Bethenny Frankel just missed the cut for Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice,” revealing on Monday that she was the first alternate for the sophomore season of the popular NBC reality TV competition that aired in the early to mid-2000s.
A natural foods chef at the time, Frankel auditioned for Season 2 of “The Apprentice” (2004) and advanced through multiple rounds of casting before being being informed by producers that she would not make the final 18 contestants. Kelly Perdew ultimately won that season and a position within the Trump organization.
“I was on the normal person’s ‘Apprentice,’ meaning not ‘The Celebrity Apprentice,'” Frankel recalled. “I was selling these Bethenny Bakes cookies at a trade show at a booth. And I asked my partner at the time if he could get me the cheapest, smallest video camera — I didn’t know how to use one — and I asked him to record me selling cookies…...

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows CEO on 'Undercover Boss': Jonny Moseley keeps Andy Wirth under cover
Andy Wirth, president and CEO of ski resorts Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows in California, was the titular boss in this week's episode of popular CBS reality series "Undercover Boss." As part of the show, which gives high-ranking executives an inside look at what it's like to be one of their employees, Wirth worked in the ski patrol, as a snowboard instructor, and as an employee on his terrain park.
"Ever since I started as CEO, I have focused on spending time on the mountain with our guests and staff engaging in the experience," said Wirth in a statement. "I saw this as a great opportunity to work with our team, side-by-side on a very real level. I came away from the experience incredibly proud of our hard working employees and honored to be a part of this extraordinary team."

Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil had a rough 2010, what with his arrest for DUI and devastating loss on Skating With The Stars, and his 2011 isn’t getting any better. Neil is heading to jail for two weeks as a result of the DUI.
Had Neil not struck a plea deal, he could have ended up in the slammer for six months. Instead, he agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence which means he’ll serve two weeks in jail and spend two weeks under house arrest as a result of driving his Lamborghini down the Las Vegas Strip while drunk. (If that’s not the most clichéd rock star thing to do ever, we don’t know what is.) Neil has a long, sad history of alcohol abuse and this isn’t his first time being sentenced to jail. ABC has been running their new reality show on Monday nights, Skating with the Stars. With a similar format, it took over for the network's immensely popular Dancing with the Stars in the Monday night timeslot. Last night, the competition came to a close with actress Rebecca Budig taking home the golden skates trophy. Will she be the series' first and last winner? Does ABC have another big hit on their hands or a disappointment that will be cancelled and quickly forgotten?

The first-ever 'Skating With the Stars' champ was named tonight and awarded a pair of golden skates.
Judge Johnny Weir opened up the show with a "fabulous" (to quote host Vernon Kay) caged bird routine choregraphed by fellow judge Laurie Ann Gibson.
Among the returning skaters, third place Jonny Moseley seemed to have entirely lost his mojo, stumbling several times during his routine, but finishing with a smile.
So, who took home the golden skates -- soap star Rebecca Budig or reality queen Bethenny Frankel?

Tonight, someone will glide off the ice as the Skating with the Stars Season 1 champion. And that's no easy feat: This season's injuries and hospital visits have shown how difficult this reality competition is. Five weeks ago, Bethenny Frankel, Jonny Moseley, Rebecca Budig, Vince Neil, Brandon Mychal Smith and Sean Young took to the ice, and now only two are left standing. And for the eventual winner, perhaps the glow of achievement will melt the ice. — Jennifer Sankowski

ABC's newest reality show Skating With The Stars continued tonight as four celebrities took to the ice rink to perform increasingly risky routines alongside a professional skater and were marked by the judges out of ten for both their technical merit (Tm) and artistic impression (AI). Tonight's episode included a group skate where contestants had a chance to earn extra points to add to this week's scores, as the judges awarded each pair one cumulative score for the routine. The individual rounds were without theme and pairs were allowed a "free skate" to choose their own routines. Jonny Moseley & Brooke Castile became the fourth pair to leave the competition this week after receiving the lowest combined score from the judges as well as the lowest number of votes from the public. Something surprising finally happened on "Skating With the Stars" -- and it wasn't just the fact that this apparently isn't the last episode.
That's right. The "Swts" finale is a two-nighter, and one of the competition's early favorites won't be in attendance "Who?" you ask. Well, you can plainly see in the headline, but let's just run through the penultimate routines in the spirit of protocol.
The Group Dance:
Somehow amateurish figure skating is infinitely more digestible when it's set to Christmas music, but isn't everything? The three finalists spinning in circles to "All I Want For Christmas Is You" was sweet -- but it didn't rock the score boat. Rebecca distinguished herself from runner-up Jonny Moseley, who was just marginally better than Bethenny Frankel.
Rebecca Budig and Fred Palascak (66 out of 70)
Though we'd object that it was a tad too schmaltzy, Budig's free-skate was an appropriate culmination of her incredible 10-week progress.

