Great beginning to the 4th season
joshua-verse95 January 2016
I was so excited when Dr. Ogden left at the end of season 3, but I was afraid they would bring her back. Thankfully, we get a new medical examiner who brings some wonderful conflict to our cozy little constabulary.

This first installment of the fourth season is much less lighthearted than previous seasons and adds some depth to Murdoch's character. The tension among the characters feels natural and is more fun than frustrating (as the tension between Murdoch and Dr. Ogden often was).

The murder of the week seems to serve to develop these tensions, but it was still intriguing on its own and the outcome is more thought-provoking and emotionally resonant than most. I look forward to the rest of this season.

Already tired of the wounded puppy dog face on Murdoch

This couple, Murdoch and Dr. Ogden, are a mismatch waiting to happen. She is modern and knows 'there's a whole world out there, Jack' (Phryne Fisher); while he has a pole up where the sun don't shine. So rigid and controlling, only when she up and leaves does he try to bribe her to stay. Even though he says he wants the best for her, he really doesn't. Though I do appreciate the humor of the Inspector and Crabtree; they have more facets to their personality than the star.

Using techniques from 2000s to solve crimes in 1800s
interestingstuff16 September 2022
In this episode Murdoch uses many techniques that wouldn't be available for another 100 years after his time such as trace analysis, DNA testing, finger print matching along with many others.

In many episodes he uses techniques that were ahead of his time by 10-20 years but in this episode he uses super advanced techniques that wouldn't be available until 2000s. Not only would those techniques not be available during Murdoch's time but no one would have even heard of or even conceived them at the time.

The way he identified 3 people from random body parts wouldn't be possible even today without doing a DNA analysis and even then he'd have to have matches for those DNA samples in the database in order to be able to match them.

This episode could fall into category of fairy tale since everything in this episode was as realistic as a scooby doo episode. They should have filmed this episode as a cartoon since the story was written as a cartoon and made about as much sense as a cartoon.
