The monologue at the final episode, it's a heartbroken...
fbsj-1723026 January 2023
I don't understand the bad ratings about this show... Me as a beazilian citizen could see an beaultiful representation at the parents who lost their childs on this tragedy is a worth to watch it..

I remember the huge repercussion of this terrible tragedy, but i had no ideia how hard was to see their parents being prosecut by brazilian law simply to tell the truth.

The monologue at final episode of one of those father broke my heart, and gave tears...

If you thik that after 10 years, the guilty ones for this tragedy spend few months at the jail, it's something that will shock you. Very sa...

Great acting
bruno-costa28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a show about one of the biggest tragedies of Brazilian history.

The production is on par with regular Netflix European productions. The writing and the pace are fine.

The acting is amazing. The actors that are playing the parents did a great job, making the pain tangible, dense, real. Gabriela Munhoz, the Fire Department Capitain, was impressive. Leonardo Medeiros, the father from Sao Paulo, is mesmerizing. Debora Lamm and Thelmo Fernandes, both cariocas (from Rio) nailed the gaucho accent, wich could easily became exaggerated. And it was delightful to watch Bianca Byington being perfect as an upper class countryside gaucha.

There are scenes that broke the viewers' hearts.

A little spoiler as an example: the fire happened oh the ceilings, most of the people died because of the toxic smoke, not because of the fire... so, when the firemen reach the the bathroom, after the fire is controlled, they saw the floor covered by bodies, and all the cellphones were ringing... the families were trying to reach theirs kids.

9/10

Now, a remark is needed: no one ended up in jail... the trial was annulled because rookie mistakes by the judge and the prossecutors. This whole part end up off the show, probably because would be a torture to watch. To end without an end. About that, we can only imagine how painful this lack of response was for the families...

WHAT? Exactly like Colective tragedy
sabinrusuionut5 February 2023
This is SO CRAZY. In 2015, in Romania, a club named Colectiv had a very big fire in which died almost 100 people. One of the biggest tragedies in Romania. And the crazy part is, everything was exactly as in this documentary. Some rock band sing, one of the members shows the singer that the ceiling is on fire, then the masacre started. And in 2020, director Alexander Nanau released a documentary called Collectiv, which was Oscar nominee at 2 categories. You can search on the internet Collectiv tragedy Romania. I think you will still find the original footages somehow. That's so crazy!! It's like they copied the exact case, but the thing is... both of them are real.

It broke my heart
danalaura-cazacu27 January 2023
It broke my heart because the same thing happened in Bucharest, just two years later. Same outdoor pyrotechnics, same foam ceilling, only one exit, and an impossible long wait for justice in a country that is so devoid of it. I don't think everything has to be perfect to be deeply moved by a tragedy that shouldn't have happened. To me the acting was great, I felt each of one of those parents pain, even though I am sure that the pain the real parents endured is incomprehensible. A tragedy like this goes well beyond the victims and their family and friends, it ripples through society, even if society is moving so painfully slowly.

Is it one the best series that I have seen? Certainly not! But it moved me deeply and that is something. After all, art should tell the truth.

Wasn't expecting to be so good. Binged on it and finish it in one afternoon.

For me this is hands down that best Brazilian series ever made. The Kiss Night Club fire was the second largest tragedy of this kind to ever take place in Brazil with 242 death and over 600 seriously wounded. Today, at its 10th anniversary, Brazilian families and society are still waiting for a fair trial.

Speaking about this production, quite frankly I wasn't expecting much, but boy oh boy the writing, production, dialogs, and actors put on an amazing and touching performances that will make you feel like you were there.

Things move very slowly in the Brazilian justice system, and to be honest I was already forgetting about the whole thing. Anyway, I truly recommend everyone watch this. You will not regret it.

Justice for the victims.
hannahblue171927 January 2023
This is an excellent series, based on a book about the Kiss Nightclub tragedy in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, in 2013.

245 young people, most College students from the many Universities in town, lost their lives in a fire during the party inside the nightclub. Ten years after the tragedy, no one was arrested. Four people were prosecuted but the trial was annulled.

Most of the young people were 18-30 years old. The series was endorsed by the parents of the victims, who still fight for justice to this day.

The cinematography is beautiful, the terror and senseless deaths are well portrayed. I highly recommend this series.

