Ten years ago this week, “Weird Al” Yankovic’s Mandatory Fun became the first comedy album to top the Billboard album chart since Allan Sherman’s My Son, the Nut in August 1963. The years following that triumph have been a busy time for Yankovic, marked by multiple world tours, a stint as the bandleader on Comedy Bang! Bang!, the recording of “The Hamilton Polka,” and the release of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a brilliantly twisted biopic starring Daniel Radcliffe that racked up many awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.

In our ever-more-fragmented media landscape, we're seeing fewer and fewer recognizable brand-name stars for *everybody*, but we're probably getting more and more recognizable brand-name stars for *somebody*. And that means that people who, to certain individuals, are clearly stars of a certain stature are virtual unknowns to great masses, possibly to majorities. And that's even the case with culture-watching professionals. Take Britt Robertson. I didn't see many "Tomorrowland" reviews calling her an unknown or even a newcomer, thankfully, but plenty of critics are still bending over backwards to reference credits like "Dan in Real Life" or "Delivery Man" as if audiences may struggle to place her. I hear her name and I think of an actress who has been the unquestioned star of at least two network TV shows and one of the stars (if only for a for a season) of a bona fide hit. In the sphere of what I do,...

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from the series premiere of FX's limited series Fargo.] With original Fargo screenwriter-directors Joel and Ethan Coen on board as executive producers, FX set the stage for its take on the 1996 Oscar-nominated feature with the first of its 10-episode series. From showrunner Noah Hawley (My Generation), FX's Fargo is set in a world that begins the day after the events in the film. The new series draws similarities from the original, which earned the Coen brothers an Academy Award for their screenplay, while still standing out with its own punches.

With FX's series “Fargo,” premiering Tuesday, showrunner Noah Hawley had the daunting task of adapting the beloved 1996 Coen Brothers film for the small screen. While the series employs different characters and a different storyline than the film, the frigid, folksy shadow of the original still sets high expectations. TheWrap spoke to Hawley about the search for a leading lady that wouldn't be overshadowed by Francis McDormand's iconic Marge and creating a new kind of bad guy with Billy Bob Thornton's Lorne Malvo. Calgary - As pages go, Warren Littlefield is slightly overqualified. The Brandon Tartikoff protege spent 20 years as an executive at NBC, cultivating in a '90s run as NBC Entertainment President a gig that was, at times, rather wildly successful. On this March day in Calgary, though, Littlefield is serving as a tour-guide for a group of reporters visiting the set of his FX limited series "Fargo." Just a 10 minute drive from downtown Calgary, we've left the urban center behind and we're at a facility that is doubling for the Bemidji Police Department, as well as several other rural Minnesota hubs. Depending on which way you wander, there are interrogation rooms, a main squad area, portions of a local hospital and a middle school cafeteria, in which we're conducting most of our interviews next to a fine piece of juvenile art that has nothing to do with "Fargo," but I'm including it anyway.

Phew! We are so relieved that none of the contestants for this week’s Hotness was offed in last night’s Pretty Little Liars Halloween special. That would have made all this a little macabre. (Sorry, Garrett, Rip.) On the other hand, it is definitely a crime to have Caleb in a mask for most of an episode. Aaanyway, if you still haven’t decided whether Tyler Blackburn, Ian Harding, Keegan Allen or Julian Morris deserves your vote, we have one more way to help you — cute/hilarious/seductive videos of them not being Caleb, Ezra, Toby or Wren.
First up, we dare you not to fall in love with Tyler after seeing him sing in the video above. This was for last year’s Web series Wendy, an updated Peter Pan story in which he played indie rocker Peter. How is it fair that he looks like that, is...

In 2003, Misery actress Kathy Bates brought the Coen brothers classic Fargo to the small screen. She directed a pilot starring Edie Falco as pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson (originally played by Frances McDormand) who tries to wrangle two bumbling criminals (played by Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare in the original film). The pilot never took off, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Coens are giving television another shot and bringing their classic caper to FX. Fargo will debut on the cable channel as an hour-long pilot, with the sibling directors executive producing. Noah Hawley (Bones, My Generation) will write the episode and coproduce, but THR doesn't reveal more details than that. MGM has been pushing their back catalog toward...

