The Guardians Of The Galaxy — or, at least, James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy — are about to make their last stand with this week's long-awaited Vol. 3, and in this week's episode of the Empire Podcast, Chris Hewitt Zooms with Nebula herself, Karen Gillan, for a fun chat taking in everything from conspiracy theories to James Gunn's initial firing from the project, and everything in-between. Chris also has a chat with another regular pod-guest, Joe Russo, who tells Chris about the second year of the St. Andrews International Film Festival, why he never keeps track of his score at golf, and more. That 'more' includes an in-depth chat about the state of the filmmaking union and the rise of A.I. and its impact upon movies, and while this was recorded a couple of weeks ago, it feels very timely now given this week's decision, by the WGA, to call a strike,...

Director William Nunez describes why he focused on a time when the poet Robert Graves – best known for a memoir Goodbye to All That and historical novel I, Claudius – left his wife and family in pursuit of creativity at any cost
How do you make the life of a poet work on screen? It helps if they had scandalous personal lives. Robert Graves was last seen on the sidelines of Terence Davies’s biopic as the friend of the first world war poet Siegfried Sassoon (Benediction). Now the tables are turned, with a cameo of Sassoon in a film about the early career of the man who would go on to become professor of poetry at Oxford and to win the Queen’s gold medal for poetry.
Graves is an unfashionable figure today, known chiefly through I, Claudius, the TV serialisation of two of his novels, starring Derek Jacobi as the Roman emperor.

One of the best things about As They Made Us, written and directed by Mayim Bialik, is its pronounced lack of judgment. An indie dramedy heavy on the drama, Bialik’s story of a fractured family preparing for its patriarch’s death fully understands that every person has their reasons. Which doesn’t make all of their actions okay or the aftermath any more bearable. It’s the truth, no more and no less.

The most powerful and compelling films are often grounded in relatability and emotionally engage their viewers in the characters’ journeys, no matter what era or circumstances they’re set in. That’s certainly true for the new historical biopic, ‘The Laureate,’ which depicts the life of British war poet and novelist Robert Graves almost a century ago, […]

Dramatizing the lives of beloved writers is always problematic, because the act of writing itself is so inherently un-dramatic. Nonetheless, writer-director William Nunez’s “The Laureate” manages to eke . Well-acted, nicely crafted and a handsome period piece within modest means, this isn’t the most novel, memorable or intellectually deep enterprise of its type. But it will satisfy viewers looking for a slightly racier variation on “Downton Abbey” terrain. Gravitas Ventures is opening it on a couple dozen U.S. screens Jan. 21.

"If you invite a serpent into your home, perhaps you shouldn't be surprised if it bites you." Oooh! Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie drama called The Laureate, from filmmaker William Nunez. This recently premiered at the Mallorca Film Festival this fall, and opens soon in the US starting in January. Set in the 20s, a married couple on the brink of disillusion allows a stranger to live with them in their idyllic cottage. Will this stranger push their fragile state over the edge? Seems like such a loaded question because of course something will happen and of course inviting someone new into your home will always cause some kind of chaos. The film stars Laura Haddock, Dianna Agron, Tom Hughes, Julian Glover, Derek Jacobi, Patricia Hodge, and Christien Anholt. It looks extra intense and also incredibly passionate, a story about how to reignite passion when the trauma of war extinguishes it.

Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom are moving out of "Elizabethtown" and into different "Cities."
The starring duo of Cameron Crowe's 2005 romantic drama are joining Clive Owen for an international thriller covering a hot button topic: world finance, according to The Playlist.
"Cities" is a cautionary tale about greed and ambition that blends three interlinking storylines: in New York, a hedge fund manager (Owen) pursues money, sex and power; in London, a young couple struggles to buy a house; and in Mumbai, a cop investigates his corrupt colleagues who have ties to property speculators.
Dunst will be playing the role of Kate, who appears in Owen's storyline, and we're assuming Bloom will be playing one half of the London couple... so it's unlikely they'll actually be sharing any screen time together. Maybe they'll at least talk on the phone like they did for, like, an hour in "Elizabethtown?"

I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando. Funny thing is, I look older-and he doesn’t! I guess that’s why he makes such a wonderful elf.
Now, Jackson has confirmed that Orlando Bloom (The Laureate) will return to Middle Earth as Legolas Greenleaf, son of the Elvenking of Mirkwood.

