A Broadway star has his eye on Joan Watson!
EW has learned exclusively that Steve Kazee, one of two leads in the original cast of the Tony Award-winning Once musical, is set to guest star on CBS’ Elementary, playing a man who Joan (Lucy Liu) meets while making her first foray into online dating. The hitch in this plan for love? According to scoop, Sherlock’s (Jonny Lee Miller) views on relationships — particularly internet-matchmaking — may mar the courtship before it even has the chance to get off the ground.

Chicago – Bring up the name Ed Asner, and immediately his legendary TV character Lou Grant comes to mind. Asner created the only TV character to successfully transition from a sitcom – “Mary Tyler Moore” – to the cutting-edge TV drama “Lou Grant.” But Asner has also been steadily working since those days, including his latest film “Let Go.”
“Let Go” is a crazy quilt ensemble comedy, following the exploits of a parole officer (David Denman). One of his clients include Artie, portrayed by Ed Asner. The iconic TV and film actor gives a subtle late career performance as a small time robber who can’t understand why things change. There is a beautiful scene with Asner and actress Peggy McKay at the conclusion of the film, as Artie makes one last attempt at redemption. Ed Asner is no lion in winter, he is still roaring.

The overall deal is the latest for ITV Studios’ U.S.-based indie production arm ITV Studios America and brings into the fold Bob Kusbit‘s One Louder, which is behind Made and the upcoming Totally Clueless on MTV as well as current projects at A&E, truTV and elsewhere. Kusbit returned to his 10-year-old production company full time in January 2011 after a stint at Cmt, where as head of development he oversaw series like Gone Country and My Big Redneck Wedding and the network first sitcom, Working Class. That partnership stemmed from a development deal he had with MTV Networks, where he produced series, specials and events. Before that, he was Svp Production at MTV, where he launched its Times Square Studio in 1997 and created Total Request Live with Carson Daly. Today’s deal was announced by Paul Buccieri, Managing Director of ITV Studios International and president and CEO of ITV Studios America.

Q- You are the current Director of WGA's Showrunner Training Program at Writers Guild of America West. How many applicants did you have for this year?
A- We had over eighty applicants for about twenty five slots. The application process is a two step process. First applicants have to be recommended by current show runners or creative executives. Once they've been recommended, they fill out an application. I review the applications and we end up interviewing about fifty candidates. Out of those fifty candidates we invite approximately twenty five people to participate in the Program. This year's first session was on Saturday, January 14th and it (the program) ran for six consecutive Saturdays.
Q- How long has the Showrunner Training Program been in existence, and can you give the readers a background of its origins?

In the final moments of last week's "Pretty Little Liars" episode, we saw a mysterious guy mistake Aria (Lucy Hale) for Vivian Darkbloom, Alison's secret identity. "Pll" fans, meet Duncan Albert -- Aka Australian actor Lachlan Buchanan, best known from Cmt's "Working Class."
An old friend (with potential benefits) of Ali's, Duncan has no idea that Alison -- or Vivian, as he knows her -- is dead. When he finally puts the pieces together, he realizes that he was one of the last people to see Alison alive before her disappearance.
"He's someone with a link to Alison who they weren't aware of," Lachlan told us when we visited him on set during filming in November. "The red coat is a major clue. Honestly, they're keeping everything under wraps. I was talking to Marlene [King], the writer, and she was just saying that they want everything to stay a mystery to the actors.

Reba McEntire is making a comeback.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has ordered "Malibu Country," a sitcom pilot written by and starring the country music legend. The show, if picked up, would follow McEntire as a woman who moves her children away from her cheating husband in Nashville and seeks to revive her singing career in the very different climes of Malibu.
"Malibu Country" would also mark McEntire's first full-time foray into TV since her show "Reba" ended in 2007. That show ran for six seasons on The WB and The CW networks. McEntire has since made appearances in the short-lived series "Better With You" and "Working Class."
ABC has also ordered "Prairie Dogs," a single camera sitcom from Jackie and Jeff Filgo, who previously wrote for "That 70's Show" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine." The story centers on a lowly cubicle worker who has his identity stolen,...

Hosted by Joey Fatone, The Singing Bee ran for one season on NBC (from July until December 2007) before being cancelled. It was later revived by Cmt with Melissa Peterman (Working Class) as host. The new version started airing in June 2009 and became a big success.
It's actually now one of the cable channel's highest-rated series. To no surprise, The Singing Bee has been renewed for a fifth season (season four on Cmt). There's no word on how many episodes have been ordered this time around or when they'll start airing. The number in past seasons have varied on Cmt, ranging from nine to 20 episodes per cycle.
Versions of The Singing Bee have been produced in 30 countries. The Gurin Company is shopping the format to additional buyers at Natpe this week.

The tragedy is that John Lennon graced the earth for but forty years. But a perfect storm of brilliance, social consciousness, personal pain and populist embers whipped around Lennon, leading the confused lad from Northern England to fit more life into those years than perhaps anyone else in the 20th century. For that, on what would have been his 71st birthday, we celebrate.

