- Dexter and Harrison at a "Mommy & Me" class. and when Dexter looks away, a child near Harrison ends up with a scratch on his face. He's worried this could be a sign Harrison was affected by witnessing Rita's murder.
Dexter meets with Lumen. He again tries to convince her she needs to return to her family, even giving her a plane ticket to Minnesota. She is still obsessed with finding the other men who helped Boyd assault her and hold her in sexual bondage. She asks him to kill the other guys but Dexter doesn't think that would help either of them.
After Quinn and Debra fool around, she wants to quickly head out the door. He lies to her about why he's not at work, saying Maria made him take vacation days.
Debra and Angel go to the hospital and question the kid who was cut with the machete. All he knows about the guy is that he had a tattoo on his hand. He draws it for them.
Dexter goes to the database and finds no mention of an accomplice for Boyd. Debra isn't interested in telling Dexter about the Quinn relationship.
Angel is getting nervous about Maria spending so much time with the IA guy McCourt.
Since neither Dexter nor Debra can make anything of the tattoo drawing the witness provided, they ask Masuka who has some pretty major ink on his bank. He tells them his artist, Michael Angelo, would be a good expert in the field.
Dexter goes to Boyd's place. He finds someone else has been there, leaving blood and prints behind while going through Boyd's files. He assumes this was an accomplice trying to cover his tracks.
Dexter asks Sonya if she's ever seen Harrison be aggressive. She has found just the opposite to be true. When Sonya leaves Dexter matches the finger print from Boyd's house with Lumen, who is clearly doing recon on her own.
Dexter breaks into Lumen's hotel rooms and finds an extensive collection of articles and research into her attackers, some of which looks a little obsessive. Harry shows up to question how rational Lumen is acting. He finds a letter she took from Boyd's place. It was written by his ex-cellmate Robert Brunner, who was looking for help when he got out. Harry thinks this is her target and her actions will bring Dexter down.
Dexter meets with Lumen again and confronts her about investigating Boyd's accomplice. She says she's thinking about killing whoever is involved and Dexter realizes she won't stop until she gets to Brunner.
Angel talks to Maria about his IA case. She says nothing but is acting unusual. Outside he sees her get into the car with the McCourt.
Frances brings Brunner's file to Dexter. Brunner did seven years for sexual assault, and the record of his crime looks like what happened to Lumen. It's likely that he's living under a bridge where outcast ex-cons take up residency.
Masuka takes Debra to see Michael Angelo, who happens to be a woman. Angelo isn't able to provide much help about the drawing of the tattoo. Debra calls Manzon, who has found a number of potential victims using ATM surveillance videos.
Dexter finds Brunner who tells a story similar to what happened to Lumen and Dexter gives him the hypodermic to the neck. Dexter takes him to a kill room but just before he does anything significant to the man, he finds an surveillance bracelet on his ankle. This means Brunner could have not have done anything to Lumen and he is furious at himself for almost killing the man.
Dexter comes home early and finds Debra and Quinn hanging out. She shuffles her lover out the door and ends up admitting to the physical part of the relationship. Dexter curtly tells her to keep Quinn away from Harrison.
When Maria comes home late and immediately gets in the shower, Angel is highly suspicious. While she's in the bathroom, he looks at her phone and finds several calls to McCourt and an appointment with him the following day at a motel.
At Lumen's motel, Dexter learns she was headed for Brunner's location. He finds her there and at the last minute is able to keep her from shooting Brunner. She gets emotional, telling Dexter she simply wants everything to go away. He tells her the only way is to go home and she agrees.
After several dead-ends, Debra and Manzon find a house with two decomposing murdered bodies inside.
Angel sees Maria through a window of the motel room. She appears to be adjusting her blouse and he bursts through the door. It turns out that Maria was wearing a wire and doing undercover work for McCourt and Angel very nearly ruined the sting. She is pissed at him for not trusting her.
Masuka and Dexter determine the bodies have been dead for a month and were killed by a machete. With no artefacts near the bodies and no beheading, these were perhaps the Fuentes brothers' first two victims. Across the street, Debra spots a night club poster with the tattoo image from the witness. It wasn't a tattoo after all, just an entry stamp from a night club where the Fuentes brothers hang out.
Dexter drops Lumen off at the airport. Before leaving, he tells her his real name. She says she doesn't think she can tell anyone what happened to her and thanks him. Lumen has a really, really tough time with a hand search at security. She has a panic attack and very nearly faints.
Debra tells Quinn about the Mayan nightclub lead. When they hang up, we see Quinn is with the cop (Peter Weller) just busted in the undercover sting by McCourt and Maria. He is pissed at the department and agrees to investigate Dexter for Quinn.
At another "Mommy & Me" class, Dexter overhears a couple of mothers talking negatively about Harrison's somewhat violent behavior. Dexter bluntly tells them, "There's nothing wrong with my son." As Dexter is putting Harrison in his car seat, Harrison giggles and joyfully scratches Dexter on the cheek.
We see Lumen get into a cab outside the Miami airport. She has changed her mind about leaving town.
