The first episode of Marvel’s Agatha All Along starts from an unexpected place. Picking up her broom and flying into another freewheelin’ genre parody that made WandaVision an early delight, Agatha navigates an episode of Mindhunter as creator-director Jac Schaeffer wades into a genre Marvel has successfully dipped its toe in before: horror.

Last Christmas saw the release of What If...? season 2 and with Agatha All Along wrapping up just in time for Halloween, the hope was that we might get another Marvel Animation series before the year is over.
It's previously been reported that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man might debut in 2024, but according to The Cosmic Circus, we shouldn't expect to see the wall-crawler on Disney+ until 2025 at the earliest.
"We can report that our sources have informed us of a delay for Marvel animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man until 2025," reads an X post shared by the site. "Sorry, Spidey fans!"
This is disappointing and we don't necessarily anticipate What If...? season 3 being ready in the next couple of months either. Marvel Zombies has been in production for a while, though that's surely a series Marvel would save for next Halloween.

For Marvel fans, the word "endgame" will always be associated with the iconic Avengers: Endgame; the movie that changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe and actually served as the endgame of its Infinity Saga. But the franchise is looking ahead to a new endgame now (in both senses of the word), as its ongoing Multiverse Saga will conclude with Avengers: Secret Wars.
It's the big one that promises to be even bigger than its predecessors, as the Avengers are expected to be joined by heroes (and maybe even some villains) from across the multiverse in a bid to stop the dreaded Doctor Doom, who will take over as the franchise's new Big Bad. And what's even more shocking is that Marvel legend Robert Downey Jr. is expected to return to the franchise but in the new role as the villainous doctor, a variant of his beloved MCU character Tony Stark. a.

Tom Holland appeared on the “Rich Roll Podcast” and remembered how Robert Downey Jr. stepped up on his behalf during his first time filming as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland debuted as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.” His first scene required him to act opposite Downey’s Tony Stark/Iron Man.
“When I had to take my mark and do my scene with Downey, it was really overwhelming,” Holland said. “I am very grateful to Downey. When I did my [screen test], it was eight pages of dialogue. It was a long scene. It went great. I was told by my agent to learn the lines exactly. When I did my first take with Downey, he just started improvising everything and changing it all. That gave me license to follow him. You can’t beat Downey, but you can ride his coattails. And those are good coattails to ride.

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is credited with being one of the most iconic versions of the character, being influential in popularizing superhero cinema, and proving that the genre had the potential to make the kind of money that it is making right now.

Maguire’s Spider-suit remains one of the most iconic superhero suits to come out of Hollywood, but despite the fame and sentiments that are associated with it, it is nowhere close to being as costly as the suit that the latest iteration of the character has been wearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man had a distinct advantage over Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire: the character was playing around in a universe that had other heroes and villains as well.

Could “Saturday Night” make the Best Picture Oscar lineup? What if Denzel Washington takes home No. 3 for “Gladiator II”? Gold Derby editors and experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to answer your burning questions of the week.
“Saturday Night” hardly lit the box office on fire last week after expanding into wide release, but could the Jason Reitman film resonate more with the industry? It’s a nostalgia-fueled crowd-pleaser with a crackling ensemble about an American pop culture institution. Plus, people in the industry know a thing or two about the stress and pressure of putting on a live TV and running up against red tape while trying to execute your vision. But could its inherent American-ness hinder it with international voters?

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man Artwork Reveals Closer Look At Peter Parker's Homemade Costume
New York Comic Con is currently in full swing and a new look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been revealed today. As you can see, it puts the spotlight on the teenager's homemade costume.
He likely won't be wearing that for long, though, as we know the wall-crawler will be outfitted with all manner of eye-catching costumes courtesy of Norman Osborn and Oscorp.
Marvel Studios doesn't have a presence at Nycc beyond some displays on the show floor so we wouldn't anticipate a trailer or premiere date reveal for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man over the next couple of days.
In Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker is on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike what we’ve seen before and a style that celebrates the character’s earliest comic book roots.
Take a closer look at the animated Spider-Man below.

Filmmakers and distributors of awards-hopefuls have until Nov. 4 to submit their category preference — drama versus musical or comedy — to the Golden Globes organization, which reserves the right to overturn any classification that it finds egregiously inaccurate.
Some of this year’s cases are inarguable — for instance, Netflix’s Emilia Pérez, in which characters spontaneously burst into song, is clearly a musical (if not a comedy), and A24’s The Brutalist, in which an immigrant faces all sorts of harrowing hurdles, is clearly a drama. There are, however, also plenty of close-calls, about which many have made assumptions, but, in most cases, not confirmed.
The Hollywood Reporter has been working the phones and can now report which way almost every contender is breaking. This intel is, of course, subject to change prior to Nov. 4, and to being overturned by the Globes thereafter — but it is current as of this writing.

