3000-5000 for a header in a room. Who the heck are they using? Are they using solid steel headers for large spans? I know they custom order furniture which cost mega bucks and they could allow the homeowners more involvement in the decor side. stopped watching when they tore out an entire first floor of original hardwood floor on a period craftsman BECUZ they removed one wall and would have to find floor to match the small area they took out. Ripped it all out and put in laminate. What idiots allow them to some of the things. Tear out solid wood cabinets for some of the cheap laminate crap they put in is a shame. The never talk about refacing a cabinet or painting cabinet to save on money. Rehab attic and fixer upper BETTER CHOICES!
