Football For The Heart & Soul
zkonedog11 March 2017
Though the National Football League is "king of the hill" right now in terms of organized sports, this documentary takes a look at football on the high school level, with input from coaches and players from all aspects of the sports' history.

The great thing about this DVD, based on the Kenny Chesney song of the same name, is that everybody can relate to its message, which is the spectacle of the action under the Friday night lights. From the fans to the coaches, and the players to the pep band, nearly everyone was has lived can remember those innocent high school nights and not help but be caught up in a wave of nostalgia.

What really hooks you, though, is the input from high-profile guests like John Madden (good to hear that voice again!), Brett Favre, Troy Aikman, and a long list of famous coaches from the college ranks, to name but a few. In this relaxed, chit-chat type setting, all the pressures of winning and losing are cast aside, and the simple joy and life experience of playing the game are touched on. When all the X's and O's and the business aspects of the game are stripped away, it quickly becomes clear the power that team sports can have in not only shaping teams, but also individuals in other aspects of life away from the football field.

Basically, this is just a great little documentary to watch if you are sick of the pomp and circumstance of the NFL and just want to get back to football's roots: a group of guys coming together as individuals to form a team and try to win instead of lose together. It really isn't any more complicated than that, despite all our attempts to make it so. Thus, this is the perfect gift for the pigskin-head in your family. It may not remain in the entertainment center for good, but it will make an impression on the first viewing, that is for sure.

Brings tears to a grown man's eyes
floyd-528 December 2011
This movie having just 10 votes and no comments a year after its release is what is wrong with America.

The best coaching minds together in one place -- what more could you want?

The true shepherds of human potential. Jon Gruden, John Madden, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning talking about what made high school football great -- goose bump material.

Yet apparently few gave this movie a shot.

Few see the importance of coaches.

Few understand that leadership, work ethic, grit, determination, motivation, honesty, and true teamwork don't happen by chance. They aren't something you are born with. They can't be bought at Abercrombie & Fitch.

See this movie. Let it change your life. Then go thank a coach.

Excellent football documentary from a fan's perspective
jasonhavens1 January 2019
I agree with the other two reviews: This college football documentary produced by Kenny Chesney and Shaun Silva is excellent. Kenny Chesney clearly is a football (and general sports) fan. The interviews with well-known coaches and hall of fame NFL players provide an "all-access" view that any football fan will enjoy. I would highly recommend the "Boys of Fall," which you may still purchase via Kenny Chesney's official website/store (only Blu-Ray and a bargain compared to some of the used copies being sold -- just ordered an extra to send as a gift).

Seriously Inspirational
thekbar22 November 2022
I've been looking for this movie for years, and just recently managed to come across a copy of it on DVD. The only thing hurting this movie is the lack of availability on streaming. It really tells it like it is(was), and brought a lot of smiles, and a few tears to a 58 year old who played his last football game just over 40 years ago.

It's also great to see some of the greatest names in football be included. Thirty or forty years from now, the future generations are going to be looking back at them as some of the greatest to ever play, or coach the game. It's good seeing them in such a personal setting and in what is one of the best football documentaries ever filmed. Hats off to Kenny Chesney and everyone who made this film possible.