The Oscar for Best Visual Effects is particularly tough to predict because of the complicated system by which the nominees are determined in three stages. The members of the executive committee of the branch cast preferential ballots to determine 20 films for further consideration. These are then winnowed down to 10 semi-finalists, which will be announced on December 17, 2024. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Visual Effects.)
All members of the branch are invited to a virtual screening of excerpts from these 10 films in January at which potential nominees may discuss their work. Ballots are counted using a system of re-weighted range voting to determine the five nominees, which will be revealed on January 17. The entire voting membership of the academy will then vote for the winners, which will be revealed during the 97th Academy Awards ceremony on March 2.

The motion picture academy made it a little easier in 2021 to predict the winners by combining Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into one category: Best Sound. Both sound mixers and sound editors are recognized in the combined category. Up to six statuettes will be awarded to one production sound mixer, two supervising sound editors and three re-recording mixers. The inaugural winner of Best Sound was, appropriately enough “Sound of Metal.” In 2022 this prize went to “Dune” while “Top Gun: Maverick” won in 2023. The reigning champ is “The Zone of Interest.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Sound.)

As is the case with most below-the-line Oscar categories, bigger equals better when it comes to Best Production Design. The more lavish the sets, the more accurate the period detail, the more extravagant the designs, the more likely your film will win an Academy Award. Formerly known as Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, this prize goes to the production designer and set decorator, leaving the poor art directors on the outside looking in; perhaps that accounts for the title change. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Production Design.)
Like Best Costume Design, this award rarely corresponds with Best Picture. Before “The Shape of Water” prevailed in both categories in 2018, the last to line-up was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004. Often, the winner of this race hasn’t even been nominated for the top prize, as was the case with “Memoirs of a Geisha...

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in ‘We Live in Time’ (Photo Credit: Peter Mountain / A24)
As usual, A24 is on a rampage this year. The studio/distributor has released early the Oscar contenders Sing Sing and A Different Man. They’ve given us the horror gems MaXXXine and Love Lies Bleeding. They’ve made us think with Civil War and Planet Janet. They’ve even brought audiences two of the strangest films of the year with Tuesday and I Saw the TV Glow. And now, we’ve got their innovative little love story, We Live in Time.
We Live in Time is about a talented chef named Almut (Florence Pugh from Midsommar) and a smart marketing exec named Tobias. The two meet in a chance encounter, fall in love, and navigate the blue skies and stormy weather of a ten-year relationship.
The story of We Live in Time is typical sappy romance stuff.

Harrison Ford has been acting for well over four decades, gaining fame for his role as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise. The veteran actor will soon make his MCU debut and is currently starring in the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. As a result, it might be hard to imagine Ford doing anything other than acting as a profession.

You likely know the name Lucy Lawless from the six years she spent in fake armor as Xena: Warrior Princess, but she’s actually a woman of many talents. This fall you’ll see a new one when her documentary Never Look Away premieres. It’s the first time Lawless has gone behind the camera to direct a project. Never Look Away tells the story of Margaret Moth, CNN war correspondent. If you’ve seen the movie Civil War then you know what a tough job war journalism is; writers and photographers are often expected to venture deep into dangerous, volatile territory to capture historical events. The film includes testimonials from those who worked with Moth, the raw footage she captured from her adventures, and overall, the unbelievable story of her life. After her first assignment to cover the riots that followed Gandhi’s assassination in India, [Moth] would go on...

The top two streaming titles from the first week of September held their spots in the second week — and both improved on their debut showings.
Netflix’s limited series The Perfect Couple and its movie Rebel Ridge ranked first and second overall on Nielsen’s streaming charts for the week of Sept. 9-15, just as they did over the prior seven days. The Perfect Couple drew 1.97 billion minutes of viewing time (up a bit from 1.91 bilion), and Rebel Ridge grew to 1.28 billion minutes from 1.11 billion for its premiere week.
Also showing significant growth: Hulu’s unscripted show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which improved by 78 percent week to week and broke into the overall top 10 with 729 million minutes of viewing. Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (747 million minutes) fell off some after two weeks over 1 billion minutes. Emily in Paris (708 million) moved back...

The Perfect Couple remained atop the Nielsen streaming charts in its first full week on Netflix, racking up another 1.9B minutes viewed from September 9 to 15.
That’s about even with the prior week, when the adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s mystery novel amassed that type of viewership in its first few days of availability. According to Nielsen, the series picked up a younger audience during this interval, with the 18-34 and 35-49 demos growing 3% each compared to the premiere week.
Rebel Ridge also held onto second place with another 1.2B minutes viewed. Surprisingly, these were the only two billion-minute titles during the second week of September, as Bluey could only muster 870M minutes viewed to claim third place.