Lachlan Buchanan plays an average American teenager on Cmt's "Working Class," but viewers may be shocked to hear that he's Australian.
While he's a newcomer to Hollywood, his roles back home include acting in several soap operas and the highly praised role as the self-destructive surfer kid in the Aussie coming-of-age film, "Newcastle."
"You couldn't get more opposite than my upbringing being an Australian kid," he tells Zap2it. "I mean in Australia, we grow up watching American TV and film and I've always been fascinated with American teenagers, their upbringing and American high schools. It's kind of fun to be able to play it and experience that in some form. But, it's definitely different."
As the mischievous Scott on "Working Class," Buchanan represents the typical American teen, but he says that he's still constantly learning the fine details of playing the role.

On Cmt's "Working Class," single mom Carli (played by Melissa Peterman) has moved her family to an upscale suburb. And Steve Kazee plays Nick, Carli's musician brother. Funny, handsome, and immature, Nick can be a comfort for Carli some of the time, but he can also be just as much of a handful as her kids.
The Kentucky native has played Sir Lancelot in the Broadway production of "Spamalot." And before landing the regular role on "Working Class," Kazee, 35, has appeared on "CSI," "NCIS," "Medium," and "As the World Turns."
In Friday's (Feb. 18) episode, Carli tries to teach her kids not to be judgmental when "The Drew Carey Show's" Kathy Kinney guest stars as the kids' lunch lady. But Carli's plan may backfire when the lunch lady wants to put Nick on the night's menu.

Cmt’s first scripted series broke ratings records for the network Friday night, as Ed Asner’s Working Class delivered 1.2 million viewers. That’s the biggest debut for any original series in Cmt’s history, though its young adult numbers were modest by comparison (0.5 rating).
The night was topped by Discovery Channel’s hit Gold Rush: Alaska, which had 3.4 million viewers (1.3 in demo). Over on Starz, the second episode of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena held last week’s record premiere high of 1.1 million viewers (0.5).

Cmt's new sitcom, the Melissa Peterman/Ed Asner starrer Working Class, drew 1.2 million viewers and a .50 rating in adults 18-49 in its Friday premiere to rank as the highest rated and most watched series debut in the network's history. Of course, Working Class is Cmt's first scripted series, so that means it outperformed all of the network's reality series debuts. Working Class didn't come close to the blockbuster summer premiere of TV Land's first original sitcom, Hot In Cleveland (4.8 million), but is nevertheless off to a solid start, especially given its 8 Pm timeslot and the lack of sitcom tradition on Cmt. Meanwhile, the second season finale of Style Network's reality series Jerseylicious averaged 925,000 viewers, a series high and the most watched telecast in the network's history.

8/7c Cmt
Cmt rolls out its first scripted series: this good-natured sitcom starring Reba alum Melissa Peterman as a single mom who moves her three kids (and her slacker younger brother) into a wealthy suburb to give the kids a better life, and takes a job in a supermarket. That won't make her wealthy herself, of course, and there are plenty of poverty jokes (this is a comedy) in the back-to-back opening episodes. Peterman enhances them with her physical-comedy talents. Ed Asner plays her curmudgeonly neighbor and coworker. — Paul Droesch
Read on for previews of SpongeBob SquarePants, Track and Field, Your Own Show: Oprah's Search for the Next TV Star, Four Biggest Wedding Blunders and Real Time with Bill Maher.

Read our exclusive interview with Patrick Fabian, who stars as grocery store boss Rob Parker in Cmt’s first original sitcom ‘Working Class,’ which debuts at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2011. The series follows the attraction between Rob and one of his workers, Carli Mitchell (who is portrayed by Melissa Peterman of ‘Reba’ fame), a twice-divorced single mother of three who is struggling to make ends meet in her upper-middle-class neighborhood. Fabian discusses with us, among things, why the series is different from other series he has appeared on, and what it’s like working with Peterman and their other co-star, television icon Ed Asner. Both were the comedy highlights of a pair of morning panels Wednesday at the TV Critics Association Winter Press Tour at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena.

The cast of Cmt's first scripted show, "Working Class," appeared at the Television Critics Association's Winter Press Tour and it was hard to focus on just one of them.
Of course, we had "Mary Tyler Moore" star and seven-time Emmy winner Ed Asner, who knew how to work the room. Then, we had cute-as-a-button Melissa Peterman, who you'll remember from "Reba." We can go on about the handsome Patrick Fabian ("Gigantic") and Steve Kazee, but we have to acknowledge who really got our attention.
Executive producer, Jill Cargerman, created the sitcom based on her own experiences. "My mother moved us to [Chicago's] northern suburbs," she says. "Very much as Carli does in the show, to give us the advantages of the schools and the community and the community support that we hadn't -- that she hadn't had growing up."
Cargerman admits that she resented her mother for the move at the...

