After his swimming career, MGM hired him to play the lead in the studio's "Tarzan" movie, a role he went on to play twelve times. Now comes word that Michael Phelps is set to follow in Weissmuller's footsteps by taking on the Tarzan role in a remake of the classic film that will be directed by David Yates (Harry Potter) for Warner Bros. The Sunday Times reported the news, but says that the studio has yet to confirm anything.
