Best show on television, hands down.
JNFattorini18 February 2011
I'll keep this short and sweet: this episode is another example in a long series of episodes that clearly show how strong this show is. There is not another show in the history of television that has done what Community has - successfully construct a cast so well-rounded and deeply flawed that their antics make sense in any and every situation imaginable. From "Modern Warfare" to "Basic Rocket Science" to "Epidemiology" and all the way down to "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons," this cast and these writers is perfectly capable of any form of successful television. Pierce's manipulative manner comes to a head in this episode and as the episode unfolds in a very The Office-like form, the cast is given the opportunity to give intermittent commentary. It works flawlessly, and I honestly am having such a hard time judging this season that it's discomforting to think TV Guide considers the show likely to be canceled.

A fantastic episode. But as usual, even the worst episodes of Community stand head-and-shoulders above the best episodes of almost every other show on television.

What if

This episode was just perfect for me! Its underrated I've noticed on here but its shot in mockementary form and the whole series I've been asking one question: What if community was made like the office? Would it be a whole other animal and way better than the office?

The answer to this is community is everything. For e.g. stop motion, mockumentary, to what we have. It would succeed on all levels just leave the laugh track out.

However, I had so much fun seeing this episode perform with the one on ones on the side and all that comes with mockementaries. It works perfectly and makes it feel natural at times even for just randomly shooting the format. I think this would be an unpopular opinion because no one would probably like to imagine this show like the office but for me it was all I've been thinking about since it's my favorite comedy but this show is too creative and breaks all the rules to be confined to one format. I love THIS. Doing random episodes like.. The Christmas special stop motion Rocket science Epidemiology Advanced dungeons and dragons S2 Modern warfare physical education and I'm sure a couple of more of season one.

Each episode is like an adventure and never feels like a common comedy. This is the best comedy I've ever seen in my life!!!! Period. The office was so special to me because I binged it two years ago having just started it.

this episode does have a plot involving pierce giving gifts to everyone but when does the creative aspect talked about in the review ever happen? I cant believe I just found this season and I feel I'm doing a disservice reviewing these episodes as you can tell fans that have seen them x kany times know them so well but this is raw viewing for the first time. A series made long ago and accepted as the best show ever right now! This episode is an example and theres only on other review for it! It can be what's prevented me from committing to this show. No one ever said in a review that I read how extremely creative and pop culture it is and the homage it pays to TV or movies. It's just amazing and needs to be seen.

Pierce and friends

Warning: Spoilers
A multidimensional episode where Pierce exercises his persuasive skills over the group, and we get further insight into what Pierce is intending to achieve to stranglehold his influence.

I really thought Jeff's Dad would appear (he does in season 4, played by James Brolin) but not to be.

Donald Glover

Donald Glover steals the show - every time! His performance just astounds me and it's clear that his talent is way underutilized. Some of the material is bleh but it's always wonderful to see guest stars like LeVar Burton or in another episode (asian Population Studies) Malcolm-Jamal Warner grace the screen with their presence sans hubris. I don't enjoy the reach into equating diversity with tolerance of homosexuality, ever. But actual comedy and genius writing/performances create enjoyable, relatable moments and keep you returning for more.
