Blessing Of The Campanella

As this series is fairly short, just twelve episodes, and available on Funimation's YouTube channel I decided to give it a go despite knowing nothing about it. Having finished it I'm not really sure what to make of it; on the one hand the characters and plot are all very child friendly but there is a lot more flesh on show than one would expect from a children's series. However it isn't too excessive; just short skirts and cleavage for the most part although there are a few bare backsides on show. Where there is nudity the situations are clearly meant to be awkward for the characters rather than sexual. The story itself was fairly basic; it is set in a world where a strange energy called El can be used as a power source but also causes ordinary creatures to become monsters. In this world Lord Leicester and the predominantly female Oasis Clan go on various quests on which they are sometimes joined by two sisters and their giant robot 'Golem'.

I quite liked the cute look of the series although with only twelve episodes the story was over just as it looked as if it might get more interesting. The main characters weren't the most interesting characters; I preferred the two sisters, Salsa and Ritos, who were mainly there for comic relief. The fighting scenes aren't particularly violent and one is never in any real doubt that the heroes won't be harmed making that aspect of the story suitable for all ages. While this series didn't really appeal to me I'd advise anybody unsure about whether or not to watch it to check out the opening episodes as they can be watched legally at the time I write this.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