The rumors were true: Disney star Brandon Mychal Smith left 'Skating With the Stars' after a nasty bout with food poisoning prevented him from performing last week. Tough judge Johnny Weir thought Smith should have skated despite being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Last night, Smith officially bowed out, saying he was still too weak to continue.

The tension and awkwardness is mounting over at "Skating With the Stars," with last week's absentee competitor officially succumbing to illness and a beloved underdog really butting heads with the apparently irritable Johnny Weir.
But that's what you wanted, isn't it, America -- some drama chilled to 32 degrees Fahrenheit?*

Sources close to Smith tell TMZ.com the actor has been left so weak by the ailment, he's barely able to stand.

We laughed at the concept of Skating With The Stars when we first heard about it because it was like all the glitz and camp of Dancing With The Stars with less star power and more dangerously sharp blades. It seemed like a recipe for disaster and yet we’ve still never watched—but we’re thinking we should start now that it really is becoming an actual disaster for some of the contestants. This week alone, three of the show’s participants have had health problems. Disney Channel star Brandon Mychal Smith was hospitalized yesterday after he had trouble breathing (it was later determined to either be a virus or food poisoning). He was unable to participate in last night’s broadcast. Brooke Castile, the skater paired with Olympian Jonny Mosely, had to go to the ER to get stitches after she sliced her finger open on the ice,...

Chopped up fingers! Vomiting skaters being rushed to the hospital! Is ‘Skating With the Stars’ finally getting interesting?
It’s time for another fun week of Skating With the Stars were we learned Bethenny Frankel has no rhythm, everyone on this show is on course to suffer some major injury and Vince Neil reaffirmed the fact that white men can not, in fact, jump.
Dressed as what I must assume was a Ups man Vince took to the ice as a man on a mission. Not quite sure what the mission was and it likely should have been aborted before it even began, but hey he didn’t fall this week! He did however jump about an inch off the ice and did look much more natural than Bethenny. Sadly this was not enough and Vincey went home. It’s for the better though dude, people are dying on this ice.

Week 2 taught us that celebrity carnage didn't bring us the happiness we expected, but Week 3 reveals that it certainly makes for compelling TV.
We're already at the halfway mark on "Skating With the Stars," and it's clearly taking its toll on the cast.
Brandon Mychal Smith left rehearsals in an ambulance earlier on show day, right around the time Jonny Moseley's partner Brooke Castile took a skate to the hand, slicing her finger to the bone.
ABC made us sweat out the episode to see if Smith would make it back in time to perform (he didn't), while Castile, in a show of super trooper-dom, skated with her hand in a brace.
So what do we with our stars in stitches and slings? Make 'em jump! The Week 3 challenge requires a leap from the ice and a one-foot landing. Let's see who was up to the task.

U.S. reality TV show Skating With The Stars has been blighted by another injury - Brooke Castile requires stitches after contestant Jonny Moseley slashed his partner's finger with his skates.
Actor/rapper Brandon Mychal Smith was admitted to hospital on Monday after experiencing difficulty breathing during rehearsals.
And Monday night's show was thrown into further jeopardy after Olympic skier Moseley cut his professional partner Castile's skin when he accidentally kicked her after she fell on the ice during practice.
Castile was "bleeding all over" and the skater checked into hospital to have the wound stitched up shortly before the live programme was due to air - but she is planning to go ahead with the competition, reports TMZ.com.
Smith was absent from the starting line-up when the weekly TV contest kicked off on Monday night and, as WENN went to press, it was not known whether he or Castile would be able to perform.

