Skins 5 is almost reaching the high level of the best episodes from Season 1 & 2. Why is it still fresh after five seasons? Because of the scripts: they ooze sincerity, even if situations are obviously larger than life, but if scripts didn't ooze sincerity, the series wouldn't be so successful in portraying not only the teenage wasteland, but life, in some ways. Never as with this season the parents of our heroes are real folks, not the typical parent who doesn't care about you and no child would have around. This time we get to know Liv: at first I thought she was a naughtier version of Jal (if Mini was the new Michelle, someone had to be the new Jal), and I couldn't stand her fierce, party-girl attitude. Getting to know her was a pleasure, because I was put in front of a very fragile, confused, messed up girl who has to hide her own weaknesses if she wants to survive. The episode went from aerial and dreamy tones of the scenes with Matty (such a great character) to the tough and sad sequences involving a furious Mini, and Liv's mother and sisters. It was just like living a whole roller-coaster day with Liv. I must mention the soundtrack, which contains a lot of interesting alternative artists (The National, Best Coast, Beach House, a beautiful revival of an old Simon and Garfunkel song).

A very strong episode

Another particularly strong episode, season 5 is turning out to be incredibly high in quality, The Liv story has arguably been one of, if not the best, such an interesting character, given such an intriguing and complex family story, they packed so much into 50 minutes. Liv is a cracking character, she has a diverse family, her sisters, her kooky mum (brilliantly portrayed by Jaye Griffiths, and her involvement with Matty, who has been one of the best characters this season. Her relationship with Mini has been one of the best things about this series, why would she put up with her, and can she live with committing the ultimate betrayal. A very strong episode indeed.
Liv Sleeps With Mini's BF, Meets BF's Brother

Liv and Mini's bf have sex in a trailer. Mini calls and her bf lies that he is with his buddies grabbing pop tarts.
Liv's mom is furious about her coming home late. She says she is out of control and doesn't understand why they do those kind of things. Liv's mom is off for a few days again for work.
Liv has a party at her place. Mini talks with Liv while she makes drinks saying that her bf does love her after all and they have been having so much sex she has carpet burns on her ears. Mini has no clue but talks so much - Liv has been sleeping with her bf as well.
Liv is off to get Sherry and drops her sister to a theatre. She goes to visit their older sister in jail during visiting hours. The sister says she was fighting with another inmate about soap during the showers and if can survive this place, Liv can survive people saying she had sex with Mini's bf.
Liv speaks to a stranger outside the jail. A male inmate rushes by and Liv falls into the arms of the stranger. We find out later this stranger is Mini's bf's brother. They decide to share the drugs together given to them by that male inmate.
They shoplift at a convenience store and enter a costume emporium. The owner suggests a blazer for Liv and Liv goes to the change area. The owner tells her to look up at the CCTV and proceeds to try to take her clothes off. Bf's bro comes to the rescue throwing something at the owner and rushes to the front for the cassette tape and cash register. A woman outside pounds on the door looking to return her costume.
Dressed in full animal suits, bf's bro and Liv run out and go to a quiet area. They have sex and there is a hot scene of bro being on top and we see this butt.
Liv asks the bro when they wake up the next morning to go with him wherever he is going.
Liv brings her bf to the party back at her place. She goes to her room to continue the lovemaking. They find Mini sitting upright on her bed and someone moving under the sheets completely covered.
We find out the two boys are brothers. They are not on good terms.
Liv screams for everyone to get out of the house and breaks off with bf's bro. She changes her mind as we see her run to the station pleading with the stranger to stay with her. She drinks way too much and he ends up taking her in his care. She throws up.
