Let's talk about ...

Although actions say more than words, no? Well no pun intended either way. Also this could have done with a bit more seasoning (salt and pepper and all that). There are some very funny scenes (and both main actors are really good), but then you have scenes like the one in the sex club (or swinger or whatever) ... and it feels like it is a completely different, way lesser movie.

That all said, if you like the main characters (which is quite possible, see acting again) or some of the side characters, especially the co worker of the male protagonist), you may be able to overlook the flaws this has - especially in the comedy department! Which seems a strange thing to say for a comedy ... anyway, this is a decent comedy ... just suspend your disbelief and don't expect too much!

Better labeled a tragedy than a comedy

Another atrocity created by the minds of people who have zero clue what 90% of America lives like. This is why these hedonistic nonsense movies never hit home because nobody can relate to anything happening. Unfunny from beginning to end. Waste your time and life elsewhere this was an abomination.

I wish there was anything else to say about this film but tying a bunch more would also be another waste of life on a film undeserving of another minute. Save yourself. Save a friend. Tell anyone you know and possibly save them 1 hour 24 minutes of life. You could replace this time with anything and be better for it.

Entertaining light-hearted comedy

Warning: Spoilers
Saw this at Glasgow Film Festival. There was a lot of laughter in the room and the crowd loved it. What I really liked about the film was that it was both hilarious, but also very relatable, since a lot of the themes apply to most relationships and it's very easy to identify with the characters.

I also enjoyed the formal elements of the film, like the camera work or the not-so-subtle criticism of being constantly bombarded with sexual topics in ads and the media, which can lead to unhealthy pressures or anxiety (as in the case of the couple in this movie). The use of typography (for example when the male lead left his office and started seeing the last times people walking on the street had been doing the deed was one of the funniest scenes). The director was also very meticulous with arranging colours and blocking scenes. For example, the children were represented by the colour yellow, which completely disappeared from the couple's life (and the movie) when they get on the yellow school bus, until they return in yellow snowsuits and the couple realise what they've been missing the whole time.

Ultimately, the plot is very predictable, but at the same time, the audience found it so easy to root for the characters that any other ending would have felt like a rob and the movie itself contained enough twists and reveals (including a particularly awkward encounter in a swinger club) that it never felt boring. Finally, I liked that it addressed a very serious topic (dead bedrooms) in a light-hearted, but still somewhat nuanced manner that allowed to reflect upon one's own relationship(s).

a good movie

Once in a while you just get to have the opportunity to watch a completely random movie, due to being forced to watch it on a flight, just tuning in by coincidence on tv or just clicking blindfolded on netflix.

This is one of those movies, it is unknown without any real marketing behind it.

First lets start with the positives. It has a very interesting premise, it is about the sexual exploration of a middle aged couple who have troubles connecting in bed. The characters themselves on a template are interesting, you have the extrovert wife who is desperately trying everything to liven up the lackluster sex life by putting her husband in all sorts of perverted situations, you have the introvert husband who has all the wrong neurosis preventing him from reaching climax. Even the side characters are interesting on paper, you have the nerdy awkward but seductive husbands coworker who has a buddy-buddy relationship with him and the old childhood sweetheart of the wife who openly embarasses himself by being way too agressive with his advances on her.

It is funny, it is interesting on paper. Heck the movie is even very well shot and lit. Thing is, the actors are just terrible.

Or would i rather say, they would be very passable at a high school play. But when actors can only perform at that level on a production that was obviously over a million in budget it sticks out like a sour thumb. The dialogue is pretty subpar as well but it does not stick out as much as the actors.