A compelling, complex, well acted drama that takes on some of the most important issues of our time
azanti002931 January 2023
Back in 2013 even here in the UK, news reached our far flung shores of the terrible tragic events of the Kiss Night Club fire. For those not familiar with the story - In Santa Maria Brazil students from six universities organised a joint night at the Kiss Nightclub during which two local bands would perform. During the performance of the second, careless use of a handheld firework set inflammable insulation in the ceiling alight. The band failed to properly alert the problem to the audience until it was too late and fire quickly spread, releasing poisonous gas into the air..

The club was packed way beyond its safety capacity at the time, had a poor layout for swift evacuation, no emergency exit, inadequate fire fighting equipment, no evacuation plan prepared, poor lighting and inadequate signage for the only exit. In the panic to escape a huge number of students were crushed but over 180 fled into the bathrooms from which there was no escape, dozens more had severe burns and ultimately 242 people were killed in the tragedy.

Now the story of these awful events, based on the book by Daniela Arbex is brought to life in a five part drama series, available on Netflix and it has to be said, in my case is responsible for me going to bed at an extremely late hour. It's not an easy watch, but watch it we should, for this is a very potent and important message here.

I put the first episode of this drama on last night at 2am and found myself watching all five episodes of the drama, unable to pull myself away from it, resisting a search on google fo discover the outcome. Now, I am not just a casual viewer on Netflix, but a playwright who has tackled similar issues of social injustice in my own country and worked on a number of dramas in this genre. I found the critical reviews on here highly suspicious and the negative comments to be largely without foundation. This is an extremely well written, compelling story about an issue which underlines many things that is wrong with the world today - Those who have very little in society are poorly served by those they elect to lead them. Over the five episodes we discover an entire litany of corruption and poor regulations which allowed the circumstances where such a tragedy could occur. This story is very reminiscent of other such painful disasters, such as the Hillsborough football disaster and the more recent fire at the Colectiv Nightclub in Bucharest. Which itself, proves lessons still have not been learned. This is an important message, and this show understands that. It's core message to its critics - Are the lives of our children worth nothing to you?

After showing us the story of fire itself (which must be extremely difficult viewing for anyone who was there, or knew someone who was there) the shift changes to the investigation to find those responsible before focusing on the key parents who campaigned relentlessly to have those responsible at a higher level brought to justice. The show gives an episode to the Police investigation and sheds light on the complete failure of health and safety at every level. Someone else commented the show doesn't highlight these other issues enough, but that is NOT true. The series does exactly that, which is the entire reason the parents continued their quest in bringing people to justice. To highlight these issues. There is also nothing wrong with the music, tone of the piece, nor its presentation. This is a first rate professional production in every sense and anyone calling it amateurish should hang their heads in shame for doing so.

As the parents demand answers, their own DA suffers from a lack of complete inertia, even trying to prosecute them in return for being critical. This is a vital part of the story and one of which I was completely unaware.

Several of the cast do an outstanding job of portraying the anguished parents as well as the frustrated Police investigators, who identify 28 people responsible for the chain of events, but the DA only appear willing to go after the four obvious scape goats. The band members and the night club owner and manager. Of the cast, special mention must be made of Thelmo Ferdandes and Paulo Gorgulho who play Pedro Leal and Ricardo Martins, fathers of two of the dead children, who lead the campaign of justice. Leonardo Medeiros gives an extremely layered performance as Geraldo Alberto Ramos Fontes, another bereaved parent, whose very much an outsider but has a pragmatic legal approach to the case, proving many facts early on which would take the DA years to admit. Special mention must go to the young Brazilian cast, many of them unknowns, playing victim and survivor alike. The give their characters an international resonance whose loss will be felt by any parent. It is extremely important in a drama such as this, that we feel we know those who are victims in such events, so that we, the viewer have some sense of their loss as well. This was a group of people out to have a good time, in the prime of their lives. They depended on the regulatory bodies of their state to protect them in such a venue and the state failed them. This drama sheds light on an important flashpoint in history, which is not just only relevant to Brazil, but to the entire world. Trust me when I say, there's other clubs out there, where this is waiting to happen. To those parents who fought for so long, and still fight for justice of their children. You have not done so in vain. I have heard you and I will do my best to make sure the world hears you too.

Essential viewing.

Bad series. Too forced.
jrjunior-4524526 January 2023
It was a hyped series for me. Probably the biggest tragedy i lived as a brazilian and it lacked and still lacks a well directed and well writen movie/series.

Of course it's not east to tell a story like this, but the book it's probably 9/10 in terms of rating and this one, well, i'll give it 5.5/10 at best.