First rumored in March, then greeted with a skeptical yet charmingly Minnesotan "Oh, yah?" before being forgotten, a TV adaptation of the Coen Brothers' Fargo is now officially in the works at FX, with the Coens on board as executive producers. There isn't much new information about the project beyond that, save for the fact that the man anointed writer and executive producer of this dubious spinoff is Noah Hawley, whose previous forays into television include the failed and quickly forgotten The Unusuals and My Generation over at ABC—two shows that don't particularly attest to his ability ...

The Fargo TV project you may have heard rumors about early this year are coming to fruition says Deadline and Joel and Ethan Coen are on board as executive producers. It will be an hour long project based on the Coen brothers’ 1996 comedic crime drama, which sits in my top 5 of all-time if anyone wondering. The Coens will serve as executive producers on the project as we said and it will be written by The Unusuals and My Generation creator Noah Hawley.
With Fargo and Psycho getting the TV treatment soon it leads one to think of other great movies that could translate well to the small screen. Vampire Diaries pretty much took the thunder away from any potential Twilight series so that’s nice. Two shows that come to mind would be Source Code or The Matrix, I’d watch those. What about you guys, what movies would you...

"Fargo" could be coming to TV. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joel and Ethan Coen are developing a TV version of their acclaimed 1996 film.
This isn't the first time "Fargo" came close to a TV series. In 1997, Edie Falco starred in a pilot that never made it passed that phase. The Coen Brothers weren't involved.
News of a new "Fargo" series first broke in March 2012. Written by "My Generation's" Noah Hawley, the new "Fargo" one-hour drama has a script order at FX. The Coens and Warren Littlefield are attached to executive produce.
Frances McDormand starred in the Oscar-nominated film as a pregnant police chief opposite William H. Macy, who played a car salesman who hires two criminals, Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare, to kidnap his wife.

It seems in their attempt to get themselves out of bankruptcy, and use their back catalog for everything its worth, MGM holds nothing sacred. The studio has struck a deal with FX to create a dramatic series based on the Coen Brothers’ seminal 1996 film “Fargo.” Reports of a television adaptation first began in March, and while we didn’t think any of the original cast or crew would be involved, Deadline is reporting that the Academy Award-winning sibling duo will executive produce. That’s not to say they’ll be directly involved -- we’d imagine that the positions are largely ceremonial anyway -- as Noah Hawley (“The Unusuals," “My Generation”) will be writing the project. Exact details aren't known just yet, but it's probably not a stretch to assume that the show will focus on a small town sheriff in North Dakota whose cases take her in over her head.

Joel and Ethan Coen to bring Oscar-winning film to the small screen, continuing the story of police chief Marge Gunderson
The Coen brothers are to bring their Oscar-winning film Fargo to the small screen, Deadline reports.
Joel and Ethan Coen will oversee the TV series, which will be in the one-hour episode format, as executive producers. The film was also nominated in a further five categories.
The Fargo TV show is part of studio MGM's plan to adapt properties it owns for the small screen through MGM Television. A previous attempt to produce a Fargo show took place in 2003, with The Sopranos' Edie Falco starring as Gunderson. It never got beyond a Kathy Bates-directed pilot,...

Do we want to see a FX series inspired by the Coen Brothers' Oscar-winning modern classic "Fargo"? You're darned tootin'!
Especially because Joel Coen and Ethan Coen are involved in developing the show as executive producers alongside writer and executive producer Noah Hawley, according to Deadline. Hawley, a former co-producer on "Bones," also created and oversaw short-lived ABC series "The Unusuals" and "My Generation."
"Fargo" almost made it to TV once before when Kathy Bates directed a 1997 pilot starring a pre-"Sopranos" Edie Falco in Frances McDormand's Oscar-winning role of Marge Gunderson. The Coens were not involved in that version and it was not picked up to series. The pilot eventually aired on the Trio cable network in 2003.
Details of what to expect from the FX version were not announced, but it's hard to imagine Marge not being a central character. And given FX's track record of attracting major...
