So Much Under the Surface
Hitchcoc15 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It turns out that Rosie drowned inside the car belonging to Richmond, the Mayoral candidate. Through the first two episodes we see the spinning of events by his campaign staff. He seems to be a straight shooter, but his people are suspect. Meanwhile, Rosie's family must tell their boys while keeping details away from people they know. Of course, this is to keep the killer unaware that there are forces out there. Sarah does what she can, bringing in kids that were at the Halloween party, but no one seems to be willing to say they even saw her. When she leaves to go back home, she hands things over to Stephen who does some different police work and discovers a horrible place. The Larsen's, especially Mitch, are beset by guilt. The house is searched. We can already see that Sarah is hooked on this case. The final scene is extremely sad.

The Killing - The Cage
Scarecrow-883 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The second episode is really potent dramatically with how the Larsens must deal with the loss of Rosie, telling their sons and dealing with the police searching through their house for evidence. Meanwhile, Sarah and Stephen question kids at the school, hoping someone can provide crucial details that will lead them to Rosie's killer. This episode, instead, leads Stephen to a location where a bloody act took place in the school…in a "party place" where naughty kids do naughty things called "the cage." This new story thread keeps the viewer off balance as one tragedy only leads the detectives to other unexpected developments. The political campaign of Richmond goes through a series of ebbs and flows just in this one episode as what appears to be a case where the campaign car that held Rosie's body could have been stolen and the councilman could possibly save face with a crucial ally linked to the unions in the city only for his fortunes to falter after a reporter seems to continue to get secrets within the camp from a mole source. It appears as if one of Richmond's close company, Yes man, Jamie (Eric Laden) or his lover and manager, Gwen (Kristin Lehman), could very well be opposing him behind his back. The show alternates between the Larsens coping with loss, the political roller-coaster of Richmond's campaign, and Sarah having to determine if she will stay in Seattle to help Stephen catch Rosie's killer or leave for San Diego. The discovery of the cage and a crime scene certainly might halt Sarah's trip to a new home.
