***1/2 for Opening Season Show

Warning: Spoilers
Well-paced and interesting best define this opening show. Rather than concentrating on the police themselves, the show devotes itself to the various situations that the officers have to confront on a given day.

Regina King again proves that she is one tough cookie. The stories involve including the cleaning lady found murdered in an air-conditioner duct, a bank robbery gone terribly awry and a gangland execution of two men who had been exonerated by a jury the week before. They started with the wrong family. This was the most obvious of the depicted situations.

Action-packed, we're apparently in for many other good episodes this season and beyond.

Southland hits its stride
Mr-Fusion23 January 2017
A self-assured opener, 'Let It Snow' hits the ground running with a gangland execution, workplace rape/murder and a gripping bank robbery. The show's focus it tightened on three sets of partners, and while this has always been an ensemble show, the austerity measures really are to the show's benefit. It also establishes Cooper's paradox: continuing his painkiller addiction is self-destructive, but seeking medical help risks both his job and his entire sense of identity. He's not the nicest guy, but he's clearly defined as a character.

Between that, the friction in Lydia's new partnership (again) and the insane bank shootout, it's a great episode.