Since the academy expanded the Best Picture category at the Oscars in 2010, Best Original Screenplay has gone to writers of a wide-range of genres: dramas; comedies (“Midnight in Paris”); biopics; true-life stories (“Spotlight”); memoirs (“Belfast”); period pictures (“Django Unchained”); war movies (“The Hurt Locker”); sci-fi (“Her”), thrillers horror (“Get Out”) and fantasies (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) . Of this year’s top 10 contenders for Best Original Screenplay, nine were written, at least in part, by the directors. The exception is “Challengers,” which Justin Kuritzkes wrote for director Luca Guadagnino. He also adapted the William S. “Challengers” is, at its heart, a romance. Love, albeit short-lived, is also the subject of the frontrunner in this race, Sean Baker‘s “Anora.

Pan-European indie group Vuelta, which recently bought Telepool in Germany, has completed another strategic acquisition with WW Entertainment, one of Benelux’s largest distributors.

WW Entertainment’s recent hits include “Loverboy: Emoties Uit,” as well as “Hit Man” and “Bombini Bangkok Nights.”
The acquisition of WW Entertainment gives Vuelta a solid footprint in Benelux, a key European market for theatrical distribution, spreading from Belgium to the Netherlands.

While the Best Supporting Actress Oscar is often awarded to an ingenue, like the 2022 winner Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”), it can also be a way to reward a more seasoned performer. In 2024, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Leftovers”) won on her first nomination A year earlier Jamie Lee Curtis had reaped her first Oscar bid at age 64 and prevailed for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” In 2021 Youn Yuh-jung, who is renowned in her native South Korea, won at age 73 for her first English film, “Minari.” And in 2020, the academy honored past nominee Laura Dern who finally took home an Oscar for her scene-stealing performance in “Marriage Story.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Supporting Actress.)
While Dern was clearly a featured player in her picture, two of her rival nominees, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie, could easily have submitted themselves in lead for their roles in “Little Women” and “Bombshell” respectively.

Sebastian Stan first played Bucky Barnes in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and later reprised the role in several MCU projects.
Following memorable turns in the likes of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Stan took centre stage alongside Anthony Mackie in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+. Next up for the actor, though, is Thunderbolts*.
Some fans are convinced Bucky won't make it out of that movie alive. However, Stan is keen to share the screen with Robert Downey Jr. - who is returning as Doctor Doom in place of Iron Man - in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Edward Norton still has the honor of starring in the only solo Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he is also one of the few actors to have their role replaced in the series that spans over 30 movies and 10 canonical shows. Ruffalo began his MCU journey a dozen years ago in the first Avengers blockbuster; where he “incredibly” captured the duality of Banner/Hulk better than any prior performer. Ruffalo managed to pull off the feat in a team-up event, whereas Norton, and a pre-mcu Eric Bana, had an entire feature dedicated to the hero.
Ruffalo immediately connected with audiences more than any of his predecessors, which raised the bar for how compelling this hero could be in live-action, while also rounding out the Avengers ensemble wonderfully. He gave the Marvel Cinematic Universe a big green hand to help lift the franchise to stratospheric heights. Without individual projects to focus on,...

In 2010 the academy expanded the Best Picture field from just five nominees and reintroduced the preferential ballot to decide the winner. Over the ensuing 15 years, we’ve seen six splits between the winners of Best Picture and Best Director (which still has just five nominees). Prior to this such splits were fairly rare. Why the change? (Scroll down for our updated 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Director.)
At the Oscars, the winner of Best Picture is determined by a weighted ballot and the outcomes of the other 22 races, including Best Director, are decided by a popular vote. With two different voting systems, it’s easy to understand why there is often a disconnect between the winners of Best Picture and Best Director.
In 2022, Jane Campion won Best Director for “The Power of the Dog” but “Coda” was named Best Picture. In 2019 Alfonso Cuaron won Best Director for “Roma” only to see...

Fresh from starring in this year’s Civil War, Kirsten Dunst will feature in Derek Cianfrance’s in true crime drama Roofman – the director’s first film in eight years.
Kirsten Dunst has a long and storied filmography, but the actor added an undoubted flourish to it this year, leading the cast of Alex Garland’s Civil War. The A24 movie proved to be one of the most viscerally-unforgettable films of the year, reminding us (if indeed we needed reminding) of the power of Dunst’s enduring onscreen presence.
So what’s next for the actor in the wake of that memorable turn? She’ll reportedly be appearing alongside Keanu Reeves and some other big names in Ruben Östlund’sThe Entertainment System Is Down, although given that the premise of that film sees the action take place on a packed Jumbo jet, it could yet be that she’s part of a much wider ensemble.