Chicago – His face is inviting, but his intentions are ambiguous and perhaps somewhat devious. That’s precisely the type of character that Patrick Fabian has mastered. He’s lent disarming charisma to a variety of characters, from the self-righteously scheming man of faith in “Big Love” to the flamboyantly sleazy car company executive in “Pushing Daisies.”
Though he’s been delivering memorable work in film and television since 1992, Daniel Stamm’s documentary-style horror flick “The Last Exorcism” marks Fabian’s first major film role. As Cotton Marcus, a redemption-seeking minister taping his own faux-exorcisms, Fabian goes toe-to-toe with Ashley Bell, who’s eerily convincing as the seemingly possessed farm girl, Nell Sweetzer. In light of the film’s Jan. 4 release on Blu-Ray and DVD, Fabian spoke with Hollywood Chicago about the spooky side of religion, experimenting on camera and his opinion about the film’s much-debated ending.

Melissa Peterman describes her new Cmt show, Working Class, as a ”fish-out-of water family sitcom.” Peterman (formerly of Reba) plays a single mom — “two ex-husbands, three kids” — who takes a job at a frou-frou grocery store, where she works alongside her neighbor Hank, played by TV legend Ed Asner. “I have moments where I’m trying to do a scene with him and I freeze — he has seven Emmys!” laughs Peterman. “I’m a Minneapolis girl originally, and Mary Tyler Moore is huge for me. He’s Lou Grant! And he won an Emmy for playing Lou Grant funny, and serious [in the Mary Tyler Moore spin-off drama Lou Grant]. It’s crazy.

As horror archetypes go, the “demonic possession” subgenre is one that didn’t really hit its stride until the 1973 release of the William Friedkin production of William Peter Blatty’s bestselling novel The Exorcist. Before that there were sporadic cinematic mentions of demons taking over the bodies of the living, but it was The Exorcist and the cultural phenomena it created that set the tone from then on.
After reports of people literally throwing up in theaters, passing out in their seats, and – most importantly – record box office numbers being tallied, the list of films that wanted a piece of the demonic action came fast and furious with titles such as Ovidio G. Assonitis and Robert Barrett’s Beyond The Door, aka The Devil Within Her (1974); the great Mario Bava’s La Casa Dell’Esorcismo, aka House of Exorcism, aka Lisa and the Devil (1974); and on through the years until...

Melissa Peterman is happy about her new sitcom, if only because it lets her role-reverse with Reba McEntire.
As Barbra Jean on the long-running WB and CW sitcom "Reba," Peterman played the wife of McEntire's ex-husband. It'll be the other way around on "Working Class," a Country Music Television show that premieres Friday, Jan. 28. In the last of the first season's 12 episodes, country icon McEntire guest stars as the current spouse of single-mom Peterman's ex.
"The minute the show was picked up, I was like, 'That has got to happen!'" Peterman tells Zap2it. "The writers were immediately writing it, and I get to say things like, 'What kind of woman would barge into her man's ex-wife's house like she owns it?'
"That's essentially what I did for six years on 'Reba,' and it was so much fun to have her in that role. I have...

Ashley Bell has been a working actor since her teen years, appearing in plays in Los Angeles and in guest spots on TV shows, most notably the Showtime series "United States of Tara." Last year Bell signed on to play a girl seemingly possessed, in the low-budget horror film "The Last Exorcism." The weekend it opened, Bell flew into Los Angeles International Airport and was promptly swamped by paparazzi. "I didn't understand why there were all these photographers," Bell recalls with a laugh. "I actually asked somebody who they were there for, before I realized they were taking pictures of me."Horror has always been a tough genre for actors. Though the films traditionally do well at the box office, the actors' performances are not often singled out for praise. In the past, particularly in the 1970s, some actors saw their careers launched by scary movies: Think Amy Irving in "Carrie" and "The Fury,...

Veteran actor Ed Asner is breathing new life into his TV career - the 80 year old is set to co-star in a new U.S. sitcom about a single mum.
Asner has signed on to play the misanthropic neighbour to a blue-collar working mum played by Melissa Peterman in new Cmt network show Working Class.
Asner, who turns 81 next month, is best-remembered for his signature role as journalist Lou Grant on hit 1970s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It's his first role as a series regular since 2006 comedy Studio 60.
His return to TV follows recent late-career successes for two former Mary Tyler Moore co-stars - Betty White is experiencing another wave of success with her own U.S. series, Hot in Cleveland, while Cloris Leachman features in TV comedy Raising Hope.
Asner's 12-episode comedy is scheduled to premiere in January.

Can Ed Asner do for CMT what Betty White did for TV Land?
A seven-time Emmy winner, Asner is returning to primetime television in Cmt's first scripted sitcom, "Working Class."
The "Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Lou Grant" star is joining previously announced lead Melissa Peterman in the series about a blue-collar single mom who moves her family to a well-to-do suburb. Asner plays her misanthropic neighbor. The move is not entirely unlike TV Land striking ratings gold with its first comedy, "Hot in Cleveland," casting fellow small-screen legend White in a supporting role.
The move is Asner's first regular series commitment since NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" in 2006. He also was recently cast as Warren Buffett in HBO's telefilm "To Big to Fail." The Green & Associates-repped actor was previously announced as having been cast in another Cmt comedy pilot, "Regular Joe."
