Not a good documentary

Ancient Aliens is a show that runs on the History channel, dedicated to arguing extraterrestrials helped build human civilization, along with the Pyramids and Stonehenge, in ancient times. It is ridiculous much of the time, as archaeologists have demonstrated how the Pyramid-building skills were perfected over time by humans, rather than given to Egyptians as perfect instructions. Sometimes the leaps in logic are embarrassing- if something is old, it must be alien. At times the show is entertaining.

Alien Devestations is an episode that fails. It basically argues aliens are responsible for natural disasters that plague people to this day. And not just Noah's flood, which the Bible states was God's work. It points to UFO sightings before and during the 2004 Asian tsunami, so we're supposed to assume they were related. Post hoc ergo propter hoc. But a big problem with this episode is that it is unfocused. It is supposed to be about natural disasters, but spends a great deal of time on how humans themselves are part-alien. One person even argues humans are 80% alien and 20% ape. Funny, then, that geneticists put the similarity between humans and chimps at 94%.

Aliens may have visited us in ancient times, they may have inspired tool use by setting up a monolith, but let's give our ancestors some credit. And, when it comes to disasters, let's give Mother Nature some credit too.