After the second week of Skating with the Stars, it is clear that this show is a work in progress and that there are three skaters who are decent to pretty darn good who are keeping things interesting (Jonny Moseley, Brandon Smith and Rebecca Budig) and those who are, to put it kindly, skating challenged (Vince Neil, Sean Young and Bethenny Frankel.) Beginning with the best skaters, Jonny once again charmed the socks off of the judges, who appreciated that he is beginning to look like a real figure skater. The performance flair that is part of freestyle skiing is definitely helping him in this competition. Oh, and did I mention he.s cute? Really cute! That will...

It's tempting to think that "Skating With the Stars" will be just like "Dancing With the Stars," except even better. After all, it's basically the same show, except it adds an infinitely more difficult physical activity and tosses in ice (which, of course, ups the potential for danger). If we were to create a professional wrestling metaphor, "Skating With the Stars" would be like Extreme Championship Wrestling, with less polish but more potential for mayhem.
Unfortunately, "Skating With the Stars" — which had its season premiere last Monday night (November 22) and continued last night (Monday, November 29) — is not quite the entertainment explosion that it should be. Though the lineup doesn't quite have the same pop as your average "Dancing With the Stars" season, it's still pretty dynamic: Professional skier (and former MTV's "The Challenge" host) Jonny Moseley, Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, reality TV staple Bethenny Frankel, Disney actor Brandon Mychal Smith,...

New moves were added to the skater’s routines this week as half managed to wipe out on the ice!
America’s favorite ice floored dance competition returned Nov. 29 and did not disappoint as the six “skaters” on Skating With the Stars tried to impress the judges with some new fancy footwork. It didn’t really work out for any of them.
Jonny Moseley continued to blow away the competition with an impressive lift and some pretty sweet ice moves. Shocking coming from the gold medal Olympist.
Vince Neil, the large body on skates, managed to not look so rock-and-roll as he wiped out on the ice in his program, landing him in the bottom two.
Bethenny Frankel continued her streak of being wonderfully middle ground as she managed to not wipe out and complained about the lack of sleep she is getting as a new mom. Maybe you should...

['Skating With the Stars' - 'Season 1, Episode 2']
In the second week of 'Skating With the Stars,' there were a few falls as skaters added tricky moves like fancy footwork and lifts, and the first star was eliminated.
The judges attempted to figure out tough moves of their own, like getting the correct score paddle. Veteran skater Dick Button seemed to have trouble with his paddles, saying "8" but flashing a "7" to Jonny Moseley.
The confusion continued as clueless host Vernon Kay's comment on the mix-up was also inaccurate. Oops. Kay also referred to Vince Neil's partner Jennifer Wester, as "Brooke," (Jonny's partner) before correcting himself. Hmm, does he realize this show is live?
Read on to see who went home and who's still skating.

We'd been waiting and waiting for the carnage to begin on "Skating With the Stars," and when it finally did... it left us feeling empty inside.
Other people's misfortunes normally give us such pleasure, but there was no laughing at Sean Young or Vince Neil when they came crashing down on their famous behinds in this second round of "Swts."
So what did we learn this week aside from the fact that we just might have a soul? Well, for one, this show is markedly more entertaining now that they've ripped off the broadcast band-aid. Once it became clear that collective skepticism couldn't cause the studio to burst into flames, everyone seemed a lot more comfortable the second time around -- including Mr. Dick Button, whose mixed metaphors make us wish we could adopt him from the grandpa orphanage.

ABC's newest reality show Skating With The Stars continued tonight as six celebrities took to the ice rink to perform increasingly risky routines alongside a professional skater and were marked by the judges out of ten for both their technical merit (Tm) and artistic impression (AI). Sean Young & Denis Petukhov also became the first pair to be eliminated after receiving the lowest combined score from the first two performances, receiving only 64 out of a possible 120 points. "I thank Denis for giving me one of the greatest experiences in my life!" Sean said after receiving the axe. "I'll take away a very worn in pair of skates and an experience I'll never be able to have again." Here's what the judges said about the contestants' second performances:

I discovered one thing while watching ABC's Skating with the Stars last night. The sound I kept hearing was not metal scraping ice, it was reality TV scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Actually, that may be a bit unfair. Skating is really no worse than the show that preceded it, but this whole " ______ with the Stars" genre needs to be nipped in the bud.
At the very least, they need to look outside these boring challenges, and offer up something unexpected. For instance, Red Light/Green Light with the Stars, or Chainsaw Juggling with the Stars.
As for Skating, it was pretty much what it was expected to be, a low-rent copy of Dancing with the Stars, with one notable exception.
The fabulous judge Johnny Weir.
Johnny was one of three judges tasked with doling out seemingly random scores to six minor celebrities and their professional skating partners. He...