Back in November, was announced that British up and coming actresses Felicity Jones and Imogen Poots had signed on for Iain Softley’s indie project Trap For Cinderella.
Since then, both Jones and Poots launched big buzz around them – Jones gained critical acclaim for her role in Sundance hit Like Crazy, and previews for this summer’s Fright Night are recommending an exceptional performance from Poots. Jones has been working on David Hare‘s Page Eight, and the comedy Cheerful Weather for the Wedding in the last few months, and was a candidate for the lead role in Snow White and the Huntsman which was finally taken by Kristen Stewart.
Poots seems is ruled out because of scheduling conflicts since she lined up for roles in A Late Quartet, The Laureate and Hello Darkness. And it doesn’t seem to have paid of for Softley, as Jones and Poots are exited,...

Orlando Bloom, Imogen Poots and Kerry Condon have all joined the cast of the upcoming William Nunez’s feature film debut titled The Laureate.
When we have this kind of project, and we already know that it’s about poet Robert Graves, then it’s quite logical Bloom will have an honor to portray the iconic British poet, right?
As we said, the film is written and directed by William Nunez, and follows the life of Robert Graves, his wife Nancy Nicholson and poet Laura Riding (Imogen Poots).
Apparently the writer had an open relationship with the two women, and they all lived together for quite some time, until Graves began to like Riding better.
Kerry Condon will play Nancy Nicholson, while Imogen Poots will play Laura Riding.
Director Nunez says that:
“At its core, ‘The Laureate’ will be a study of intense relationships: what created them, what can undo them,...

Were you aware that iconic British poet Robert Graves lived in an open love triangle for many, many years? Are you pretending to know who Robert Graves is right now? Me too. Graves was a formidable poet and historian of ancient world leaders like Roman Emperor Claudius, and it’s always interesting to see the personal life that made such minds tick. Newcomer William Nunez must agree because he’s written and will direct The Laureate based on Graves’s life and his romance of Nancy Nicholson and Laura Riding (both recognized artists in their own rights). According to The Playlist, Orlando Bloom will be offering his authentic accent to the role, Imogen Poots will be playing Riding, and Kerry Condon (from The Last Station) will be playing Nicholson. I honestly know little about Graves’s life, but a hot, sexy, poetic love triangle? That, I think, we all know a lot about.

Ahh, Orlando Bloom, you once adorned every middle school girl’s bedroom door, and now father time has caught up with you.
At the ripe old age of 34, with his best years of pirating and fellowship behind him, it seems reasonable that the elderly Bloom should seek out a nice quiet place in the country, raise his family, and write poetry the rest of his days… or at least play someone who did that. Easier said than done.
“Marriage, like money, is still with us; and, like money, progressively devalued.”
This famous quote by English poet Robert Graves is particularly ironic in the context of the famous scandal that ended his marriage in 1929. Now Ol’ Bloomy seeks to portray the “I, Claudius” writer during this period of emotional turmoil and artistic success in a new film titled “The Laureate.”
According to Hollywood Wiretap, Legolas has been cast alongside hot young U.

Orlando Bloom continues his return to the screen after being absent for most of the past four years. He shot a role in Paul Ws Anderson's The Three Musketeers and will reprise his career-originating role of Legolas in The Hobbit. But before he gets back into breeches and latex ear appliances he'll play poet Robert Graves in The Laureate. The film is written and directed by William Nunez, and follows the life of Robert Graves, his wife Nancy Nicholson (Kerry Condon) and poet Laura Riding (Imogen Poots), specifically with respect to the open love triangle between them as they lived in London and Cairo. [Screen Daily [1]] After the break, Jonas Åkerlund makes Small Apartments and one more joins John Hillcoat's The Wettest County in the World. Jonas Åkerlund (Spun, The Horsemen) is moving into comedy -- well, intentional comedy -- with Matt Lucas (Little Britain, Alice in Wonderland) as his mouthpiece.

[Updating this post with today's news that Phase 4 films have pre-bought all Us rights to the film. It aint made yet but we know who'll be releasing it when it is.]
I declare my bias on this one right up front: Xyz Films - the La company that I'm a partner in - are serving as executive producers on this one and the lead producer - Hawaii International Film Festival programmer Anderson Le - is a long time friend. Do with that what you will. What I do with it is toss it all aside as irrelevant because with the talent attached to this script - which I've read and is fantastic - this is going to be a fantastic film by any measure.
Mma star Cung Le - recently seen on screen fighting Donnie Yen in Hong Kong action drama Bodyguards and Assassins - will take the lead in Journey From The Fall director Ham Tran's English language martial arts film Breaking Point. Producing are Xyz Films, Media 8 Entertainment and Vietnam-based Chanh Phuong Films. For those unfamiliar with the name,...
