More questions than answers
Tweekums14 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
As the first series of Outcasts comes to a conclusion the viewer is left with more questions than answers; we still don't know the nature of the intelligence present on Carpathia nor do we learn much more about the ship that Julius Berger has been communicating with. Instead this episode deals with an outbreak of a new strain of the illness that killed many of the children several years before. Stella is certain that it has something to do with DNA and believes that by broadcasting the right DNA sequence it can be stopped; Berger meanwhile is trying to convince Jack to go out and exterminate the ACs claiming that they are to blame. That isn't the only thing Berger is up to; he learns that Fleur is also an AC, something that even she didn't know. Cass does everything he can to help Fleur and Tate makes a rather surprising announcement at the council meeting Berger has called.

This episode was not bad but it felt far more like the penultimate episode than a series finale; while Berger may have had his plans temporarily thwarted the ship with his unknown associates aboard is still coming the Carpathia and the native intelligence still poses a threat to the people of Forthaven. Given the lack of a proper conclusion I hope a second series gets commissioned as despite its flaws I rather enjoyed this. As in previous episodes the acting was fairly solid and for the most part the characters are interesting although Berger is now so obviously evil he couldn't be any worse if he grew horns!

So this is the finale. It isn't too bad although I can't say that I am very impressed.

Of course since they didn't seem to expect that the show will be canceled it isn't an end that answers you all your questions. But in my opinion a good season finale should give one many answers while also give more questions and keep the interest for the upcoming season. In this case we didn't really learn anything new.

I find the story about Fleur being an AC to be pretty interesting and well done.

At the same time the very ending wasn't very exceptional and making one wish to see more.