Bully for CBS: Despite intense interest in the second-to-last episode of Dancing With the Stars, CBS took Monday in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic. The network posted a 3.5 rating/10 share, with How I Met Your Mother earning a 3.5/10 and 8.9 million, followed by Rules of Engagement (2.9/8, 8.1 million), Two and a Half Men (4.5/12, 14.3 million), Mike & Molly (up 8 percent to a 4.0/10, 12.9 million), and Hawaii Five-o (3.2/9, 12 million).
Each 18-49 ratings point equals 1.3 million viewers. CBS was second for the night in viewers with 11.4 million.
ABC, no surprise, was No. 1 in total viewers last night with 15.1 million and second in the demo (3.4/9). These numbers are...

Skating With the Stars debuted last night, and although British host Vernon Kay (no Tom Bergeron) did his best to repeatedly assure us that this was the most dangerous live competition on TV — “The performances will be just as explosive, the costumes even tinier, but there is an added element of danger — razor-sharp blades of steel strapped to the feet of six very nervous stars!” — no one even fell during their debut performances. At least we got some serious spills in the training montages. (Vince Neil fell more than all the other contestants combined, we were told.) After all, Kay promised,...

At a time when every star of diminishing fame would do anything for attention, it should really say a lot that ‘Skating With the Stars’ could only find six contestants, and one would be hard pressed to find anyone who could identify even half of them.
Jonny Moseley is a very impressive skater, and skier too being a gold medal Olympian. It is wonderful to see Laurieann Gibson, she of Making the Band fame, back on television. Johnny Weir did a great job skating to “Poker Face” for the hundredth time in front of a national audience. These are almost certainly the only three positive things one could say about the never ending premiere of Skating With the Stars.
Skating is incredibly hard, it makes the Dancing With the Stars contestants look like wimps, so Sean Young, Vince Neil, Brandon Mychal Smith, Bethenny Frankel, Rebecca Budig, and Jonny should most certainly be applauded.

ABC's newest reality show Skating With The Stars premiered on Monday night as six celebrities took to the ice rink to perform routines alongside a professional skater in front of three expert judges - Laurieann Gibson, Dick Button and Johnny Weir - and were marked out of ten for both their technical merit (Tm) and artistic impression (AI). Here's what the judges said about their first performances: Brandon Mychal Smith & Keauna McLaughlin
Brandon says that he's never skated before but this proves that when you put your mind to something anything can happen. His partner is Keanua, who is a two-time National Champion and describes her skating style as "passionate and edgy". Dick: He calls it an "impressive start" and thinks Brandon has a "spiffy personality". He thinks Brandon looked comfortable on the ice most of the time but (more)...

Much like that Daniel Day-Lewis movie about oil prospecting and milkshakes, it looks like we're going to have to wait a bit for the blood we've been promised.
Sure, ABC may not be plugging "Skating With the Stars" as a dystopian battle to the death were celebrities are forced to dance on knives over unforgiving ice... but that's sort of why you're tuning in, right?
Yes, it's our morbid curiosity about what might go wrong that draws us to "Swts." Though, after the premiere, it looks as though we'll also have some rather exciting performances to look forward to -- while we wait for carnage.
So what do we have to say of this first taste of skating? Let's break it down couple by semi-recognizable couple:
Brandon Mychal Smith and Keauna McLaughlin (36, out of 60)
What do they put in the water over at the Disney Channel? Their lesser known male...

"You might like watching stars fall over -- and let's face it, who doesn't? -- then you've come to the right place," began over-the-top 'Skating With the Stars' host Vernon Kay. Hey, he's got us there.
Sadly, the premiere denied us a really good celebrity face plant on live TV, although there were plenty of practice falls. Given that no one actually wiped out, the judges were mostly kind to the new skaters.
The stars skating for your votes: 'All My Children' star Rebecca Budig, 'Real Housewives' reality star Bethenny Frankel, Olympic skier Jonny Moseley, former Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, Disney star Brandon Mychal Smith, and 'Blade Runner' actress Sean Young.
