Bet’s “The New Edition” story traces the dramatic rise of Boston’s New Edition. But the group’s legacy goes way beyond its string of hits. Bobby Brown went solo after being ejected from the group in 1985, though he would later reunite with his bandmates. He did fine on his own, knocking out hits like “My Prerogative” and “Every Little Step.” After Brown’s exit, Michael Bivins recruited solo artist Johnny Gill to join the group in 1987. Gill was the only member of New Edition who wasn’t from Boston. When Ralph Tresvant went solo, he ushered in an...

[Editor’s Note: “Girl, I must warn you…” this review will make liberal use of New Edition, Bobby Brown, and Bell Biv Devoe song titles and lyrics. Why? That’s “My Prerogative.”]
It may seem like a stretch to compare Bet’s “The New Edition Story” to the critically acclaimed biopic “Straight Outta Compton.” After all, N.W.A.’s gangsta rap courted controversy while New Edition’s lyrics only got salty when they accused “Mr. Telephone Man” of a faulty connection. Nevertheless, just as N.W.A. shaped hip-hop, the miniseries gives rightful context to how influential New Edition was on its own. Styled as a New Edition of the Jackson 5, the group perfected the model for all the boy bands to come, including New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men, ’N Sync, and the Backstreet Boys. They also successfully transitioned from the bubble gum style of their early songs to becoming pioneers of New Jack Swing.

As with N.W.A., the drama of just being in New Edition is part of the story’s trainwreck/bootstrap appeal.

Finally, Sam Bailey will take on Whitney Houston's 1985 track 'How Will I Know?' as Tamera Foster goes for the Rihanna hit 'We Found Love'.
The X Factor continues tomorrow at 8pm on ITV.

From the beginning of his career, Mike Tyson has been irresistible to Hollywood's various screens: when you're the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world with a high-pitched lisp, you're an instant surreal punchline. Iron Mike has played along in a slew of rap videos, movies ranging from Rocky Balboa to Scary Movie 5, and TV shows ranging from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit to The Simpsons (which rendered an unauthorized version of him as Drederick Tatum). Here's seven of our favorite Tyson cameos over the years.

Los Angeles — Fergie may have been absent – but the Black Eyed Peas were joined by another female diva onstage: Alicia Keys.
Keys sang "Where Is the Love" with the pop-rap group at will.i.am's charity event Thursday night at The Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles. British singer Estelle also sang Fergie's portion of "The Time (Dirty Bit)."
Will.i.am's TRANS4M benefit show – which assists his i.am.angel foundation – also featured Bobby Brown and Ludacris, who both earned roaring cheers from the crowd of several hundred.
Will.i.am. said at the end of the evening that he raised $3.3 million.
"We're having fun, but we're also collecting funds," he told the crowd.
Will.i.am introduced Grammy-winning Keys to the audience saying: "Are you ready for a strong woman?"
The R&B singer performed "Girl on Fire" and "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart."

Bobby Brown's next step is maintaining his innocence. The "Every Little Step" singer pleaded not guilty on Friday in a Los Angeles court to multiple DUI charges resulting from his drunken driving bust last month, E! News has learned. Brown was pulled over around 1 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2012, for driving erratically near the city of Tarzana, Calif., and officers discovered he was behind the wheel without his court-mandated dashboard Breathalyzer. Deputy City Attorney Diego Edber, who is prosecuting Brown, tells E! News that the R&B star was not in court but that his attorney, Tiffany Feder, entered not guilty pleas on his behalf to the following three misdemeanor counts: driving under the influence...

These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. We decided to subject Bobby Brown to our #nofilter quick-fire question and answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?
Trouble doesn't faze Bobby Brown, the R&B singer, reality show star ("Being Bobby Brown") and former husband of Whitney Houston.
Singing in the boy band New Edition made him a music sensation, and hits like "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step" during his successful solo career made Brown a household name. But, as of late, the singer's battle with substance abuse, including reports of two DUI arrests this year, has generated bigger headlines than his 2012 album, "The Masterpiece."
So while Brown was headed for the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit to...

Vocal Point have become the latest group to exit The Sing-Off following a week of R&B performances. The top five groups each performed one contemporary R&B track and one classic R&B song on Monday night's show in a bid to make the Top 4 and get one step closer to the recording contract and $$200,000 prize. Vocal Point took on the Bobby Brown track 'Every Little Step' for their first performance, admitting in a pre-performance package that they were struggling to put the choreography and music together, which was affecting their sleep and school work. However, their hard work appeared to pay off when judge Ben Folds said he was impressed they had combined the choreography and music into a "really good and fun" performance, while Sara Bareilles said her "jaw was on the floor" at the choreography and "super (more)...

The final five groups on The Sing-Off will each sing two R&B hits on tonight’s episode, airing at 8pm/7pm Central on NBC. The first half of the show will be dedicated to contemporary R&B tunes, while the second half will feature classic hits. After last week’s country installment, this week’s set list seems like a better fit for all the remaining groups, with the possible exception of those very white guys from Byu’s Vocal Point. Here’s what you can expect to hear:
Opening Number: “I Feel Good,” James Brown; “ABC,” Jackson 5; “Forget You,...

We've got the Top 12 on "The X Factor" tonight - what did you think? Who is going home the first time America votes?
1. The Stereo Hogzz, "Rhythm Nation"
I don't love the opening. It sounds weird and thin to me, but once the "5-4-3-2-1" counts down and the group parts kick in, I love it. The dancing is great, the harmonies are tight, the costumes are fantastic. This song is 22 years old, but it sounds very current. (As an aside - I can't believe this song is old enough to drink). The judges are very complimentary and Paula is a proud mama. I feel like she choreographed that video for Janet Jackson, but I looked it up and she did not. But she did several Janet videos.
2. Chris Rene, "Superstar"
Great pick for him. How do you not connect lyrically with this song? It's gorgeous. The hip-hop...

It was a night full of high praise, with Astro, Josh Krajcik and Melanie Amaro all earning the judges' approval as well.

There was no shortage of praise doled out by the judges on Wednesday's (November 2) episode of "The X Factor," with two performers hailed as budding superstars, one compared to a young Michael Jackson and a group praised as one of the world's best bands. And those acts weren't even considered the evening's front-runners!
Here's a recap of Wednesday's performances, and the compliments that followed:
The Girls
Following her rendition of the Eagles' "Desperado," Melanie Amaro was dubbed "the one to beat" in the competition by Cowell. Meanwhile, Rachel Crow's take on "Walking on Sunshine" caused Scherzinger to compare the 13-year-old to Jackson 5-era Michael Jackson, and Drew — formerly known as Drew Ryniewicz — wowed the judges with her unorthodox take on Nelly's "Just a Dream,...

On tonight’s Live to Dance, the last 6 of the semi-finalists competed for a spot in the finals which begin next week. I’m seriously scratching my head here, as yet another curve ball was pitched at us. While last week they said only one act would move through, in fact the process tonight was the same as before: One act moved through by the experts, and one act to be voted through by America. Here I thought I had poor math skills, but they couldn’t even follow their own math! This does present complications for next week’s finals, and more on that later.
First up was the result of America’s votes from last week, and the winner was Twitch, the group of kids whose dance I just didn’t understand, but apparently America gets it. On to the breakdown of tonight’s performances:
Dance Town Chaos (Miami,...
