Lifetime’s Salt-n-Pepa biopic has found its leads. G.G. Townson and Laila Odom will be playing Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, respectively.
Additionally, the upcoming limited series will also star Cleveland Berto as music producer Hurby Azor, Jermel Howard as rapper Treach and Monique Paul as DJ Spinderella.
This still-untitled authorized biopic follows the acclaimed musicians as they first fall into the world of hip-hop after recording a song for a friend. It will track their impact on the music world, becoming one of the first all-female rap groups, changing the look and sound of the genre as they were unafraid to talk and sing about sex and their thoughts on men, and then going on to reach platinum status as recording artists and win a Grammy. The project also endeavors to uncover the women behind the music, revealing how their very different personalities fueled their creativity...

Lifetime has given the greenlight to two music-related projects, a miniseries on rap group Salt-n-Pepa and a biopic on gospel group the Clark Sisters. Queen Latifah is an executive producer for both projects via her Flavor Unit production company, with Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott among the executive producers for the Clark Sisters film. Lifetime has ordered two music-themed miniseries, one revolving around female rap stars Salt-n-Pepa, the other focused on the Clark Sisters gospel group. Both projects are produced by Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit banner.

Marco Mehlitz has joined Fox International Productions Germany as Head of Development and Production and will report directly to Sanford Panitch, President of Fox International Productions (Fip) in Los Angeles. Mehlitz’s new role will see him working closely with Managing Director, Fox Germany, Vincent de La Tour, and Senior Product Manager Local Productions and Acquisitions, Germar Tetzlaff in the development and production of German language movies. “Marco’s experience in both local German production and international coproduction will be a great asset for us”, said Panitch. Cologne, Germany -- German star Matthias Schweighofer ("Friendship!" "Rabbit Without Ears") has begun shooting on his directorial debut -- the romantic comedy "What A Man" in which Schweighofer stars alongside Sibel Kekilli ("Head-On," "When We Leave").
Fox International Pictures in Germany is co-producing "What A Man" with Pantaleon Films, the shingle Schweighofer runs with partner Marco Beckmann.
"What A Man" will be Schweighofer's first major project with Fox. The rising star has become a go-talent for the major studio outlets in Germany. Sony released "Friendship!," Warner "Rabbit Without Ears" and Schweighofer-starrer "The Red Baron." Paramount has picked up his next project, the comedy "Russian Disco," which Oliver Schmitz ("Life Above All") is directing.
Schweighofer has also dabbled in international productions, with supporting roles in Bryan Singer's "Valkyrie" and Kenneth Branagh's "Thor."
