The aircraft bearing The Aviators' logo in several scenes throughout season one is a 1972 Cessna U206F owned at the time by Executive Producer Anthony Nalli. Just after the premiere in 2010 the aircraft was sold and Nalli acquired another aircraft, a 1978 Cessna P210N which will be seen in subsequent seasons of the show.
In preparation for the shoot of the grass airstrip at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, SC, the producers were concerned that without any aircraft it would just look like a plain field, and asked if it would be possible to have some aircraft on hand to fly. Organizers put out a call on their Facebook page and on the day of the shoot over 100 aircraft showed up including a C47 and an F4U Corsair, both of which were profiled in the segment.
The first public screenings of the show took place on July 30th and 31st at EAA AirVenture's Theatre in the Woods before a combined crowd of 5,000. Within the next 36 hours, the show's website received over 1 million hits.
In the first six months after its premiere the show aired almost 8,000 times across North America - an average of over 40 times a day.
All of the hosts of The Aviators (2010) are actually pilots. Anthony Nalli is an instrument rated private pilot. Sara Rependa is commercial, multi-engine pilot.