Poorly directed, scenes too forced, music annoying, acting not as great as i would expect. Well, it's a mess.

It's not like most Netflix series/production that we have high expectation and they deliver. This one here, at least for me, was highly expected, but didn't deliver.

We are talking only about the cinematography experience, not about the tragedy itself.

For memory, for justice, it shall not happen again
ASmithJackson2 February 2023
I noticed reviews from Brazalian people who watched this tragedy unfold in real time - for some of those people I understand the series will have a different effect and may not live up to the reality of the tragedy.

I wanted to provide a review from someone who didn't even have this tragic event on their radar until this series. People forget that not everyone knows about these tragedies and for a huge platform like netflix to release something like this, they are opening the eyes of so many people.

All of the actors performed very well. The scenes of the incident and everything that unfolded, for me were very well done and traumatic. I was screaming at my TV with the reveal of each detail of corruption following the investigation.

My only criticism of the series would be that some of the music is a little repetitive / overdone at times - not that this changed the fact that I was sobbing.

Just watch! 10/10.

In 5 episodes, the fictional limited series reveals the untold story of what is considered one of the greatest tragedies in Brazil - from the police investigation of the circumstances that led to the fire to the beginning of the tireless fight for justice waged by the families of the victims, which still continues 10 years later!

A missed opportunity to tell the tragedy of the nighclub Kiss.
diogogarcia-4451627 January 2023
"The Endless Night" was supposed to be a series that tells the story of the tragic incident at the Kiss nightclub in 2013, where 242 young people lost their lives. Unfortunately, it ends up being a big disappointment.

The series fails to deliver. The cinematography is bland, the production lacks attention to detail, the editing is choppy, and the soundtrack is just plain bad. All of these elements combined make it hard to connect with the story and the characters.

As a viewer, I was expecting to be moved by the story, but instead, I found myself feeling disconnected and bored. It's a shame to see such an important story being told in the typical, formulaic style of Brazilian telenovelas.

Sword and horse!
Guanche4813 January 2024
In many series or films based on real stories about great tragedies, many times they forget the situation of their families. In this case, the families are the focus of this dramatic story, which I found very interesting. The fight of the families for justice reaches the soul and provokes in an exciting way.

The way to tell this tragedy is very well done and respects family members by not turning the fire into entertainment. Simply fascinating from start to finish.

This series is of high quality, made with care and hard work. A journalistic study of hours and a good detailed investigation about the rescue work, among other things.

I also applaud the choice of the actors, all wonderful, the atmosphere of the Brazilian houses, of middle class families and even the clothing! Add more realism.

In short, it is a great dramatic series, told realistically, respecting the family members and at the same time full of suspense and tension until the very end.

A waste of opportunity. An amateur work.
oasisleblon26 January 2023
Great story, some good acting, but the editing and direction are terrible. The music edition is a joke, exaggerated or repetitive.

The original story tells a lot about our country and the unbelievable capacity of brazilian judicial system to let down the parents of the victims. The book from Daniela is also great; but unfortunately, this series was a big waste of opportunity to bring more attention and light to the case.

The lack of talent from the writers, directors and so on, in this case, won't be able to take the history to the world as it deserves it. It's a slow pace, bad written and poorly executed from the movie industry perspective. And in our time, with a beautiful story presented by the Indian cinema, from a fire in a movie theater, a hundred times better made to Netflix, the brazilian crew throw away, again, an opportunity to help the original cause.

It looks like an university project, nor a professional one.

Justice for the parents of the victims, jail to the criminals (even if they deserve the life sentence and it's inconstitucional in Brazil)...a pity this amateur series with such a seriou background behind it.

Interesting story hampered by poor acting and terrible writing
shanayneigh30 August 2023
The subject matter is certainly interesting, but the execution of the storytelling leaves much to be desired.

First of all the acting which is on a telenovela level. Some are overacting so ferociously that it at times becomes a distraction.

The staging of the fire itself is so poor it boggles the mind. There is zero sense of geography.

But the real culprit is the writing, especially in the later episodes which deal with the legal process. We rush from one court decision to another without being shown anything of the actual process which might explain how the courts reach their decisions.

One thing I found peculiar. In Sweden we had a similar nightclub fire in the 90's and in the US there was The Station nightclub fire in the early 2000's. In both cases some survivors had the typical facial burns where all recognizable features are vanished. Perhaps none of these cases existed in this Brazil fire (although I find that quite doubtful) because every survivor in this show wake up from comas looking like they're in a L'Oreal commercial.
