It's 2 a.m. on a Friday night and the NCIS team is at work. Tony tries to get information out of Ziva about her mystery Miami man. She's using comp time to take three days off soon. Comp time is news to Tony.
Gibbs announces it's body of the week time.
On the dinner cruise, the next morning, Gibbs says hello to Borin, who he worked with before. He brought her a change of clothes.
Nolan was having dinner with his sister and uncle. The passengers have been kept on the boat.
Ziva talks to Nolan's family. His uncle Wayne Grossman says Nolan got back from Afghanistan four days ago. His sister Kimberly gets a text that the paparazzi are waiting. McGee recognizes her.
They're the children of Jack Nolan, the family is worth millions.
Bolin comes back with coffee. She and McGee report on Nolan, who was cut out of the family fortune after he refused to take over the family business. Jack Nolan died six months ago. Kimberly was made famous by a leaked sex tape.
Nolan was a stellar Marine.
Ziva finishes up interviewing Borin's date. He thinks he and Borin were hitting it off.
No one has seen the gun or tested positive for GSR. People saw a man in a marine uniform argue with a waiter.
In the morgue, Duckie tracks the bullets' path through the victim. They were fired from a low angle from at least 20 feet away. Duckie says it would have taken a marksman.
Tony interviews surly Doug, the waiter Nolan argued with. He's an ex-Marine, who was discharged for hitting a superior officer. Tony needles him.
He says he told Nolan his joining up was a stunt. He was on the opposite side of the boat when the shots were fired.
In the lab, Abby shows Gibbs and Borin her 3D model of the shooting, which shows the shooter couldn't have been on the boat -- but instead was on another boat nearby.
Upstairs, Borin is wracking her brain trying to remember a second boat, but she can't. They wonder how the shooter would have known Nolan would be on the deck at that time.
McGee finds an arrest from three days ago against Nolan for assault. His uncle Wayne, legal counsel for the family business, defended him.
Tony and Ziva go to the business and meet with a Tom Adams, the CFO, a young guy who's been with the company since his teens. He speaks well of Jeremy and says that he stood up to Devon Lodge, a punk who used to date Kimberly and smacked her around.
When Jeremy got back, he found Devon and hit him. The charges were dropped.
Back in Abby's lab, she and Borin are going through the pictures from the cruise. There's one that shows the mystery boat out the window, a sports fishing boat. Borin recognized the model and is already looking into registrations.
Tony and Ziva go look for Devon at a club and find him mauling Kimberly. He admits he hated Jeremy, but says the paparazzi were following him at the time of the murder. At the office, McGee has 390 boat registrations.
Abby comes up to say the blood from the crime scene was from two people.
Borin gets a call that the Coast Guard just pulled another body out of the river.
Borin visits Duckie in the morgue with the second victim. He was killed around the time Nolan was, with a .22 to the back of his head. He was wrapped in plastic and weighed down.
He had .9 mm shells in his pocket, the kind used to kill Nolan. They think he was hired to kill Nolan, and then was killed.
He's Kyle Dansby and he has a record, including as the suspect in two murders for hire. McGee's about to trace where he was dumped according to river currents, but Borin steps in. She says it was at National Harbor.
McGee looks for the sports boat registered there and finds one that belongs to Devon's family's company.
Ziva and Tony go back to the club and find a blonde straddling a sauced Devon. He swings at Tony and when his security steps in, Tony and Ziva dispatch with them handily.
Back at NCIS, Tony and Ziva say they couldn't corroborate his alibi and he's unaccounted for four hours the night of the murder.
Mcgee interrupts. He shows them a paparazzi video of Devon with a senator's 17-year-old daughter going into a hotel and coming out four hours earlier. He has an alibi, but Ziva arrests him for having sex with a minor.
McGee finds paperwork that shows Jack Nolan changed his will and Jeremy got the whole company. Jeremy was about to turn it into a non-profit.
In in the lab, Abby is on a caf-pow tear. She tells Gibbs that Wayne Grossman once defended the hitman Dansby.
She found Adam's prints on the boat. And Kimberly is out her $300K board member job. They have circumstantial evidence only and need a confession.
Gibbs says they're going to break rule No. 1: Never put suspects together. He asks Borin for the key to a sports boat.
At Nolan Radar Systems, Gibbs tosses the boat key on the table for Wayne, Kimberly and Adams to see. They tell Adams his blood is on it. Wayne shuts Adams up and looks at the key.
Gibbs pours Kimberly a glass of water and tells her to pick it up. She doesn't move her arm. Gibbs pokes her. They pull back her jacket to show a bandage.
The bullet grazed her.
She says they threatened her into getting Jeremy out on the deck. They all turn on each other, with Wayne pointing out Adams took out Dansby.
Wayne takes out his phone and plays a recording of Adams and Kimberly conspiring. They're all under arrest.
Back at the office, Gibbs and Borin are perky as the team drags. She gets called to another murder and says good bye.
A captain waits to see someone. He's there about Nolan. He has Jeremy's revised will -- he's a lawyer in the reserves and served with Jeremy. Kimberly was out of the will and Jeremy went forward with turning all the company's profits over to charity.
Tony counts up his comp time and sees he has three weeks -- which he won't be taking so he doesn't get replaced.
Gibbs sends them all home.
